Inspiring/life affirming classic movies?

Our girls (13 and 14 years) have been enjoying our Friday night classic movie nights. They love Shawshank, Amadeus and those really emotional uplifting films, usually 1990s/ 2000s but I think they’d cope with earlier...we’ve done Hitchcock and Audrey Hepburn etc

They’re still young but they can cope with slightly more mature stuff, we FF through any violence or sexual stuff. And they reckon they hear so much swearing at school they can cope with hearing the odd fuck

So any further suggestions???

My Left Foot is just the sort of thing I’m after, thanks! A bit more challenging, edgy - that’s what they’re after.

Hacksaw ridge!!

Untouchable - French film with subtitles which I and my kids adored as a firm favourite. Very heart warming and fun. Also Little Miss Sunshine - some very funny character roles (running like the uncle played by Steve Carrell is still a family joke) and Juno - wise and funny. My DD and I also loved Ladybird.

My DD also loved and still loves all Jane Austen movies. She also really loved Brooklyn and Testament of Youth (so sad).
And a really classy film Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. Also the Devil Wears Pravda and Legally Blond were easy watching favourites of hers.

As PP said - Juno is also great.

Not sure about One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest - I found it a bit boring when I watched when I was about 15. Liked it later and saw Christian Slater on stage who was amazing.

Superb suggestions everyone, thank you! DP has said Schindler's List previously, but I can't bear the thought of watching it again I was so upset when I watched that.

All the other are definitely going on the list - The Green Mile, Dead Poets, that's just the ticket.

Friday Night Movie Night is good to go!

We did It's a Wonderful Life last Xmas, they loved that...

Schindlers List had a profound (and not necessarily positive) impact on me at that age. I've also recently changed my view on The Piano (used to love it, now not so sure).
