Do you bathe children with a cold?

Hello

My 5 year old is a bit snotty and pale, bunged up.

Should I be bathing him? He probably could do with it, but would it make him feel worse? Or make his cold worse?

Heard conflicting things

Thank you !

Curious... I bathe my snotty child more than usual. One of us will normally try and have our daily shower at the same time so the room gets steamy!

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 16:11

Steam from the bath might help clear his nose if he's bunged up

slipperywhensparticus · 11/10/2020 16:12

Yes of course you bathe them being dirty and feeling poorly helps no one having a steamy bath helps ease the congestion

Definitely!

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 16:12

You can get olbas bubble bath that helps clear noses too

Suckmuckduck · 11/10/2020 16:13

If they’re really poorly and crying then no. If it’s just a cold then yes.

Orchidflower1 · 11/10/2020 16:15

Yes- have a shower and clean clothes always helps me unless I’m ill enough to be in bed.

As pp have said the steam will help.

Artesia · 11/10/2020 16:16

Am genuinely mystified - how would it make him feel worse? I’ve never thought about not bathing mine because of a cold- I would have thought it would make him feel clean and fresh, and the steam would help clear his nose

lazylinguist · 11/10/2020 16:17

I can't imagine how it could be bad for someone with a cold. What have you heard it does? And yes, the steam can be great for blocked noses.

Bubbles120 · 11/10/2020 16:17

Yes steam helps along with asda vapour bath.

ChalkDinosaur · 11/10/2020 16:18

Yes, I think the steam helps. Obviously make sure they don't get cold/shivery afterwards but I think the bath itself seems to help.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/10/2020 16:20

I would put them in the bath because the steam can help and a bath is generally soothing but I wouldn't demand they had a bath if they were tired and cranky with it all.

Veterinari · 11/10/2020 16:21

Why wouldn't you? Confused

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2020 16:23

Yes, a gentle warm bath always makes mine feel a bit better even if it's tiring for them. Feeling fresh in clean pjs after is nice.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 11/10/2020 16:24

First thing I do when I am poorly is run a bat. It helps me relax and any aches are eased, even if it is very slight. So have never questioned bathing my kids when they have a cold. I would keep the rooms warm though, it is never fun feeling cold after a bath. Nice warm pjs and a hot chocolate is a must in our home when the children are poorly.

diddl · 11/10/2020 16:48

When I was a kid with a cold it was often a warm bath just before bed, then straight into a warm bed!

Unless he's feeling really tired/ill & would benefit more by resting in bed-but even then it wouldn't harm him!

Who on earth has been saying this?

LienD · 11/10/2020 16:51

So this is the first time in 5 years he has a cold? Impressive!

Audreyseyebrows · 11/10/2020 16:53

That was my first thought!

Bizarre!

Sexnotgender · 11/10/2020 16:56

Definitely!! Make him all warm and cosy. Why would it make him worse?

SillyCow6 · 11/10/2020 16:57

Unless you live in a very cold house and so long as he's well enough for a bath then a nice warm bath and wrapped in a big fluffy towel after is lovely. But if he is headachey and feeling rotten then maybe he wouldnt want to strip off

BewilderedDoughnut · 11/10/2020 17:06

What a weird question.

wavecatcher · 11/10/2020 17:06

Well of course! I love a nice warm bath when I'm unwell, wouldn't you. Why ever would you not?

tigger001 · 11/10/2020 17:07

Yes ,the steam helps and you can buy Albas oil bubble bath to help a little too.

tigger001 · 11/10/2020 17:08

I do pop the heating on a little though the get it a bit toasty, but I doubt that's necessary think thats just me BlushBlush

HelloDulling · 11/10/2020 17:09

Warm bath, soft flannel to de-snot face, wrap in biggest towel then cuddle up in the bed before getting dressed and Calpoled.
