Anyone with kids NOT do fireworks tonight?

OP posts:
AppleKatie · 05/11/2020 22:54

We didn’t because the garden isn’t big enough not because I have a moral objection (which I don’t)

kazza446 · 05/11/2020 22:55

Yep! We are all in isolation. I tested positive yesterday . We’ve been locked down since Monday. Add a vomiting dog into the mix too, life has been a barrel of laughs!

mocktail · 05/11/2020 22:55

We didn't but we had sparklers and could see lots of fireworks nearby. Why?

AlexaShutUp · 05/11/2020 22:58

We didn't. Personally, I don't think they should be sold to the general public. I appreciate that there weren't any public displays this year, but surely people could go without for a year!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 22:59

We had a BBQ and smores, and watched everyone elses.

My DCs are senistive to noise so they are better at a distance with fireworks.

36degrees · 05/11/2020 22:59

Never done them, not about to start now. Waste of money when you can look in the sky and see everyone else's. We do sometimes go to organised displays but not year in year out.

TigerBrite · 05/11/2020 22:59

Why would you? It’s dangerous and upsets other people. I don’t let my DC play with fire and I’m certainly not going to encourage them to play with gunpowder!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 23:01

It's the second year in a row without public displays around here. Low lying parks were submerged last year, and higher ground beyond saturated and not fit for hosting events.

Everything else has been fucked up this year, so no wonder people were keen to do fireworks legally in their own gardens.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 05/11/2020 23:04

We didn't (garden too small - as new year 2014 nearly taught me spectacularly) - sadly we didn't even manage sparklers though. Stupid self-isolation....

JustCallMeGriffin · 05/11/2020 23:04

Nope.

I'm against them on a moral level, people literally setting money on fire for entertainment that traumatises people and animals.

On a practical level it's fucking insane that anyone can buy explosives to let off wherever they fancy.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/11/2020 23:05

I didn't. I never have. They are expensive and my garden is way too small. I'd be better off setting fire to money. At least it would momentarily keep us warm. Grin

Titsywoo · 05/11/2020 23:05

We didn't. Garden too small and lots of dogs on our road.

CeramicGuineaPig · 05/11/2020 23:06

We did do it. £10. A bit of fizz bang, hardly traumatising anyone or setting money on fire.

RandomUsernameHere · 05/11/2020 23:07

We didn't
There are no displays here and didn't even occur to me to do our own
The DC had a sports club after school so no time anyway!

Hawkmoth · 05/11/2020 23:07

No. They are autistic and hate it. Did manage a small fire and one DC toasted marshmallows with me.

Did enjoy other people's fireworks though.

NoSquirrels · 05/11/2020 23:08

We didn’t. Not a fan of exploding my money in the sky. Dog is terrified so no way wedding back garden thing.

I do love a sparkler, but apparently not enough to be arsed to buy any or organise a night around it.

Poor DC Grin

5zeds · 05/11/2020 23:10

We didn’t. No biggy. Burning a guy to celebrate always makes me feel a bit queasy.

Paddingtonthebear · 05/11/2020 23:10

No couldn’t find any sparklers anywhere. Had a great view of others fireworks from bedroom window though

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/11/2020 23:10

We didn't. Watched several really good displays by neighbouring houses. We're doing ours, with sparklers, tomorrow.

lyralalala · 05/11/2020 23:12

We didn't do them in our garden, but we sat in the front garden to watch a neighbour do theirs. Their garden is big enough to light them safely so they tend to give everyone a heads up each year and we all watch.

RHOBHfan · 05/11/2020 23:12

We didn’t. I think they’re completely antisocial and would have no problem with a ban.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 05/11/2020 23:12

We didn't but tbh the view from our living room was a bit like sydney opera house on NYE. DH took the DSs out to see everyone else's.

JustCallMeGriffin · 05/11/2020 23:13

@CeramicGuineaPig

We did do it. £10. A bit of fizz bang, hardly traumatising anyone or setting money on fire.
Fizz bang is enough to set off PTSD trauma in people and you literally set fire to £10 for entertainment.

Talk about empathy bypass!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 05/11/2020 23:13

Neither of my kids are into them; the house two doors down did a lot and I watched them in the garden by myself!

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 05/11/2020 23:15

Me. We had a movie night and will do sparklers at the weekend.
