The inflatable ones? I’m really tempted and always wanted one.

Can anyone tell me about the running of one, mainly rough costs??

Tia

The Honolulu says 6 people but honestly no more than 4 people is comfortable. I'd get a bigger one than the say it's suitable for.

Tryingtokeepsafe · 31/10/2020 17:51

I only need a little one though? I think the 1.96 is too big for the space I have got.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles Grin I have a shed which is empty and plan on pimping it up with painted walls, those rubber tile things and fairy light, much more appealing that my mouldy old grout in the bathroom Grin

We got an Avenli hot tub this summer. I love it and have used it loads. Haven't worked out the electricity costs yet but totally worth it!

We got a big cantilever parasol to cover it so we can still use it in the rain.

We have emptied it and put it away for the winter, as I know I won't use it, but next spring it will definitely be out again.

Get one, you won't regret it!

RevolutionRadio · 31/10/2020 18:00

We got one the other day, currently looking for a gazebo or something to use as a shelter so we haven't actually set it up yet.

Gohackyourself · 31/10/2020 18:19

Be very careful using it in an indoor space with the chemicals - if you use too much in chemicals you can create a chemical cloud as we found out one summer 5 years ago.
Don’t forget if it springs a leak too in an indoor structure like a shed, would you ruin it?
An finally dont piss off the neighbours with early morn/late night bubbles ( as per the many mn posts this summer Grin)

Tryingtokeepsafe · 31/10/2020 18:46

@Gohackyourself good point thank you for that. Someone said upthread about Not needing to use chemicals?

You’re using chemicals (because everything is chemicals), just not necessarily chlorine. We use oxygen tablets (oxygen being a chemical).

Roselilly36 · 31/10/2020 19:01

Lay z spa recommend chlorine for disinfection, I wouldn’t use a hot tub without chlorine, water & heat create a lot of bacteria. Chemical control is really important to keep water quality. It’s easy too do with test strips.

We had a lay z spa, lasted about 18mths, I would recommend googling Bestway makers of Lay z spa customer services prior to ordering, I wish I had.

Gohackyourself · 31/10/2020 19:08

@Roselilly36 definitely agree- heat grows bacteria - especially indoor setting, wood especially will get damp and could warp the shed roof with the heat.
It’s not a great idea for winter.

Had ours for 10 years. Never used chlorine. Water fine for months provided it’s been looked after. It’s reasonably basic science.
Feminist10101 · 31/10/2020 19:18

We use oxygen which decontaminates the water, along with ph+ and ph- as required.

Tryingtokeepsafe · 31/10/2020 19:19

It isn’t a proper shed and doesn’t had a shed roof, it has a garage roof as it is sort of integrated with the garage. If I keep the door open before use and during it would be ok wouldn’t it?

I have a question about running it.... so once it’s full and ready... can you keep it ‘ticking over’ sat mid week... then Friday morning whack on the heat etc so it can be used Friday to Sunday? Or does it have to work full whack 24/7? Just reading a slanging match on a different page about them so trying to work running cost and most cost effective way to run it?

We have the Helsinki which is an all weather one.

It’s fab!

No idea on running costs as I just prefer not to think about that!

Tryingtokeepsafe · 01/11/2020 09:59

Ok any idea about the accessories? Do I need this vacuum thingy.... I’m guessing for cleaning? When its empty can I not scrub it with soapy water and a sponge??

The Havana I think May tick all the boxes....

So it comes with a chemical starter kit. What (and how often) do you Need to do to it? I will use it Friday to Sunday I think? It supposedly has an energy saving mode on it but can I turn anything off between Sunday and Monday to save money on electricity?

OP posts:
Tryingtokeepsafe · 01/11/2020 16:53

Right I have ordered the Miami jet one but can someone please help me with maintenance? Shall I order the starter kit? People saying only need chlorine tablets... but I’m confused??? It won’t be used every day but of course I will look after it each day to keep it hygienic.

OP posts:
Mumbum2011 · 01/11/2020 19:35

Yes order the starter kit. We kept ours at around 32 and then if we were using that evening cranked it up to 39 about midday. Takes about 1 hr per degree generally.

Tryingtokeepsafe · 01/11/2020 20:12

@Mumbum2011 do you know how this ‘energy saving’ mode thing works on them? Sounds as though it’s turned ‘off’ but still ticking over and then you whack it back up before you want to get in?

What do you do and how often in terms of chemicals etc?

We got one at the start of lockdown in april, bloody love it Grin daily water check and £10 a week on your electricity bill though!

Open sky is the best, we have a cover that fits on for worst weather.

Does anyone have a lay z spa?
Tryingtokeepsafe · 01/11/2020 20:35

@BikerWife do you keep it on 24/7? So full whack ready to go all the time?

OP posts:
BikerWife · 01/11/2020 20:42

We usually turn it off when we go to bed and put it on again in the morning as we mainly use it in the evening. If we arent at work and will be using it in the day we leave it on overnight. In winter we have it at about 38 degrees and in the hot summer weather we turned it down to 32.

BabbleBee · 01/11/2020 20:45

You also need to check the weight load of the floor it is going on - if it’s a wooden shed floor or on wooden joists be sure it’s strong enough!

Tryingtokeepsafe · 01/11/2020 21:12

No it’s a concrete floor thankfully so no problem there.

@BikerWife if I was to use mine say Friday to Sunday... can you turn it off completely in between time and it just take ages to warm up so turn it on early Friday morning? Or does it have to ‘tick over’ in between?

OP posts:
BikerWife · 01/11/2020 21:24

I think it warms at about 1 degree an hour... Main issue is water quality so you would need to run filter daily even if not heating and you would need to check chlorine, pH and alkalinity daily (it's easy with a dip strip).
