A Kinder surprise I really don't need

The kids bought Kinder eggs with their pocket money yesterday. They usually have a merry ol time making the toys inside. Now, some toys are designed to be used with an app - you scan the QR code and the downloaded app makes the useless piece of plastic kinder surprise toy come to life AR (augmented reality) style, it becomes a character in the games on the app and you can use the phone's camera to take pictures of the AR character in your room or to take selfies.

So my kids were having a whale of a time making the cartoon giraffe stand in different parts of the living room, changing its size from giant to teeny tiny. I could hear them squealing with laughter from the next room. Great app. Such fun.

This app stores all the photos and also adds them to your gallery. Kids are loving it. I can hear them laughing. Maybe I can share a nice one with grandma later.

Then they come running to show me their pictures. What did they take pictures of?

My 5 year old daughter's bumhole.

FFS!! I can delete the pictures from my gallery, but NOT THE APP.

please tell me this doesn't send some sort of 'indecent images' alert to Ferrero HQ and I have the police knocking on my door collecting up all my electronics for forensic analysis. I need my laptop for work.

On the plus side, this became an opportune moment to sit the kids down and have a little talk about 'private areas' and not taking pictures.

I think as OP isn’t horrified from an assault perspective you should probably take the post at face value.

Plenty of people either don’t realise or minimise when their children exhibit concerning behaviour.

I know that but this is an anonymous forum we have to take her post at face value. Your post jumped straight to ‘daughter being violated’ - it wasn’t an attempt to educate.

As an aside my, kids have known how to take a photo on a phone from age 3. Not good ones, mind

reading the comments i, and having been on mumsnet for donkeys years, i totally understand why people might think this trolly but this genuinely happened. the er 'photographer, was a six year old (they're 18 months apart) and after we had a little chat about 'remember we talked about 'private areas' the older one actually burst into tears from seeing how not amused we were. Poor kid. Both genuinely thought it was funny.

this is definitely one of those its funny but also kinda not funny stories that i laugh at the innocence of the kids and cringe at the same time.

I have no concerns that this indicates anything 'wrong' or concerning with either the 5 or 6 year old. Bums are funny. I still feel bad that we made the 6yr old cry, though.

I do think people rush to label some kids' behaviour as 'sexualised' or 'disturbing' when it is honestly kids finding willies, bums and vaginas funny and rude, which sounds very much what's happened here. I don't see it's anything to worry about on its own - but obviously an issue if kids and doing or saying things that suggest sexual knowledge as opposed to just curiosity, or laughing at 'rude bits'.

exactly. and its a fine line when teaching them appropriate without making them feel body parts are dirty or shameful. this is why we used 'private' and 'just for you' (and not to be photographed!). we did tell them they weren't in trouble.

neither have asked to use the app since, though. I've deleted it and learned my lesson about unsupervised access to a camera.

Reminds me of when I was clicking through my 4 year olds iPad and discovered a variety of nudes of myself in the shower. Glad I got to them before grandma! Nothing sinister at all. Kids are obsessed with butts!
