Help! Should I be bleeding this much?

itsgettingweird · 01/11/2020 08:32

I started having heavy periods about 2 years ago. First 2-3 days I could flood a tampon in an hour for a few hours and then 2-3 hours sometimes.

Started mini pill December 2019 but it seemed to make things worse. Prolonged my periods, they were more painful and started light and got heavier rather than the other way around.

In June I started spotting daily with extremely heavy bleeding in between. Constant pelvic pain etc.

It was manageable but in July it got worse and I had northisterone to stop extreme bleeding. 24 hours after I stopped it it started again and I was given more and 5 days into the course fitted with the mirena coil.

24 hours after I stopped I had a period for 5 days that was normal.

My cycle went to 25 days and my periods were 10-14 days long but manageable despite still being on heavy side 2-3 days in.

My period didn't come after 25 days but on day 29 I had a light bleed that lasted 8 hours.

Following day I had some residual cramping that didn't require pain relief.
My period started again around 8pm and by 8.30 I was flooding through a tampon every 15 minutes with large clots.
I found some tranaxamic acid I had at home and took 2 but it continued until 3.30am where I was flooding and the losing huge clots when I went to the loo.
Then my coil came out.

The bleeding stopped after an hour and no bleeding at all until 8pm again last night.

Again every 15-20 minutes at times I'm flooding through a pad and then losing clots on the toilet. Some clots are as large as a pot of jelly.

I had bad cramps during night that ibuprofen, paracetamol plus and a heat bag didn't negate.

I've taken a northisterone this morning as I was prescribed some to keep just in case and can take 3 a day.

Has anyone experienced this? I'll ring GP first thing tomorrow morning but I want to know what I'm asking for and the timescales to be pushing for (I know the pandemic is affecting things).

I was already aneamic after the summer and so this blood loss has made me feel so tired.

If you're flooding through a tampon in 15 minutes, I'd get to A&E.

Has no investigation been done to find out why you've had heavy periods for the last two years?!!!!

Onceuponatimethen · 01/11/2020 08:34

I think that sounds like a lot of blood loss and you should speak to nhs 111 ASAP this morning. They may want you to pick up some drugs at ooo.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/11/2020 08:35

Just saw about the clots as well - I agree definitely A&E as that is heavy blood loss and needs to be stopped

Yes please seek medical help today - that sounds awful Flowers

This happened to a lady here a long while ago, and the advice to her from everyone was to go to A&E. From what I remember, she was pretty poorly, but was better in the end.

In my area, you have to call before attending A&E. can you give them a ring? Hope you're sorted soon...ThanksCakeBrew

Sexnotgender · 01/11/2020 08:49

I’d go to A&E. there was a lady on here recently with this and I think she had a ruptured cyst? Don’t be fobbed off with ‘it’s just a period’.

TheMiMit · 01/11/2020 08:51

Definitely call 111 - this is not just a bad period. Sending love your way Thanks

wannabebump · 01/11/2020 08:54

You need A&E/111 today, not a GP tomorrow as that's absolutely not normal x

Hauskat · 01/11/2020 09:01

Please go to hospital or call 111 and they will definitely tell you to go to hospital. This sounds like a lots of blood loss and you sound very stoic. I am sure if you read that list to any doctor they would want to see you right away

itsgettingweird · 01/11/2020 09:02

I had an ultrasound at beginning of October and the GP mentioned adenemyosis and possibly caused by endometriosis and booked me in for a further scan in a year.

She said my uterine lining is extremely thick.

She wasn't kidding!

I'm assuming no cysts or they'd have been seen on scan? And GP would have told me?

Can you remember what the lady who went to A and E had?

I'm happy to go if absolutely necessary (I can ring 111 for advice) but I have a ds with autism who can't be left alone for long periods and my mum has cancer and is on chemo so it's not easy to ask them to have him.

If your gp scanned you and then did nothing other than book in another scan your gp is shit. You should be under the care of a gynaecologist.

That blood loss is extreme and frankly dangerous. Call 111, do not drive yourself to A and E as you’re bound to be feeling faint. If they say a and e which I suspect they will they’ll send an ambulance.

DO NOT MINIMISE you blood loss and pelvic pain, it’s hard enough to get treatment for endometriosis and adenomyosis as it is. I have had both and had multiple surgeries for both and know all too well how hard it is to get listened to and not fobbed off with ‘it’s normal for someone to experience some pain with their periods’. It’s bullshit, what you’re currently experiencing could potentially be life threatening.

Brownbananabandana · 01/11/2020 09:17

Oh and the previous poster that a few have mentioned ended up being admitted with sepsis because of her bleeding, so please do not take any risks, call 111 now and be very clear about the amount of blood loss you’ve experienced and that you’re feeling weak and tried

Brownbananabandana · 01/11/2020 09:19

Do you have anyone else you could ask to come and help with your ds? Family friend or other relatives? I think you need to be prepared for so that you’ve one less thing to worry about.

Sexnotgender · 01/11/2020 09:30

Yes the previous lady had sepsis. If she’d not followed the advice on here and gone to bed as she was planning her doctor said she would have died.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/11/2020 09:39

Op, I also have a dc and a dneice with sn so I do understand- please do seek help today even though it’s difficult logistically as your dc needs you to get well Flowers

Brownbananabandana · 01/11/2020 10:51

itsgettingweird how are you? Have you been able to get help?

itsgettingweird · 01/11/2020 11:04

Hi everyone. Sorry for going silent. I fell asleep! Or passed out

Ive stopped bleeding.

Whether that's because it's all gone, the northisterone working immediately or temporary again I don't know but I'll call a and e if it starts again later. (It shouldn't as the northisterone has always worked before)

I had extremely weird dreams when asleep which I always get when my period stops so 🤞

I'm obviously very tired but the blood loss and 2 nights of hardly any sleep will do that!
I'm feeling ok sort from this and also looking like the ghost from Halloween past.

They are making you wait A YEAR for a further scan? This is outrageous. Women's problems are minimised too often. I agree you should go to A&E I think this is an emergency so it's ok to ask your mum to have him while you go.
itsgettingweird · 01/11/2020 15:20

Well I had the mirena fitted which is the first port of call.

This was all arranged then. Now it's come out I would hope GO refers me tomorrow which is why I was asking what I should expect and timescales to push for.

I can't do this every month. I can't stand today without going dizzy. I won't be able to work tomorrow as a minimum (in a school) which puts greater pressure on staffing levels already struggling.

OP posts:
doctorhamster · 01/11/2020 15:25

It's disgraceful that you've been left like this for so long op. It really makes me angry when women are just abandoned like this.

Please speak to your GP and insist on an urgent referral. Meanwhile if the bleeding starts again, go to a&e. Bleeding through a tampon in 15 minutes is absolutely an emergency.

Suzi888 · 01/11/2020 15:27

I have no experience, but this sounds a dangerous level of blood loss. You need a gynaecologist ASAP!

I think she had a piece of uterine tissue blocking her cervix that got infected causing heave bleeding and possible sepsis.
itsgettingweird · 01/11/2020 18:25

@Cacacoisfarraige

I had very heavy periods. Some clots were very big too.

My uterine wall was thick but nothing sinister
I had an ablation which has sorted out the flow.

Three years later periods are still normal.

I'm asking for ablation tomorrow.

I'm hoping they can do it fairly quickly as in understand it's not under GA?
