Crawling babies footwear for the park?

I'm a bit stuck, my boy is crawling and walking in equal measure.
What do you put on their feet for the playground?
Seems as though the Clarkes Cruisers or similar are too soft to take the outdoor crawling, but proper shoes are too hard.
Thanks in advance

I don't remember ever letting my kids crawl around a playground.

Far too much spit and animal piss.

Can you not just see that he doesn't do it while he's there?

LolaSmiles · 17/10/2020 15:23

We bought a pair of pre-walker shoes from Clark's. They had proper sole and we only used them when we took DC outside because they technically don't need shoes before they're walking independently.

Nikwax protecting them was a life saver too.

borageforager · 17/10/2020 15:24

I used leather moccasin type things like this www.dottyfish.com/product/boys/boys-shoes/beep-beep-car/

Had a couple of pairs from eBay.

I'm a pretty laid back parent when ot comes to dirt etc. But there's no way I'd let my daughter crawl in the park 🤢

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/10/2020 15:29

I used to put mine in a waterproof suit plus booties like this m.alexandalexa.com/en/product/276298/navy-antura-booties?country_override=GB&gclid=CjwKCAjwrKr8BRB_EiwA7eFaprOZJQHFMSsJ6y2PkZ5RDafkrahBVvypdb2_7Rmzdb723G92SF_QZhoCxqsQAvD_BwE
Also brilliant for keeping their feet warm in a sling.

I wouldn't let mine crawl in the play areas, but have no issue with the grass and piles of autumn leaves. They do forest school anyway so we have a fairly liberal approach to mud and a good supply of hand gel. Grin

Soubriquet · 17/10/2020 15:36

I didn’t bother with shoes until they walked. Even pre-cruisers. I used them when they took their first steps so they got used to wearing shoes before forking our for proper hard shoes

I let mine crawl around in small doses with just socks on but this was in summer not autumn.

Baby ds having a little crawl around in the park. He was starting to walk a little but preferred to crawl Grin

Thanks for all the good suggestions.

Do people really not let their dc crawl around on grass / bark etc? It'd be a miserable day for the younger dc to be strapped into a buggy whilst older dc plays on the park. Plus the way the older ones play they come into contact with the floor anyway, rolling about playing footie etc, are children really that sanitised now?

The grass I don't mind. The floor at our park is just bloody grim.

My children have never been 'that sanitized'. In fact they're grown up now and I don't recall sanitizing wipes/sprays even being a thing when they were little.

But there is too much spit, piss and shit in my local park.

Of course they weren't strapped into the buggy all the time. We'd bring a large picnic blanket for them to crawl around on, or put them on the play equipment and play with them.

Darkestseasonofall · 17/10/2020 16:05

@worraliberty I did exactly that with dc1 and she was more than happy to have a few turns on the swing and stay on the blanket with some toys.

DS is a completely different kettle of fish, he wants to chase after his sister and her mates and explore every available inch, I guess all dc are different.

In normal times we'd spend rainy days in soft play etc, which I think is probably more filthy than any outdoor surface Confused

No chance, the thought had never even entered my head until I saw your thread. Even now, absolutely no way will my child be crawling outside.
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/10/2020 18:21

I’m shocked that people don’t let babies craw about outside. Is it just surfaced parks that people object to or is it your own garden too?

Mine crawled all about the playpark, the garden, the woods etc

weepingwillow22 · 17/10/2020 18:44

I am feeling terrible now for letting my 11 month old crawl around the playground last week. He can cruise but prefers to crawl. I just put him in an all in one waterproof and first shoes and keep an eye that he is not putting things in his mouth.

Darkestseasonofall · 17/10/2020 18:46

@weepingwillow22 why feel awful? This post seems to be 50/50 those who do vs those who don't. If your baby enjoys it why not?

Diverseduvet · 17/10/2020 18:50

I can't believe people don't let babies crawl outside. That's how they get about. Just keep an eye they don't put nasties in their mouth and give then a quick wipe at home time.

Changedmynameagain1 · 17/10/2020 18:54

www.startriteshoes.com/twist-green-boys-riptape-first-walking-shoes Something like this would be fine.

My DD has been walking for 3 months (she’s 13 months) and we use these. They are perfect. Her feet are protected and they are still soft for crawling.

Most of the walkers at nursery have these too.

Meepmeeep · 17/10/2020 19:04

If my baby is outside they are in their pram. I really didn’t realise I should be letting them loose 🤷🏻‍♀️

User0ne · 17/10/2020 19:05

Grin both my 2 crawled about in the local park, my allotment and garden (and probably multiple other places that I've forgotten).

Our park is pretty good piss wise though I do remember having to pull clay, snails and chicken poo out of mouths on various occasions at the allotment.

Sorry I can't remember what they were wearing on their feet; probably wellies/shoes as moccasins wouldn't have kept the wet out.

notanotheronepleasee · 17/10/2020 19:10

Watch out for used needles in the grass (London based so maybe just my parks🤷🏼‍♀️)

These are great. We let our the DC crawl about on the parks - no harm done and good fo wearing them out

MileyWiley · 17/10/2020 19:15

Another very relaxed parent here but no way is my child crawling in outside in a public place. Our garden yes as it's paved and fake grass. But in a park not unless on a picnic blanket. She loves the swings and bouncers though.

FightMilkTM · 17/10/2020 19:16

My (now) 14 month has just spent the summer crawling, then learning to walk at our local park.
It’s only now that it’s got wet (and that she is able to walk to the park itself) that I’ve been putting shoes on her.
She seems ok.

RunGinSleepRepeat · 17/10/2020 19:16

Mine crawled around in the park. He wanted to explore and be with his older brothers. Seemed mean to keep him strapped him the pram / held and grumpy when he just wanted to he involved. I used clarks cruisers to protect his feet.
