Which parts of the UK correspond to which parts of America?

This is just a light heart random thought that occasionally pops into my head for some reason. I try to work out which bits of the UK could be mapped across to the states. Obvious the climate is very different but hopefully you get the idea.

I think about characteristics/ terrain or just whatever tenuous link I can think of!

So for me:

London = New York
Manchester = Chicago
Cornwall = Florida
Devon = Louisiana
Edinburgh = Seattle
Wales = Montana

Any more ideas or better suggestions?

Both known for their music scenes and both are very wet

Bath - Savannah

Manchester - Boston

I actually think Maine is more like either Cornwall or the Highlands. Very coastal and touristy.

Appalachia: rural Suffolk

Having lived in both, I love this!

Utah: Shropshire

Right now I'd say York = New Orleans.

Both full of history, and people on hen weekends.

Surrey = Connecticut
Chelsea = Greenwich Village

Yorkshire would be Texas. San Antonio reminded me of York when we visited.

I would have said Brighton = California

Colorado = Cumbria

As an American I find this thread hilarious! I think the OP got it mostly correct.

Northern Ireland = Alabama (that's the Bible belt, isn't it?)

Seattle in Washington State is not comparable to Edinburgh, but could be comparable to the wilds of Scotland when you are away from the city. Its a very beautiful state, with mountains and forests and lakes etc. I lived there for three years.

Virginia = York
