Do you own a toast rack?

I do. It is wonderful. My mum gave me it last week, and I've just used it this morning for the first time. It's an M&S china harvest pattern one.

I love it. I love it so much. I just put it on the table with the butter dish and fire toast straight in to it, and they can all butter their own, and for a few brief seconds I inexplicably felt as though I was winning at life and adulthood, with my toast rack and my scrambled eggs and all. Like an old vintage ad for breakfast cereal or something.

I love my toast rack.

No but I feel I want one now

HardAsSnails · 31/10/2020 10:46

Yes, we only use it at Christmas though 🎄

Audreyseyebrows · 31/10/2020 10:46

Yes, just a plain silver one.

ReallySpicyCurry · 31/10/2020 10:48

I didn't know I needed one either, until roughly half an hour ago.

It will grace our table every Saturday now.

I feel like I needed devilled kidneys with it- don't they have devilled kidneys and toast racks in Agatha Christie books?

What is a devilled kidney anyway?

Yes, plain silver here too. Stops soggy toast Brew

vinoandbrie · 31/10/2020 10:49

Ooh I didn’t think I wanted one, but I do now!

FlanForThree · 31/10/2020 10:50

I was just about to say the same as @HardAsSnails

I own one but it only comes out at Christmas when I’m trying extra hard to create idyllic family scenes around the table Grin

sashh · 31/10/2020 10:52

Ooooh I haven't got one, but does anyone else remember those metal 'breakfast sets' from the 1970s? Metal toast rack, tiny bowls for grapefruit and egg cups and spoons.

ZZGirl · 31/10/2020 10:52

No but you're selling it. I have a need

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/10/2020 10:53

I don’t have one, but I want one now! Off to Google.....

charlieclown · 31/10/2020 10:53

But doesn't the toast go cold?

ReallySpicyCurry · 31/10/2020 10:54

A tiny bowl for grapefruit.

I need one of those now too.

And those little spikes you put in the sides of sweetcorn

ReallySpicyCurry · 31/10/2020 10:55

Doesn't seem to go cold, no. The speed at which it reaches the rack from the toaster (to be swiftly buttered and consumed) is greater than the speed at which I can stand there and butter toast slice by slice before handing round

Ooooh @sashh you’ve just given me a flashback to my GPs house. Little dull silver bowls with a little stand bit at the bottom. Only ever used with tinned grapefruit sprinkled with golden sugar. Tart grapefruit with the little crunch of sweetness. I’m 8 again Grin

We have a toast rack. But I like soggy toast with the butter properly melted in so I don’t use it. DH would - he likes his butter as a slick greasy layer on top of the cold cardboard toast Confused

billysboy · 31/10/2020 10:58

there is a vintage Asprey one that I have seen with a small warmer underneath

Love toast racks !

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/10/2020 11:24

I own a toast rack.
I also have toast thumbscrews and a toast pillory and if none these make the toast confess it ends up on the toast ducking stool (although it does come out rather soggy).

This is the proper way to treat toast Grin
AlCalavicci · 31/10/2020 11:36

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles
Before you go to the dunking stool ( to dunk the soldiers in egg) you need to get the cat-o-nine-tails out , that'll make the little crumby thing talk .

Yes I have a toast rack , one that looks a bit like a spring. I dont use it often but it getts dusted of everynow and then .
It is also really useful for draining popadums on

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 31/10/2020 11:36

It's the only language toast understands

floofycroissant · 31/10/2020 11:37

Yes, I use it to organise letters, appointment details and stamps Grin

ReallySpicyCurry · 31/10/2020 11:58

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles inspirational. Sp glad to see someone treat toast with a firm hand in these wishy washy days

AllPlayedOut · 31/10/2020 12:00

No. I rarely eat toast but when I do I like it warm and soft, not cold and crisp. I can see the appeal in your circumstances though.

Iwantacookie · 31/10/2020 12:01

Yes because I dont like hot toast so I love using it.

Jojoanna · 31/10/2020 12:03

I want some tinned grapefruit now

travailtotravel · 31/10/2020 12:03

Oooh, popadom draining. Genius. I got one as a wedding present. I feel it's time may be now!
