Kettles, what do you have.

Are fancy pants kettles worth the money?

Does your kettle have any cool features other than a bit of mood lighting?

This thread is old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best kettle guide with plenty of high-quality, long-lasting options that come Mumsnetter approved. We hope they’re useful!

An Amazon Basics one bought in a hurry a few years ago, and every bit as good as anything more expensive that we have owned. We both work from home, and we drink a lot of tea, so it is used many, many times a day.

I can't fault it.

Orangesox · 18/10/2020 19:09

Dualit Architect that replaced a Delonghi that we’d had for around 8 years that was ultimately destroyed by the frequency of descaling required due to having extra hard water. We now used filtered water in the new kettle which has worked wonders!

FrogFairy · 18/10/2020 19:50

I have this Bosch variable temperature kettle, still working after 8 years.

Tesco fast boil £12 it's been going for 6 years now ......

LeSquigh · 18/10/2020 19:54

I have had a Siemens Porsche kettle in my younger, more frivolous days - didn’t last long and was expensive. Love Dualit toasters but think the kettles are ugly. Currently have a Bosch Styline kettle, it’s good, and also heats to different temperatures, so you can go lower for coffee.

bloodywhitecat · 18/10/2020 20:03

Stove top kettle with a whistle (induction hob), it's quicker than an electric kettle and it has the added benefit of letting me know it's boiling. When I had a regular electric kettle I was forever setting it to boil then forgetting about it and having to reboil it 20 minutes later.

bruffin · 18/10/2020 20:05
@bruffin that's the type of thing I'm after.

£80 though :o
You can get it cheaper, we paid nearer £60 I think

Sceptre86 · 18/10/2020 20:08

Dualit lite, expensive but worth it. I quite like delonghi ones too but couldn't find one that matched my other appliances.

BashfulClam · 18/10/2020 20:14

I really want a stainless steel smeg one but can’t justify the cost.

fillmeupbuttercup · 18/10/2020 20:17

The Asda glass fast boil kettle is recommended by which. Everyone seems to love it (it lights up blue) at least 3 other people have brought one after seeing ours.

Flyguy2019 · 18/10/2020 20:19

I have this sage one...

Has it 3 years and half years. It is on the expensive side but I love it. Have the matching toaster too. Love the look of the smeg ones too x

@FrogFairy

I have this Bosch variable temperature kettle, still working after 8 years.

We’ve got the same one, brilliant if you want different temperatures but pretty noisy.
Bajalaluna · 18/10/2020 21:23

I have a breville hot cup water dispenser. It's great. I turn it on, put the mug under (with teabag/coffee/sugar etc) and by the time I've got the milk from the fridge, it's done! We got the slightly nicer looking chrome one, for about £52. Only time I'd say it's not as good as a kettle, is when needing to do a "round" of hot drinks, as you can only do one at a time. Rest of the time, it's so much quicker and easier than a kettle, takes up barely any counter space, and looks nice. Would have to be a pretty special kettle to persuade me to go back to one!

cataline · 18/10/2020 21:32

I have this Poodle & Blonde x Haden kettle. I absolutely love it!

Kettles, what do you have.
saraclara · 18/10/2020 21:38

I love my Dualit Studio (the white one). I had a cheapo Tesco thing before, which did the job. But the Dualit is so sleek and I love the shape.

MJMG2015 · 18/10/2020 21:48

A cheap cordless chrome one I bought to tide us over until we renovated the kitchen. Still going strong 11 years later. Kitchen still not renovated 🤣🤣

mogtheexcellent · 18/10/2020 21:53

Another russell Hobbs buckingham quiet kettle owner here. Its fab. I'm the only one who drinks hot drinks but it still gets a lot of use.

JeSuisPrest · 18/10/2020 21:58

Another one with the Bosch Styline. Has range of temperatures, keep warm option and a good loud beep when it has finished boiling. Though with that, the washing machine, the tumble dryer and the dishwasher all bibbing at me at various points during the day demanding I attend to them and their contents I wonder who is the real master!

MyNameForToday1980 · 18/10/2020 22:08

We have the same one as @FrogFairy - more than happy with it.

SBTLove · 18/10/2020 22:10

DeLonghi Brilliante, last Delonghi kettle lasted 15 yrs, quick to boil.

charlieclown · 18/10/2020 22:11

We have a one cup tooo. I love it.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 18/10/2020 22:14

Why didn't I think of starting this very thread?

I had one of those "it'll do for now" basic Sainsbury's kettles that refused to die for about six years, so I was obliged to keep it. Perfectly good, if noisy.

Once it started leaking water, I substituted one of my beloved KitchenAid saucepans while I made up my mind what to get next ...

I have been in indecision hell for at least eighteen months now. Occasionally disappearing down obscure Japanese metalwork website rabbit holes. It's excruciating. I even had a long and detailed conversation with a British Gas person regarding the true cost of electric v stovetop kettles. Am none the wiser. (And long ago ceased to have the sort of Aga lifestyle I'm imagining for the new purchase.) I'm currently tempted to get one of each, so I'll have back up if any bastard virus renders me too weak to leave my bed.

FairlyOddmother · 18/10/2020 22:24

I used to have a stove top Le Creuset, after about a year it rusted inside Shock so I invoked the Lifetime Guarantee and sent it back. TBF they sent me a new one by return.
Currently have a bog standard supermarket electric job as I wanted to free up the hob space.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/10/2020 22:37

Russel Hobs £20something from Tesco's. Boils pretty quickly. Pretty good value when you think how many times a day it's used and the last one lasted over 5 years

eatsleepread · 18/10/2020 22:42

A pastel green Smeg kettle. It's a thing of beauty and I've had it for years.
I would never have a white plastic kettle in my kitchen.
