The night before so it's a surprise for DS. Did it for the first time last year and DS (and DH) loved it so I'll be getting the decorations out and doing it again. We'll do a pumpkin hunt dressed up and then have a picky tea and watch Hocus Pocus or something.

Craft wise we'll probably just make a giant sparkly pumpkin to put in the window for the pumpkin hunt. And carve a pumpkin.

My family never "did" Halloween so it's all new to me but DS seems to really enjoy the spooky aspect of things and to be honest, any glimmer of fun at the minute is a welcome break 🎃🦇🧙

I don’t.

To be honest, seeing all the disposable tat in the supermarket makes me feel a bit depressed. More landfill fodder, more plastic destined to hang around on this planet for god knows how long.

@Viv0321

Does anyone do any crafts? Looking for ideas Smile

I bought a load of kit stuff from baker Ross and my mum sent me a link to apple printing that looks like pumpkins.

I bought most of our decorations when we moved here 10 years ago. They get reused every year so things aren’t necessarily thrown away.

On the day, I've never been big on Halloween so I only do it for my DC because they enjoy it

Everything decorations wise I have was bought last year, taken down and stored and I'll use again this year and maybe add a few bits. DSs halloween "costume" is a hoody and trackies with a pattern on and will be used till he grows out of them. I aim to keep things as sustainable as possible.

We usually have a Halloween party but will still decorate the house this year, although probably not to the usual scale (I really go to town, changing photos we have around the house to 'creepy' victorian portraits, etc.).

We will decorate a week before. I don't use anything that will 'end up in a landfill' as I reuse decorations that we have had for years. We'll put a big skeleton outside the front door, and I really enjoy carving pumpkins and I love the autumnal feel they give to the house when they are lit at night.

In the house I hang pumpkin lights around the fireplace and nearer the time the dogs will get dressed up on a Halloween outfit.

DH and I LOVE Halloween as you can probably tell Grin

About 10 days beforehand. We've got as many Halloween decorations now as Christmas ones. Can't wait!

Normally the day before or on the day depending on what we're doing a and finding the time. I'm tempted to do it a bit earlier this year, generally our neighbourhood starts decorating the week of Halloween.

No 'landfill fodder' here. I've had most of my Halloween decorations for years and add to it every year. We also do a lot of crafts which I hang on to and put up every year - masks, wreaths, garlands etc. We love it in this house!

People use the tat argument as a way to get at people. If they celebrate Christmas, and decorate, the shops are also full of tat at Christmas. Does that mean they decorate their houses with landfill tat? Probably not.

Christmas is even worse for novelty stuff that gets bought as stocking fillers and decorations, gets broken or discarded by new year and ends up in the bin. Yes most people reuse the same decorations year in year out; but an awful lot don’t.

@burglarbettybaby please can I ask where you got white pumpkins from? I searched everywhere last year. I'm wanting one to go on my Baby's memorial

We decorate the day before and take down the day after.

Lozz mine were real ones from aldi but I seen small white ones on amazon or people often craft a plastic orange pumpkin with chalk paint if you like crafting. Sorry for your loss

@burglarbettybaby Thank you I'll have a look in aldi and amazon then. And thank you

I've never really done Halloween so have never decorated or "celebrated" it other than kids dressing up for school parties.

There are some houses with stuff up around here already though.

@Pumpkinpied that looks so pretty! I have the same Cornishware crockery.

@Pumpkinpied that's lovely my dd has the same bee cushion.
Dd and I are decorating for Halloween next Saturday a bit earlier than usual but with Covid we thought it would cheer us up😊
I have loads of decorations that I store and add to each year. We also do a pumpkin carving evening but that will be a few days before the 31st because they turn to mush so quickly. I don't suppose anyone knows a trick to make them last longer?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/10/2020 08:42

We don't. We just put a spinning colourful bulb in the ceiling light.

I've done the autumnal decorations already but the scary stuff will go up next weekend! I bought a ghoul and he is sort of up already as we don't have anywhere to put him but all the other bits go up next week :D i love it so much!
