What are you doing to keep yourself sane?

I was just wondering how everyone else is getting through this? I am rereading many children’s books, going to bed early and rewatching a very long sci-fi series with my dh in the evenings- basically trying to escape. I work in a school and it’s just an exhausting grind.

When I'm not WFH, it's crochet, walking, trying to get my French up to scratch again, and watching too many property porn programmes like Escape to the Country. But I do usually crochet whilst TV watching, so at least I'm sort of multi tasking.

Nothing, I'm quite enjoying the opportunity to go slightly mad! It's an interesting experience and only temporary so I'm not worried.

I have always struggled through the dark months.
All my usual options to deal with it aren't allowed this year.
Even my garden which was lovely in summer is looking brown and depressing.

So have been mostly doing too much food and wine Sad

So I have got some indoor activities in which I'm looking forward to (large jigsaw, new Switch game, and a complicated lego set). Hope they help distract me.

@Purpleice

Being resentful and grumpy is my favourite outlet!
I love a good grumpy mood !

Keeping myself sane has required a lot of batteries. Wink

Eating, playing daft games on my phone, watching tv although I'm running out??? and thank god I have started reading again so getting through lots of books. Anything to not have to think. Unfortunately I think I'm losing the battle as any time I do have a gap I start crying. Hmmmm.

grassisjeweled · 19/10/2020 02:06

I'm currently watching You've Got Mail

It's from 1998!

StarlightLady · 19/10/2020 09:13

@Furries - Needs must! Victorian GPs called it stress relief !!!!!! No home equipment back then.

Bluesheep8 · 19/10/2020 11:38

Working.

I played a lot of Bubblemania but I reached all the levels (1100 or something) and found that the levels kept repeating themselves so I deleted the app. I then went a little mad. Can anyone recommend another game which is not Candy Crush (couldn’t get into that for some reason).

midsomermurderess · 19/10/2020 13:27

Swimming. You book online and the sessions are limited to 25 people for the whole pool. There's never anywhere near 25 in when I've been, so you sometimes have an entire lane to yourself, the nirvana of public pool swimming. And it's so quite because there are no children in, splashing, yelling etc. Everyone come s in, ploughs up and down their lane, it's serene and almost meditative. I do accept that it's sad kids can't be there swimming but that is the set up and doing wonders for me physically and mentally.

PicsInRed · 19/10/2020 13:31

"Sanity"?
What is this beforetimes magic you speak of? 🤔

Orangeblossom7777 · 19/10/2020 13:46

Swimming and a routine is helping. Less news

Eating.

Glad to see I am not the only one not embracing the losing weight trend.

Just eating and eating.

Everything is so shit.

Sorry I should start another 'F off' thread, the last one was good. No-one wants to hear how utter crap you feel and how utter shit your DC school is and how utterly horrid their teachers are and awful the neighbours are or how selfish and shit your DH is.
So I just eat.

MotherofPearl · 19/10/2020 18:30

Complaining bitterly to like minded friends. I have a lovely colleague at work. We've agreed that nothing lifts our spirits as much as good mutual moan. So when we see each other we take turns relentlessly complaining. Neither of us mind and neither of us make any attempt to cheer each other up. It's great. Grin

Meal planning, online shopping, cooking.
