Can’t do the spelling but we and 2 generations down still do.

Acha vie

For something horrible.

Now you listen to me good boy.... (when you're in trouble and not good at all!)

3catsandcounting · 29/10/2020 21:11

My gran used to exclaim "dewwww' which I sort of translated as "well I never" or "OMG"!

BackforGood · 29/10/2020 21:12

Pig in the Bath (Max Boyce for those not in the know)

C0rdelia · 29/10/2020 21:12

Usually when she was offered 'foreign food'

nythbran2 · 29/10/2020 21:13

3cats - is 'Duw', means 'God'

BestIsWest · 29/10/2020 21:14

Bad in bed (under the doctor of course)

BestIsWest · 29/10/2020 21:16

MoonSauce · 29/10/2020 21:21

Cordelia my parents have a whole range of Welsh curses, that’s just one of them. Others are

Arglwydd Mawr
Mawredd mawr
Er mwyn dyn
And one that sounds like ‘Yr yssen gols’ but I haven’t a clue what that means.

C0rdelia · 29/10/2020 21:25

And ‘ych a fi.’

We were brought up with this. Thank you.

Come over by here for a cwtch (cuddle).
It's over by there.

Tidy, like (alright/fine).

My uncle's choice of swear words (in front of me, anyway) used to be: Diawel (pronounced "jowl") a mopsticks!
I assume "diawel" was "devil" but never knew where the "a mopsticks" came from Smile

Poor little dab.

Mind you... used at the beginning of a sentence almost as much as "So, ..." is now.

WinWinnieTheWay · 29/10/2020 21:31

By yere (here)

LaMarschallin · 29/10/2020 21:31

nythbran2

3cats - is 'Duw', means 'God'

I used to hear it repeated a lot too: Duw Duw.

WinWinnieTheWay · 29/10/2020 21:33

I'm not gonna to lie to you

Or

I've gor to be onest.

JustCallMeGriffin · 29/10/2020 21:33

I had no idea some words were Welsh(ish) growing up because they'd be stuck in the middle of an English sentence...

Give us a cwtch (hug)
Don't clecs (tell tales/gossip)

The funniest was in Chapel. If you said "Oh my god" you'd get a clip around the ear for taking the lord's name in vain...then the same person would mutter "Duw, duw"!

LaMarschallin · 29/10/2020 21:34

You're my butty (friend)

ChaToilLeam · 29/10/2020 21:35

DP is a Welshman. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Favourite saying of his dad:
Come over by yur (here).
Who’s coat is that jacket?

BestIsWest · 29/10/2020 21:35

I googled diawl a mopsticks because I remember hearing it years ago. No idea where it originated but it’s been in use since the 1890s at least.

Tutty down - get down low or bend down. Not sure if that was welsh or just my mum!
