Pip assessment report

Natkjdcjw · 02/11/2020 12:27

Hey, wondering if someone could help with any information possible.

I had my sons pip assessment 2 weeks ago, I thought it went really well. The assessor was absolutely lovely, thought she had listened to me. they have sent me a copy of the report today, on there she has stated that my son who has ADHD and terrible memory issues can literally do everything!!

And on every section it says that he attends mainstream college and passed his GCSE’s (only just because we found the right medication just in time!)
When the decision maker looks at this will she take in to consideration what I have said or just the assessor? As if they go by what she said we will definitely be refused.

Thank you

So sorry to hear it's been a no 😞 my son has his phone assessment next week and I'm not holding out much hope, we don't have huge amounts of evidence as we've always just got on with it! He cant even find his way to the corner shop without getting lost and he's 18 tomorrow. How on earth do you demonstrate that kind of thing on the phone though?! I don't think he's even going to be able to speak, getting through the call to ask for the application form was bad enough...

Natkjdcjw · 20/01/2021 17:37

Oh no, are you not his appointee? That way you could do all the talking for him.
I am my sons appointee which is so much easier as he wouldn’t manage any of this on his own.

I found the lady who did the assessment really nice, but on paper she stabbed me in the back big time, same with the lady I spoke to on Monday.

I have started gathering all my information for my tribunal letter, It goes to show that you can send as much evidence as you want and it doesn’t change the decision. But if you get turned down then just keep fighting.
Talk to all of his doctors and ask them to write a letter for you.

It’s an anxious wait but hopefully it will all be worth it.

Definitely dispute, it’s their first response to decline and only back down when it goes to tribunal.

It happened to me, the assessor was lovely, put me at ease and off guard, they do it on purpose. Because I said I was having a good few days and managed to put my own socks on that morning. The fact it was the first time in 6 months I was capable of doing it was irrelevant to them.

Natkjdcjw · 21/01/2021 20:58

Wow thats stupid, it’s sad how we have to fight! When evidence proves the problems!

How long did your tribunal take?
I’ve read lots of different things on line.
Is it also true that the case is looked at in your local area?
I live in a small town with 2 tribunal Courts. Different threads have stated that time frame depends on your local area.

I was in the same position a couple of months ago, lying (that's the only way I can describe it ) assessor, ignored paperwork/evidence, reduced pip award when conditions had clearly worsened. Mandatory Reconsideration upheld, yep definitely stressful because you start to wonder if the tribunal will think the same as the DWP, not to mention the work involved to submit to the tribunal.
I honestly thought I would have a nervous breakdown, it was definitely taking a toll on my mental health!
Luckily I found Kester Disability Rights, he sorted out all the tribunal paperwork and sent it off. It didn't even get to tribunal, the DWP awarded higher on both components. I can honestly say Kester is a life saver, or at the very least a sanity saver and I will be forever grateful to this organisation.

They have a list of questions they need to ask, and you are awarded points to each one on the basis of your answer. It has nothing to do with how nice the assessor is or how well you you get on. www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Personal-Independence-Payment-Test/What-is-the-PIP-test

Runningoutofusernamestochange · 31/08/2021 10:19

You need to be persistent! Evidence from every medical professional/teacher/employer etc you can think of. Be prepared to push through to the end of the appeal process if you need to.

CorrBlimeyGG · 31/08/2021 10:24

@Delphene That's great news, I'm sorry you had to go through it all, but you got there in the end. If you're able to, I'd make a donation to the charity that helped, that means they can help someone else in the same position in the future.

Really infuriating that charities have to pick up the pieces for government failure.

Following as wondering whether to apply again

I had a lifetime (lowest rate) DLA awarded in the mid 90's with confirmation from 3 doctors that the condition would never improve, but could worsen in future

Assessor in the home was lovely, but written report was full of lies and gave zeros for everything I appealed twice and sent all original paperwork (over 60 pages) but refused to review every time and now I have nothing

Was told it was because I have not kept going back to the docs. I was given specific advice and OTC meds to manage (over 20 years ago) and told no point going back unless things change!

Incredibly frustrating and upsetting - after the 3rd time I just lost the will and gave up

Good luck to everyone fighting

In my experience the assessors/HP's omit information given to them, ie if you tell them you can only walk 20 metres but have to stop due to severe pain and cannot do so again without rest they only log the 'you can walk 20 metres'. The decision makers then cherry pick the lies in the medical report to make it look like there isn't very much wrong with you, they will log all your evidence as received but then not refer to it in any way shape or form! When you point out all these lies and omissions in the mandatory reconsideration another decision maker ignores all your points to uphold the first debacle.
Again just my experience of the dwp and their tactics. I am quite sure they do this fully realizing that a percentage of people will not be able to cope with going to tribunal and will just give up. Please, please do not give up, get in touch with Kester to see if he can help.
Oh and always record the assessment, you are allowed to without telling them that you are, and 3 days after the assessment phone the DWP and ask for a copy of the assessors/HP's report, you will then be able to judge how just how truthful, or not, it is.

My yd had RA/JIA and her assessor wrote that she reached round behind her wheelchair and took some paperwork out of my bag. She didn't. I was in the room sat on a chair next to her sat in her wheelchair. I had the paperwork on my lap and I handed to my yd when she needed to have it.
She also said she has a shower every day which she doesn't.
There were some other things which meant they completely withdrew her PIP entitlement.
I went through the report with a fine tooth comb and wrote down everything that was wrong and wrote a long letter stating what was wrong. She was reawarded her PIP with the added lower rate mobility element.
Oh, and her assessor was also a lovely person, very smiley, who made her feel really at ease. I'd rather the sterner ones do the assessments tbh.
That said, it was the determiners take on her report, which was a work of fiction, which took her PIP away.

listentomydeclaration · 31/08/2021 12:42

I was shocked to get full PIP to be honest because I "don't look disabled" and I am able to work.

I think the fact it was online actually helped in my case. I also got reports from my doctor, hospital specialist etc and did my research into what they would be looking for and how they would be scoring.

I am not looking forward to the renewal stage though. I'm very sure that they will take one look at me and stop my PIP.

mumwon · 31/08/2021 13:09

one rule when filling out form - take advice get support to help filling out form from expert & answer EVERY question - & repeat facts if they answer next question send in copies of every relevant form that relates to issues & mention every support they have had & every assessment for everything & give names & addresses/contact details for anybody who has (ever helped in any form)
&take your time filling out form & add extra pages
If you are due to have form start doing log of difficulties & mention these as evidence of issues
They do read paperwork & if the evidence is strong enough they can pass your pip above a failed assessment & it will make your case stronger if you need to go to appeal

Marni83 · 31/08/2021 13:11

@Natkjdcjw

Wow that’s a really good idea! Thank you I will ask our local support service.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading! It is only the report I have atm. They haven’t sent me a decision but can’t see it being good.
She has literally used the fact he attends mainstream college and that he has a girlfriend against him. Every section states that he attends a college and passed his GCSE’s I wish she knew the work we all put in with him for him to get to where he is.

Thank you for your help I will spend this evening going through google

But the key is he did pass and lots of parents have to put in a LOT of energy for their children to pass And you say only because you found the right medication in time. So the medication “worked” ie manageable with correct medication
BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 01/09/2021 20:32

It seems totally random how they award it. I get higher rate mobility despite hardly writing anything on the form for mobility. However I scored 0 for washing and dressing despite being unable to bath alone due to the risk of drowning due to my epilepsy if I have a seizure in the bath 🤷‍♀️
