When you message or email DH/DP

Do you open with Hi DH/DP name? Say your DH was called Christopher, would you start a text Hi Chris? Or just Hi? Or Hi Darling/Pet Name?

I find it quite cold but trying to gauge if it’s just me being weird.

We work in the same field so usually I address him like anyone else.

Hi DH name.

No kisses.

Texts

I don't use his name but always add two kisses.

FamBae · 13/10/2020 19:28

Just the message I know who he is and he knows who I am, hearts and kisses to sign off though Grin

firesong · 13/10/2020 19:32

I don't always open like that at all, but sometimes "hey you", or "Hiya (silly pet name)". He doesn't ever start with a hello/hi

GameSetMatch · 13/10/2020 19:36

I don’t use ‘hi’ at all usually straight into the message.... ‘please can you get some bread on the way home x’ that sort of message, I wouldn’t say hi.

CatToddlerUprising · 13/10/2020 19:37

We don’t use Hi/pet names/actual names/kisses etc.

firesong · 13/10/2020 19:39

Just checked boyfriend's messages out of curiosity and see that he often says "morning my love"

DinosApple · 13/10/2020 19:39

I sent DH one that said 'bread' earlier 😂. We've been together 15 years.

MrsTumbletap · 13/10/2020 19:41

Just checked and we do say "hi babe, can you get milk on the way home. Xx'

I didn't think we did but we do! Shock

MJMG2015 · 13/10/2020 19:42

Nah. That's weird.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2020 19:42

We don't either. I wonder if it's an age thing, as in we started texting before it was The Law to use a million kisses per message unless you didn't like or were annoyed at the recipient.
Plussizejumpsuit · 13/10/2020 19:44

No I wouldn't use his name. We what's app so he knows it's me why would I say hi...
But the we live together. We do live on 3 storey house so message as I work on ground floor an he works on top floor!

FizzyPink · 13/10/2020 19:45

I tend to get straight to the point but he would call me babe.
He hates when I actually say his name as he says it sounds like he’s in trouble Confused

This would be over text though, I can’t think of a scenario where I’d email him instead

chasingmytail4 · 13/10/2020 19:45

The only time a text from my DH starts with "Hi Chasingmytail" is when he's dictating a text to me using Siri. I can always tell a dictated text because he can't help being more formal.

DarkDisquiet · 13/10/2020 19:46

Most of the time no greeting at all, just the message.

If we're both in good moods, I might preface it with 'Oy Fuckface', he might say 'Oy Bitchface'. These are genuinely playful loving terms of endearment. Does it show we've been together over 20 years? 😂

I don't even say hi. I just say what I gotta say
FoxParty · 13/10/2020 19:47

I don't address him, just go straight into the point of the msg, and no xx at the end either unless he's working anyway then I say goodnight blah blah xx.

gobbynorthernbird · 13/10/2020 19:49

In an email I'd use their name and a greeting. Not in a text/whatsapp/facebook message. Dunno why, maybe it's because I see email as being a bit more formal. This is the same for everyone that I communicate with on more than one platform.

thirstythirsty · 13/10/2020 19:51

I don't address him by name, it seems so strange to do that! Still call each other babe/baby. We still say I love you at the end of every message, it's just habit I think that. We obviously do love each other but we were long distance for a long time and hardly saw each other so was just a thing we did and it's stuck!

EssentialHummus · 13/10/2020 19:52

"Hey [nickname], then lots of x's. And if it's an email I'll always attach a photo of a random slobbery hound. I've no idea how this started and he's no closer to agreeing the purchase of a Rottie.

Fennellathewitch · 13/10/2020 19:53

Nothing but the bare minimum,

Toilet roll.
Have you fed the dog?
Milk.

If I put kisses on he would be very suspicious Smile it usually means can you pick up a bottle of wine, chocolate or random item on the way home!

Justwingingmotherhood · 13/10/2020 20:02

I use his name If I'm pissed off that's about It. He calls me babe or bab.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 13/10/2020 20:02

@workshyfop

I thought it was odd! I wonder why someone would do that with someone they’ve been married to for years?
Are they in The Archers? People in The Archers are forever addressing each other by name for no apparent reason. Most odd.
iklboo · 13/10/2020 20:04

Not usually no. Maybe 'hey' or 'morning' sometimes. If I use his name he'd think he was in trouble. Always kisses. No kisses - he's in trouble Grin

nickelbabe · 13/10/2020 20:05

I find it weird to write dh's name on emails - we only email to forward stuff the other one needs to see, sk no need to say anything.

I rarely put a salutation on emails to friends either

We're the same! No kisses means "I'm mad at you" Grin
