And even more amazing, she’s been seen in my local area.

There are so many videos on my local Facebook group but this is the best photo of her so far (yes it’s female)

It’s amazing thing as it’s only the second one to ever be spotted in the U.K.

Isn’t she beautiful?

Oh how beautiful.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2020 17:21

Aww that’s sad

I love seeing photos and videos of any animals including birds, but I don’t have the patience myself to sit there long enough to take the photo, though it’s something I would love to do

What an uplifting thread - just what I needed - thank you OP Smile

There's a Hoopoe bird around the Leeds area at the moment, lots of photos from locals appearing on facebook, I saw one with around 12 photographers lying on the grass surrounding it! Thankfully it didn't seem bothered by all the attention.

SirGawain · 11/10/2020 17:36

Could it be an escaped bird from a wildlife park or similar?

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 11/10/2020 17:38

This is a lovely thread OP. Since seeing a bird of prey display with my DC in August at Muncaster Castle the whole family have become quite keen on them. Saw some beautiful hooded vultures there and had no idea how endangered they are. DS1 immediately asked to sponsor one for his birthday.

She is known to be a wild bird. Some more info here: www.4vultures.org/bearded-vulture-vigo-left-derbyshire-and-is-heading-south/

Wow. Brilliant!

I absolutely love Hoopoes - I might have to go and visit some Leeds relatives just to have a look!

percheron67 · 11/10/2020 17:53

How wonderful. I do hope she finds a mate/friend.

He was ever so chilled! He's been on a sports pitch feeding ignoring all the kids sting football and the huge crowds checking him out. Sadly my photos were no where as good as the one above!

Aside note, why is twitching such a male pastime? Its always crowds of lone blokes. Are they happier to sit in the grim weather waiting for a glimpse? Loads of women like birds too as this thread shows Smile

musicalfrog · 11/10/2020 18:22

Women are too busy with childcare*. Ever sat in a hide trying to focus binoculars with a couple of toddlers running around behind you? It's not fun!

*big generalisation i know! But it's probably part of the reason.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2020 18:24

Well all the threads on here suggest men are more than happy to fuck go and leave to do their hobbies whenever they fancy so maybe that’s it

Thanks for this thread, OP! We do some bird watching (not twitching though!) , it's amazing seeing big wild birds. Hopefully this one will eventually find her way back 'home' in due course (though not too soon). I always feel quite sorry for the lone birds which have clearly been blown off course and probably won't be able to rejoin their kind.

gingerbreadfox · 11/10/2020 19:00

Wow! That's pretty cool

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 11/10/2020 22:12

Wow! Gorgeous creature.

LuluJakey1 · 11/10/2020 22:15

@Soubriquet

This was taken in Thorney. You can see the large vulture lower down and the smaller red kite above her.

Two beautiful species of bird

What a great photo! I love watching birds.
RevolutionRadio · 11/10/2020 22:41

My friend posted a video of this bird with a magpie the other day 🙂

felineflutter · 11/10/2020 22:48

That is incredible! I am a new to the bird watching. I nearly fell off my chair with excitement when a woodpecker vsited our garden!Grin

FlibbertyGiblets · 11/10/2020 22:57

Gorgeous bird, and the shot with the red kite is astonishing. Thank you Sou.

toffeekiwi · 11/10/2020 22:59

@RHOBHfan

She's only a baby, not ready to pair up and breed yet. Juveniles of the bigger birds of prey often spend their first few years wandering long distances before settling in a suitable territory.

That’s good. I know you shouldn’t assume animals behave and feel like humans (absolutely cannot remember the word) but.... you know...

@RHOBHfan

Wonder how on earth she got here? (I have no idea if they fly long distances but assuming they do and that’s how, I wonder why no others do and what made her do it?)

She’s gorgeous.... do birds get lonely though?

Lol, my Facebook has also been inundated with photos of her this weekend. Must live near OP.
