If you're teetotal, how do you treat yourself at the end of the day?

I want to cut down on my drinking. Since lockdown started, I've been drinking 4-5 nights a week. I'm not addicted, it's mostly out of boredom. Sad

Anyway, I am determined to get my drinking down to once a week. Any tips?

I treated myself to a Coca Cola tonight, which did work.

Any other ideas? Smile

Seedlip & tonic with lots of ice & lime in a fancy glass - I almost convince myself it’s as nice as a G&T!

Elderflower and tonic, or tonic and bitters (or the posh tonics from fever tree when they're on offer).

Essential to: 1. Add ice. 2. Put in a really nice glass and 3. Garnish properly - depending what I have in and the tunic choice it could be any of: lemon, lime, mint, very thinly sliced cucumber, raspberries from the freezer, occasionally thyme (obviously not all at once).

Part of the joy of a drink is the rituals: getting the bottles out, picking a nice glass, cracking the ice out the tray, careful pouring, adding the garnish, sitting down, breathing in and then finally taking your relaxing sip. The trick is in recreating that without the booze. I was unhappily tea total due to stomach problems for years so am well versed in what's required.

Sometimes I also do it with posh lemonade or even fizzzy water, or elderflower cordial - the ritual of it is what's important.

Once I get the baby to bed and tidy up the kitchen, I love making a good cup of coffee, popping on my headphones for a podcast and knit.

Biscuits

BewilderedDoughnut · 09/10/2020 23:19

PJs, snacks and Netflix. Nobody should be ‘treating’ themselves everyday with alcohol. That’s crazy!

Beautiful3 · 09/10/2020 23:20

I dont drink alcohol. My treats are hot chocolates made with milk, or pepsi max. Tend to save these drinks for Friday-Sunday, one a day.

Kira7 · 09/10/2020 23:21

I'm teetotal but it's mostly because I don't like the taste of alcohol.

If it's cold, I'll have fruit teas and a sweet snack (chocolate, flap jacks, slice of cake but today was feeling healthy so had an apple). I'd love a coffee but I get insomnia so can't drink caffeine after 4pm.

If it's hot, I'll have a smoothie or chocolate/strawberry milk like a kid Grin You could maybe try mocktails?

GunsAndShips · 09/10/2020 23:25

I don't treat myself at the end of the day either. I don't feel the need. I suppose it's doing something that makes you happy or helps you relax I suppose? I don't do that with food/drink. I read, do puzzles, watch a documentary/film, listen to a podcast, draw, write, sew etc.

wheresmymojo · 09/10/2020 23:33

A really nice Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate made in their velvetiser

sassafras123 · 09/10/2020 23:35

Cacao yummy warming and good for what ails you .

Hollywhiskey · 09/10/2020 23:38

Chocolate, Diet Coke, cake, a run or gym session, a long hot bath with a book

just5morepeas · 09/10/2020 23:40

I'd try not to make it all food/drink related or you could be swapping one problem for another.

How about a long bubble bath or a home manicure or that type of thing? Or find a new book/film/tv show to watch.

moonsnow · 09/10/2020 23:40

Cup of tea and a nice biscuit. I've never been a drinker.

Franticbutterfly · 09/10/2020 23:47

In the summer I like Elderflower tonic, in winter Tea or occasionally hot chocolate.

mumwon · 09/10/2020 23:51

Twinnings decaf earl grey with a biscuit or 3

augustusglupe · 09/10/2020 23:52

Tea and a few rich tea biscuits

SageRosemary · 09/10/2020 23:57

A splash of elderflower cordial topped up with slimline tonic.

TheVanguardSix · 10/10/2020 00:17

San Pellegrino sparkling water with Rocks lemon squash.
Or a cup of earl grey. Mostly earl grey or Barry's tea.

TBHno · 10/10/2020 14:01

Lots of yummy and sensible suggestions. Thank you all Smile

I rarely drink. What is really fun is getting a juicer. I usually make one unusual juice a week.

Frozen grapes are a nice snack too.

safariboot · 10/10/2020 14:24

Sitting on the sofa seeing what's on the telly. And having a cup of tea, but I drink tea all day long.

mashainpink · 10/10/2020 14:30

Not 100% teetotal but I never drink at home/have alcohol in the house.

My choice is chocolate!

QueenOllie · 10/10/2020 14:40

I rarely drink. Mine is a bath, pjs, hot chocolate and an episode of whatever I'm enjoying watching, and a scented candle

rorosemary · 10/10/2020 15:06

I don't replace it because it's simply not on my mind. I mostly drink water. Maybe a cup or two of tea a week. I don't really like other drinks.

So not helpful to you, but an honest answer by someone who doesn't drink alcohol.

Plussizejumpsuit · 10/10/2020 15:08

I'm not tee total but don't drink much. I have a nice dinner, some chocolate or a nice soft drink.
