When you message or email DH/DP

Do you open with Hi DH/DP name? Say your DH was called Christopher, would you start a text Hi Chris? Or just Hi? Or Hi Darling/Pet Name?

I find it quite cold but trying to gauge if it’s just me being weird.

Ooh, sometimes if I'm being silly I'll start "oi! !"

mashainpink · 13/10/2020 21:28

We call each other "baby" (I know Blush) so it's usually "hi baby..." or darling or babe, or I just dive right in with what I need/am talking about!

If my DH ever said "hi [my name]" in an email or text, I'd think he was divorcing me!

Crystal87 · 13/10/2020 21:32

No it's too formal and weird.

julietteb18 · 13/10/2020 21:33

Emailing work: Hi Chris
Emailing personal: see attached
Text: fuck sake why haven’t you loaded the dishwasher

foreverandalways · 13/10/2020 21:37

Hi pet name always

Namechangeme87 · 13/10/2020 21:42

I don’t say hi to anyone unless I was messaging someone more formally / work WhatsApp / someone I rarely talk to

Jemenfouscompletement · 13/10/2020 21:47

Mon chéri

(DH is French)

limesoda · 13/10/2020 21:50

No greeting here. I hardly ever address him by name in spoken conversation, either.

OhTheRoses · 13/10/2020 21:54

No, but I did once just say "just thought I'd say I love you". Was a busy morning and sent it to the window cleaner by mistake Grin.

I apologised.

Shizzlestix · 13/10/2020 21:57

No names, no pack drill! 😂 Always just ‘On my way home, pet name X’

Shodan · 13/10/2020 22:00

We don't live together yet, so our texts start first thing with Good morning and end last thing before we go to sleep with Night night .

They're also littered with emojis, and we use Sweetie a lot too.

Honestly I know it's vomit-worthy but it does have roots: he finds it very difficult to say things face to face, so it's something of an outlet for Feelings.

And now it's become something of a joke between us Grin

CorianderLord · 13/10/2020 22:01

No I just text the sentence.

'Can you pick up milk from the shop'
'Love you, turn music down'
'Have you every considered how small a gap a raccoon can get into'

Etc

BathtubGin · 13/10/2020 22:03

Looked at ours- pretty typical:

I am in the pub

See you in a bit

Look what I am having! (with picture of big beer)

FanjoFandango · 13/10/2020 22:39

Most of the time I just send the message, very occasionally I start with 'hey babe'

Sheknowsaboutme · 13/10/2020 22:45

Just a message. Don’t need to address him, he knows who he is.

BertieBotts · 13/10/2020 22:53

Hardly ever say his name unless I'm trying to get his attention from a distance!

I never understand the whole trope of saying the wrong name during sex. Who is saying their partner's name during sex?? Do people actually do this? :o

BertieBotts · 13/10/2020 22:56

I just searched "hi" in our WhatsApp history and it's all him / his - most of our chats are running humorous commentary about what one of the DSes are doing.

BertieBotts · 13/10/2020 22:57

We never say hi, hello or hey on messages.

This reminds me of a different thing - apparently you can tell if two colleagues or friends are secretly shagging each other because they stop saying please and thank you when they hand each other things.

WishingOnACarrot · 13/10/2020 22:58

Just message with a few kisses at the end. Short, sweet, perfunctory 😊

supersky · 13/10/2020 23:01

I rarely start with hi, usually just go straight into what I want to say

Shinyletsbebadguys · 13/10/2020 23:02

No we don't ever introduce ourselves , actually I think if I did he would ring me and say something like "bloody hell I know it's from you and I know I'm me ....you are becoming like my mother " because it irrationally drives him nuts that she messages or emails him with "Mum here " as the first line and every time without fail he yells at the screen "yes mum I know it's you I can see your number /email address " he does love her loads but it's one of those annoying quirks that somehow drives him mad --especially when I laugh at him for getting annoyed every time

We have the same rule , no kisses on the end means you are in the proverbial.

Saying that I am 41 and my father still if he texts me , once in a blue moon , starts with Hello Shiny and ends with from dad Grin just in case I wasn't sure Grin

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2020 23:07

Nope, straight to the point, which is strange because for my friends I do allllll the hearts, flowers and emojis!

Together for 20 years, married for 10

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 13/10/2020 23:09

I literally never use my DH's name, unless talking about him to other people...it feels weirdly formal! He doesn't use mine either. Just silly pet names or no name at all on messages.
