Kettles, what do you have.

Are fancy pants kettles worth the money?

Does your kettle have any cool features other than a bit of mood lighting?

My mum has a Dualit, and is always commenting on how my Smeg is really heavy.
I've never noticed as I've had it for so long now, but the weak wristed may wish to avoid the Smeg!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/10/2020 22:48

Oooh. Mine was the cheapest one in Tesco a few years ago but it seems to be taking longer and longer to boil now, so I want a new one that can boil in the 3 minutes between Teams calls.

Bosch £59 Amazon. My old Bosch kettle which I’ve had for many years stopped working so I bought an identical on this week. The original one has started working again so I now have two identical Bosch kettles.

I've had it for at least 6 years and still going strong. Is it value for money? Probably not, it's still just a kettle!

Coffeecak3 · 18/10/2020 23:09

Dd has the red Smeg kettle. She loves it.
I have a very slow morphy Richard's.

TheBeeatAmbridge · 18/10/2020 23:10

I have the same Bosch kettle as Bruffin. It's fabulous and I love it, it's worth every penny (I got it for £70)

Shiny black KitchenAid (we cannot afford to do up our decrepit kitchen so I comforted myself with a fancy kettle).

As DP pointed out, it looks a bit like we have the Chief Dalek on the countertop, but I have no regrets.

SillyCow6 · 19/10/2020 16:37

I have a cheap Tesco one, it has lasted years, a good 5/6 anyway. I need to choose a new kettle though and I dont like most of the ones out there. Completely first world problem but I dont like the ones with the semi circular handles much and the rest just seem boring. I know its just a kettle but if Im going to spend 50+ quid Id like it to be on something worthwhile. Might just look at the most efficient one and go with it

Therebythedoor · 19/10/2020 19:57

OH bought a Smarter (make) ikettle about 4 years ago. The good thing about it is that it pours very nicely.

I've never used the smart functions and nor has OH since the initial flurry of excitement at having the kettle switch on as he approached the house. As he says, it's easy enough to press the button. Now I've mentioned it, of course, Alexa has just been told to switch the kettle on and I'm about to get a cup of tea..

Twospaniels · 19/10/2020 20:54

Don’t have a kettle anymore. We have an Insinkerator hot tap 99deg instant hot water. Love it.

Dualit Architect. It's a thing if beauty and boils quickly.

Babymamaroon · 20/10/2020 20:55

I've got a SMEG one. Quite pricey and don't last long but I love the look of it!

Franticbutterfly · 20/10/2020 23:47

I've had loads of kettles over the years. I really recommend the delonghi brilliante and my current one the Dualit Classic.

smileannie · 20/10/2020 23:57

Why not treat yourself to this and maybe the toaster too, although at that price I would expect the toaster to be 4 slice not 2!

I bought a cheap white one from Asda 12 years ago, quick to boil. still going strong, it was £ 5.99 then.

BasiliskStare · 21/10/2020 05:15

Whilst I rather love @Cataline s kettle I have to say I have not had one for over 7 years. Quooker boiling water tap - no waiting for boiling.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 21/10/2020 05:19

I always feel the Quooker looks incredibly dangerous. AIBU?

How does it work in the same house as children?

AlCalavicci · 21/10/2020 06:54

I have a stove top kettle , it's about 10 years old and old style type with a swan neck which makes it really easy to pour . It's just started to leak slightly from a tiny hole in the base I have tried looking for a new one but can't find one anywhere.
Very Sad

PoulePouletteEternellement · 21/10/2020 07:04

Won't Aga have what you want, AlCalavicci? Or Ottoni Fabbrica?

Friends of mine had exactly what you describe from a German manufacturer. The whistle died after about five years, so they emailed the company to order a new whistle. The company sent them a whole new kettle. Free. With apologies. (Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the brand!)

BasiliskStare · 21/10/2020 09:08

@PoulePouletteEternellement - I do not think you are being unreasonable at all - It sounds mad having a boiling water tap ( my son was 5 at the time ) I don't mind whatever anyone else wants but I love mine and 1) it has a sort of special knob bit which you have to push before the water comes out - so not like turning on a normal tap & especially children won't be able to do it by accident thinking it is the tap. 2) when the water does come out it has some air in it so even as an adult ( because I really don't believe young children could turn the tap on by accident ) you could swipe your finger under without burning

But it does make a lovely cup of tea and water for pasta etc so much quicker and easier , just anything you need boiling water for - just there.

I have to say my DH suggested this & I thought it was a gadget type thing. Was not interested - had one in our last house & have one in this so about 10 years. Would not be without on now.

Enough - people are really interested in kettles - which in our case (to quote Henry Reed ) we have not got Grin

CleverCatty · 21/10/2020 11:27

Brita one - can't recall price - don't use the water filter on it - but a good kettle.

AlCalavicci · 21/10/2020 22:06

@PoulePouletteEternellement,
Yes Aga have this one that I like but I can not justify spending £90 on a kettle/
www.agacookshop.co.uk/home-accessories/kettles/classic-kettle.html

I cant see any from Ottoni Fabbrica that are not eletric .

For them that are looking at hot taps , check out the cost of replacing the filters , We have them at work and my boss complains about the price every year ( he is not tight fisted )

PoulePouletteEternellement · 21/10/2020 22:27

Ah, just remembered I saw it somewhere else! But similar price to the Aga kettle unfortunately.
