If you're teetotal, how do you treat yourself at the end of the day?

I want to cut down on my drinking. Since lockdown started, I've been drinking 4-5 nights a week. I'm not addicted, it's mostly out of boredom. Sad

Anyway, I am determined to get my drinking down to once a week. Any tips?

I treated myself to a Coca Cola tonight, which did work.

Any other ideas? Smile

A nice cup of tea and the warm feeling that I won’t be hungover in the morning. Can’t beat it 😊

@Laufeythejust

I’m not teetotal but rarely drink. My treat at the end of each night is Pepsi max, from a can too so it feels extra decadent Grin
I love a Pepsi Max, loving the cherry flavour at the minute 😋

I found that it's the tinkle of ice that says "adult beverage" for me. I make peppermint tea in the morning and stick it in the fridge, I have it over three large ice cubes in the evening.

No hangover! That is good motivation!

Nice hot chocolate made with milk, I don't like having a cup of tea any later than 4/5pm, so that's my go-to choice for a warm drink.
Apple juice, or Volvic touch of fruit are both nice the second is nice for flavour without being over sweet. I'm not really keen on anything fizzy.

Eating crisps, cheese, a square of chocolate or two.

This website sells just alcohol free drinks. Quite a good choice I thought especially beers but maybe also fruity ciders for you?

Glass bottle of ice cold Diet Coke.

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 09/10/2020 22:20

I have a pepsi max in the evenings as my treat x

Iggly · 09/10/2020 22:24

I remind myself that the feeling I have when I drink is just my brain being relieved at feeding its addiction to booze. It’s not really a reward as such.

However sometimes that’s too lofty 😂 I have to distract myself or make a nice hot drink and know the next morning I’ll not be groggy.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/10/2020 22:25

Cup of tea 👌

lazylinguist · 09/10/2020 22:26

I don't really. I just do what I'd normally do but without drinking! Nice dinner, something good on Netflix etc (and knit, which I can'tdo after a coupleof drinks!). I don't really like fizzy drinks or sweet drinks etc, so I drink water or tea. I don't tend to snack in the evening either- it's just not a habit I ever got into.

Lazysundayafternoons · 09/10/2020 22:26

Decaf coffee - I find it nice and warm and calming

MadCatLady71 · 09/10/2020 22:41

Seedlip and Fever Tree tonic
Virgin mojito
Tea pig teas

Also -
Cadbury Chocolate Fingers
Magnums

I’ve been alcohol-free for just over two years and it is most definitely the best decision I ever made.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 09/10/2020 22:47

Shamelessly following! My weekly wine intake is Blush to say the least. But the idea of water or squash at the end of a long day at work doesn't fill me with joy.

I like the belvouir raspberry lemonade and the Tesco version, but theyre pretty pricey for what you actually get

Flupibass · 09/10/2020 22:48

Green tea, fever tree ginger tonic light, I’ve just bought some Horlicks as a friend said they drink that but not sure yet if I’ll like it.
That’s about it for drinks in the evening.

CostaCosta · 09/10/2020 22:49

Tea!

AliasGrape · 09/10/2020 22:50

Not tea total but drink quite rarely these days, if I feel like I need a treat in beverage form l like the cawston press rhubarb and apple drinks or there’s a nice cucumber one too. Or hot chocolate. Sometimes a nice cup of tea can feel like a treat, I like to try different ‘fancy’ herbal teas (my younger self is rolling her eyes so hard at me right now).

Biscuits, my biscuit habit is worse than my drinking ever was really.

A bath.

Cuddle the baby or the dog, occasionally even the DH.

planplan · 09/10/2020 22:51

Never been of a drinker maybe a couple of glasses of wine every couple of months.

Chocolate is my problem and food in general - I comfort eat when sad and eat celebrate when happy!

Sleeplessnights1234 · 09/10/2020 22:52

I'm not teetotal but very rarely drink. Just not fussed for it since having DS. Normally have a cup of tea before bed.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 09/10/2020 22:53

Most alcoholic drinks have loads of sugar, so something sugary is surprisingly effective at quashing the urge for a glass of wine

roarfeckingroarr · 09/10/2020 23:00

Heineken 0% is wholly drinkable

bitheby · 09/10/2020 23:01

I don't treat myself at the end of the day. Is this a thing? I'm TTC so not drinking. I treat myself by going to bed and doing a sudoku (rock and roll lifestyle).

Ylvamoon · 09/10/2020 23:01

I second herbal tea! I have a small selection... (Peach & Orange, Apple & Cinnamon, Red Berry, Lemon & Ginger ...) part of the fun is to choose which one to have! Then brew it in my favourite cup ☕!
Sit down, relax and enjoy!!

UrbanDox · 09/10/2020 23:01

No one said Nix And Kix range yet... no added sugar, 50cal. I don't like drinks with artificial sweeteners. Mango and ginger with a pinch of cayenne!

Asterion · 09/10/2020 23:03

When I stopped drinking I was worried about how I would treat myself at the end of the day, what would I have to look forward to?

But, a few months in, my mindset has totally changed. It's not about treats any more, as such. But I do like a sudoku to "turn off" the day Smile
