Are you doing fireworks for the kids this year? If so, where did you buy them from?

No. Fireworks at home are bloody dangerous and incredibly cruel to pets

This.
Toilenstripes · 02/11/2020 19:02

Definitely not! Children don’t need fireworks and they terrify animals. They’re nasty and dangerous.

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/11/2020 19:03

No

IOwnDogsNotFrogs · 02/11/2020 19:08

They’re an absolute pain in the arse, should be silent ones only on sale.
So many nights of them already, my dog is a nervous wreck every evening since they started and I imagine more people will have them at home as there’s no displays to go to so we’re in for weeks of them.

Carrotcakey · 02/11/2020 19:09

They’re not really for the kids though, are they? It makes grown ups feel really cool, playing with fire and upsetting the local pets( & everyone else depending on your choice of timing).

Fireworks should be for organised displays only. Next year take your kids to one of those.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/11/2020 19:11

We've got sparklers and some indoor fireworks. We'll have a fire in our firepit if it is dry enough and make smores.

joanwinifred · 02/11/2020 19:13

No. They're dangerous and stressful to pets, amongst others.

I don't get why they don't just do light shows now, which would give the effect but not the sounds?

Meowza74 · 02/11/2020 19:13

I wish they were banned.

Inextremis · 02/11/2020 19:13

No, they're illegal for private use in this country (Ireland). Somehow we cope, and our animals are happy :)

nosswith · 02/11/2020 19:14

Please do not. Out of consideration for anyone with PTSD and animals.

Vicliz24 · 02/11/2020 19:14

I hope that most won't . My dogs are absolutely petrified of them

TitianaTitsling · 02/11/2020 19:17

Yep a another to say still have no idea whe the general public ca buy these. Hoping that the usual shitey Scottish weather continues and fizzles them out. Am sure the ED could do without the usual presentations this year

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2020 19:18

No. We are having a fire in the fire bowl and some sparklers.

NorbertMeubles · 02/11/2020 19:19

No. What a bloody waste of time and money.

vinoandbrie · 02/11/2020 19:22

No!

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/11/2020 19:22

Absolutely not. Nasty, noisy, dangerous things. Should be banned

Pinkflipflop85 · 02/11/2020 19:23

No way. Most people don't have gardens big enough and it's bloody dangerous

Hiccupiscal · 02/11/2020 19:24

...we have considered having fireworks, but are going against it now, we have 3 dogs and chickens and just not fair on them, or wildlife, or pets, as others say.

Apart from some of the suggestions mentioned, any ideas how to make the evening fun?... its just me, partner and son (6)

I'm going to Google some craft ideas, any ideas for nice people pleasing food ideas?

LubaLuca · 02/11/2020 19:25

No. Home displays are annoying to neighbours and animals, and are invariably crap.

NightOwl19 · 02/11/2020 19:26

No we have some sparklers and will do some hot dogs/burgers for dinner and toasted marshmallows and if their not to tired then maybe make some glitter firework pictures

happymummy12345 · 02/11/2020 19:28

We never have actual fireworks. We only ever have sparklers. Will be having them this year as usual.

Merrythought · 02/11/2020 19:32

My mum could have lost her eye last year due to home fireworks. It went off sideways, no warning and burned a hole in her eyebrow like a cigarette burn. Fireworks bought from The Range, so not off the back of a lorry either. Never again.

soundsystem · 02/11/2020 19:39

Just sparklers here as well, and baked potatoes and toasted marshmallows

Fairymaryprincess · 02/11/2020 19:47

Nope us neither, they should only sell silent ones the big bangers are really annoying for me and terrifying for one of my dogs, I dread having to let him out for a wee in the evening as he gets so upset and barks and barks and barks and it's hard to get him to come back in, I agree with a pp light shows would be much better sparklers, meat and potato pie with peas and some toffee apples is all we will be doing this year!
