Can’t work out if my cat is pedigree or not.

Hi

We rehomed our cat and her previous owner told us that she is half Siamese half Tabby.

Looking it up it seems that this is a kind of Siamese cat called a Tabby Point Siamese (and various other names) - so now I am wondering if she is a purebred cat or a moggy?

Trying to get insurance which is why I am asking.

Photo of said cat attached Smile.

Lovely picture. - might be worth while posting in the litter tray section?

vanillandhoney · 31/10/2020 17:35

If you don't have papers for her, it will probably be cheaper to say she's a moggy. Without a DNA test, there's no way of knowing either way :)

CoronaCurls · 31/10/2020 17:41

Can you post some more pictures of her body and tail - she could be a tabby point siamese but can't tell from that photo.

Is she noisy and hates being without humans?

Can you post a picture with her body showing clearly? I have Siamese, so might be able to recognise any similarities...

Sleepforever · 31/10/2020 17:42

@CoronaCurls Is she noisy? 🤣🤣 You know a Siamese then?!😃

OrtamLeevz · 31/10/2020 17:43

She's beautiful, and looks like a domestic shorthair to me - aka moggy.

blacksax · 31/10/2020 17:46

She has a definite moggy face.

MargotMoon · 31/10/2020 17:48

Some insurance companies have 'cross-breed' as an option, if not then choose DSH or moggy as she is not a pedigree

thebookeatinggirl · 31/10/2020 17:51

Tabby point Siamese are pure Siamese but with tabby point markings. Your gorgeous girl is domestic tabby cross. I think insurance companies ask as pure breed Siamese can be stupidly expensive.

Soubriquet · 31/10/2020 17:55

Doesn’t look pure Siamese to me as they tend to have a more triangular face

CoronaCurls · 31/10/2020 17:57

Yes @SleepForever - we currently have 7 Siamese!

4 are kittens though so will be leaving us soon 😢

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 17:59

Thanks so much.

A couple more photos of her.

Yes I put in Tabby point Siamese by mistake when getting my quote and was a bit 😱 at the result. Will change the details and see if that changes the outcome (hopefully it will!).

Thank you all 😊.

@CoronaCurls Wow! I'm so envious- you are a breeder?
I have two Meezers, one of whom is mega loud and one who is pretty quiet for a Meezer. What "type" are yours? I have a traditional and a "classic"

Sleepforever · 31/10/2020 18:05

Well, @CoronaCurls is the expert here, but she could be a Siamese cross, but that would make her a moggy for insurance purposes. She is beautiful ❤️

Regularsizedrudy · 31/10/2020 18:08

I have no idea but she’s gorgeous!

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 18:11

Thank you Smile.

(She is quite chatty and we think that that’s the Siamese in her - and also petite. Like a very young cat.)

Can anyone recommend good insurance? Even changing her to a Moggy Petplan is very expensive but I am wondering why some of the others are so much cheaper and which might be a good insurance company?

I think if the previous owner told you she is half Siamese, half tabby the chances of her being a pure bred Siamese are pretty slim. She is very pretty though.

I would always advise getting insurance but if you are finding insurance too expensive then you could take a chance and put aside a reasonable amount every month in a cat account to pay for emergencies. You could get lucky, especially if she is an indoor cat if you want to take the risk.

I am assuming she has already been spayed, which is another way to reduce the risk of vets bills for a queen . Remember too that vet bills always come with a hefty excess which will not be covered by insurance and that many procedures are excluded , as are annual inoculations, so you will need to factor these into your budget as well.

Madcats · 31/10/2020 18:26

That is a pretty little kitten, but there isn't much sign of a siamese to my eyes.

OP here is a photo of an (old style) blue tabby point siamese adult (male) who didn't have a particularly good pedigree. I think he was about 3 or 4 at the time of the photo. As a kitten he was very white, except for his points (head, paws, tail).

We don't bother with insurance any more.

CoronaCurls · 31/10/2020 18:31

I think she is a (very beautiful) cross -if she was pure Siamese she wouldn't have a stripy body. What colour are her eyes?

@SleepForever we currently have a seal point, a seal tortie point and a lilac, as well as 4 lilac kittens.

We have had Siamese for over 25 years, but am just starting breeding!
We have loved every minute and look forward to another litter next year. I'm keeping a girl from this litter so we can have even more kittens.

I did start a thread when the kittens were born, but I got loads of abuse for breeding so didn't update it.

mbosnz · 31/10/2020 18:33

To me, unless she was an apple head, she looks like a domestic shorthair who may have siamese in her - she's absolutely gorgeous, I hasten to add - and most probably more sensible, too!

I am on my third wedgehead, bat brained, wonky whiskered, nutjob of a meezer. She's the most siameezy I've ever had, even down to the rabid blanket munching. . .

whatisgoingtohappen · 31/10/2020 18:34

Thanks for the messages.

Her eyes are blue.

CrunchyNutNC · 31/10/2020 18:34

I'd be more likely to guess Bengal (marbled rather than spotty), rather than Siamese.

FlitterMouse · 31/10/2020 18:38

She is very pretty. Maybe more burmese than siamese?

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2020 18:39

Bit small for a Bengal, also sitting still 🤨 but tabby’s can be marbled too.

She has the Siamese gene if she has blue eyes but her face is domestic short hair. She is insanely pretty though no matter what her heritage.

CrunchyNutNC · 31/10/2020 18:43

These are snow marbled Bengals OP, albeit kittens...
