Do you ever buy something to please your 13 year old self?

I was out shopping today and saw a pair of tailored going out shorts which are almost completely identical to a pair I had when I was 13. I thought I was the bee's knees in my smart shorts, leggings, ballet flats and plastic jewellery Grin

I haven't a clue where I'm going to wear them but my inner 13 year old self is so giddy with joy that I can wear them with BARE LEGS and high heels if I like Grin My mum would never have let me out like that!

Point Horror and Bunty/Judy/Mandy Picture Story Library books

I bought a pen with my name on at LEGOLAND a few years back, because my name was super unusual when I was a child so I never had anything with my name on it. Now it's a bit more common for little girls, so I can get named stuff, I occasionally indulge my inner nine year old.

I bought rimmel 'Heather shimmer' lipstick last month.

No idea why, it looked awful on me, just nostalgia I think!

Point Horror are the books, I've been revisiting! I had a huge collection when I was 12-14 then sold them to a local market stall. I'm now working on rebuilding my collection. I've found the quality of the store varies a lot but a lot of my old favourites are still fairly readable!

Tickets to a-ha concerts. I couldn’t afford it when I was a tween/teen. So over the last few years I’ve been to see them several times, and splurged on front row seats.

I managed to get 30 Enid Blyton books on our local Freecycle Facebook page recently and am thoroughly enjoying reading through them.

I asked for a pair of Reebok classics (and got them) for my recent birthday, my 13 year old self would be so envious as my parents would never buy them for me.

Imissmoominmama · 11/10/2020 19:56

I bought a ticket to see ELO for £180 (my parents wouldn’t let me go when I was 12). I buy vinyl records all the time, and am saving for a really good system (I bought one at 16, but gave it to my brother when I bought a CD player 🤦‍♀️). I’ve just ordered some bright yellow trainers- my favourite childhood shoes were hand-me-down yellow mules.

If I could get a Wrangler, Spirit of 76 sweatshirt, I’d be the happiest 50 something ever! Grin

Yes! I bought some Buffalo shoes just before a gig, as being 5ft nothing I thought the extra height would be great. They are so comfy and much nicer than the cheap knock offs I had in the 90s.
I'm 42.Blush

Maltesers and Cadburys Whole Nut. I was a child during sweet rationing.

LyndzB · 11/10/2020 20:07

Buffy the Vampire Slayer boxset 😂

Bellie99 · 11/10/2020 20:09

Foam banana and fizzy cola bottles in my pick and mix only.

Imissmoominmama · 11/10/2020 20:47

Oh, and I’ve just bought a Moomin keyring and book from Oxfam.

Burnshersmurfs · 11/10/2020 21:22

Funny you should mention it, I’ve just bought 2m of Finsbay tweed so I can recreate a jacket I loved when I was 14.

OhamIreally · 12/10/2020 14:35

Yes I bought a soda stream. Wanted one desperately as a kid so bought one for a big birthday for myself.
Now I can "get busy with the fizzy" Grin

tectonicplates · 12/10/2020 14:37

I have been known to buy a piece of clothing that's clubwear I would've worn when I was about twenty years old. It hung in my cupboard for a year, then I sold it Grin

Sillydoggy · 12/10/2020 14:42

I bought hair crimpers for my daughters, honest. I was an 80’s teen and never had them.

inchyra · 12/10/2020 15:30

Bought an original set of Malory Towers books when DD started watching it on CBBC. I’d only read a couple of them as a kid, but never the whole lot, and it was brilliant to go through the school journey. Very comforting reading during lockdown as it just reminded me of being a child, safe and cosy in bed with my parents downstairs watching Terry & June Grin.

Contemplating doing the same with the Swallows and Amazons and Chalet School but there are so many of them it could bankrupt me.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 12/10/2020 17:00

I recently “treated” myself to a set of pastel highlighters, some metallic sharpies and FOUR blocks of neon post-it notes.

My 13 year old would have been well impressed!

35andThriving · 13/10/2020 12:31

Also, my stationey habbit is probably to do with satisfying my inner child! Smile

PenguindreamsofDraco · 13/10/2020 12:44

I sometimes buy stuff for my son which are totally daft just because the other kids have them (trading cards, random bits of plastic tat).

13yo me was desperate to fit in and have a very specific pair of dark brown Russell and Bromley Chelsea boots. I had to get the cheaper shit-brown FHW pair on the lie promise that with dark shoe polish they'd look the same.

So sometimes I buy stuff so he can fit in just to soothe my tortured inner 13 yo still smarting after 35 years at just how crap the FHW ones were

letsgomaths · 13/10/2020 12:58

Another vote for Reebok Classics. I wore them without socks too, as I would have loved to do age 13.

Sairafina · 13/10/2020 13:02

I ordered a crepe last week with nutella AND chocolate sauce 😋 9 year old me was in heaven!

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 13/10/2020 13:03

I'm not even that mature. I asked for a She-Ra or Fragile Rock tshirt and some Lego for my birthday, and got them. My inner 6 year old was thrilled.

aToadOnTheWhole · 13/10/2020 14:25

I had mini kievs, curly fries and onion rings for my dinner yesterday which pleased my inner child hugely. Followed it up with a sherbet dipdab. I prefer proper kali with a licorice wand but I didn't have any in Grin

I'm having a clear out and found a dress.ive had since I was 17 (I'm 34) It's fabulous. If I could even get it over my fat and pregnant arse then I'd still look like a cooked ham in it. I have no idea why I've kept it all these years. But I'm not getting rid of it!
