If you had to suggest just ONE healthy eating habit, what would it be?

Dreading this lockdown. I am in such a bad cycle of losing weight in summer, and putting it all back on through toast in the winter 😫

I'm very overweight and trying to change my bad eating habits.

What's working for me is no evening snacking except fruit. I used to have toast, cheese abd crackers etc every evening around 10pm.

Planning my meals really helps as it makes sure put weekly shop is only full of things that will be used for meals - and maybe a treat I can spread through the week if I can fit them into my calorie goals.

I don't plan boring meals so that I don't feel deprived. Before most meal plans I'll have a look through recipes to see what I fancy, what I can cook with the time I have and what can fit in my calorie allowances.

The weekly treat is helpful. So if I'm in a chocolate mood I will get a big bar of something I love where the quality is worth it, and make it last the whole week until the next shop.

Sorry, our not put!

bearlyactive · 01/11/2020 12:22

Hide fruit and veg. Frozen spinach is my lifesaver - I put it in tomato sauce and can't even taste it!

AiryFairyMum · 01/11/2020 12:23

I find 16:8 really good.

Ginkypig · 01/11/2020 12:27

Learn what proper portions look like and actually eat them and not what you think a portion should be.
Bulk out meals with salad or veg (not drenched in dressings or oils though) if the portions feel small especially in the beginning but really make a conscious effort to move towards proper portion control.

The truth is we probably all eat about double what we actually should be just from our meals alone.

Eat more veg! I aim for 5 veg (minimum) & 2 fruit every day and that has cut out a lot of crap and really improved my diet Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/11/2020 12:32

Take 1mg melatonin at night. The weight drops off, seems to suppress appetite.

Moltenpink · 01/11/2020 12:32

Clean your teeth after dinner.

EssentialHummus · 01/11/2020 12:33

16:8 / some other form of intermittent fasting.

NattyDiamondDoll · 01/11/2020 12:35

Definitely reduce sugar and carbs. I have a very sweet tooth which is hard, but a low carb, high protein and high fat diet reduces hunger and the weight falls off

Bargebill19 · 01/11/2020 12:36

A walk everyday.
Plenty of non alcoholic drinks.
Eat fruit and veg.
Everything else in moderation.

OhioOhioOhio · 01/11/2020 12:37

I can't imagine no refined sugar and being able to socialise at all.

jcurve · 01/11/2020 12:38

No snacks between meals and increase your fibre - veg, legumes, brown rice etc. It keeps you fuller for longer.

Chottie · 01/11/2020 12:41

Always leave the table feeling you could eat a little more......

rottiemum88 · 01/11/2020 12:43

Eat your main meals from a side plate. Half of every plate should be filled with salad or veg.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/11/2020 12:46

Well lions seem fit and can certainly run quickly so perhaps eat a zebra every few days?

Mischance · 01/11/2020 12:49

Eat less. Putting your food on a small plate can help.

When you are preparing a meal, make about one third less than you normally would. If you feel hungry before the next meal, then drink a glass of water.

pantsville · 01/11/2020 12:50

Eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re not.

It really is the secret of staying a healthy weight. The hard part is being honest with yourself about what feeling hungry actually is and/or learning to recognise it properly.

motherf88 · 01/11/2020 12:50

Eat 5 portions of veg a day. Plus 2/3 fruit. More veg is better. Lots of fibre, improves gut microbiome, low cal etc.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 01/11/2020 13:02

Eggs for breakfast
Soup for lunch
Normal dinner but smaller portion than you had before
Fruit and yoghurt for pudding/snack.

ShoesJerry · 01/11/2020 13:05

Never snack. Add treats onto the ends of meals as puddings, but never eat between meals. That was my NY resolution last year and I've stuck to it and dropped nearly 2 stone over the year.
