Inspired by hearing this on a podcast, but now I can’t actually think of mine!

@coronafiona

MiL: put salt on your birth wounds. Me: No. That was that!
Did she mean saline solution? So salt well diluted in boiled water and cooled? If so then that isn't shit advice. Saline is used as an antiseptic and is a pretty good one.

If she meant put salt on neat with no water, that would be rather painful and best avoided for that reason. It is still a cleaner and antiseptic though.

So many gems from my father, but the most recent was for me and dd to sort out a petty playground squabble by beating up the other child and mother. He was not joking.

That if I kept on eating poppyseed bread during pregnancy my baby would be born with a heroin addiction Confused

To feed my 4 week-old baby baby rice to fatten him up and make him sleep. He's now a perfectly healthy 10yo who has never had baby rice in his life.

That divorcing my abusive husband was a mistake. It wasn't.

@clumsyv

MIL- you should cut the Lo's onesies by the ankles so he could wear it next year too and it will save us buying new ones🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I think posters querying why this is daft advice are missing the 'next year' part, as though babies get bigger just by growing longer legs. The chest circumference, shoulder width, arms and body length of an 18 month old toddler might have something to say about wearing a sleepsuit designed for a 6 month old baby!

I was pregnant at eighteen and concerned about telling my parents. My boyfriend’s mum told me to tell them I would have an abortion if they said anything I didn’t like and it’d be their fault. That was when I realised that I was more mature than many of the adults around me even though I was a pregnant teenager. Terrifying.

@Fionasmammy

Oh and weight falls off when breastfeeding. Some women on here say this is true but it wasnt for me so im putting it down as shit advice.
😂 That one didn't work for me either I was constantly starving and exhausted with all 3 (still glad I did it, but it was harder work for me than being heavily pregnant).
nicecoffeecup · 11/10/2020 13:39

financially, advice I was given re buying bank shares a long while back.

WhatzTheCraic · 11/10/2020 13:42

I can't think of one, but some of these are absolutely shocking. Blimey!

Fifthtimelucky · 11/10/2020 14:02

@HollowTalk

To take out an interest only mortgage.
Same here, though I suppose it might have been good advice at the time.

He's now a perfectly healthy 10yo who has never had baby rice in his life.. Baby rice is just powdered rice. I wouldn’t feed any solids at that age but rice is just ric.Confused
