When will I not be over the limit to drive? 😳

Drank an inordinate amount of wine with my friend yesterday, we were celebrating my new job and him not having the C after a nasty scare.
He just kept buying more and I was too stupid to say I'd had enough.

Kids were safe and sound with DH.

I'm worried I'm still over the limit this morning to drive despite having stopped drinking at 6pm.

I have a day off but need to drive this morning but want to make sure I'm safe.

How long does it take?!

Please no flaming, I'm suitably embarrassed already.

7 or 8 Medium pub glasses of wine is more than a bottle and a half. And the OP feels like crap. And her job depends on her being able to drive. She should not drive any where this morning, ideally not today.

Audreyseyebrows · 05/10/2020 08:47

I wouldn’t but I’m probably over cautious.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 05/10/2020 08:51

Do you have one of those AA emergency kits in the boot? If so, there might be a breathalyzer in there because you need them in France and they've been a standard inclusion for about 4-5 years. You might just be able to test yourself to make sure.

Gazelda · 05/10/2020 08:51

Is there really no alternative to driving this morning? Walk, taxi, bus? Or postpone until tomorrow?

If you think you'll technically be ok at 11, what if you've miscalculated? What if you're feeling so rough that your reactions are slower than usual?

Oncemorewithfeelin · 05/10/2020 08:52

It’s 1.4l of wine, which is closer to 2 bottles. OP use the online calculator to see when you should be ok to drive. Assess how you feel at that time you may technically be under the limit but still feel unsafe to drive.

AltoCation · 05/10/2020 08:57

That calculator is an eye opener!

Best not to drive when groggy with a hangover.

DilynTheDog · 05/10/2020 08:58

"I know we had 4 glasses of wine in the first pub and maybe 3 in the next. Medium size. But I'm calculating it as 4 in the next pub to be extra safe."

If you had 8 medium sized glasses of wine, that is approximately 2.67 bottles of wine.

How many units depend on the strength of the wine, each glass would be about 3 units.

I make it about 24 units, so I'd not drive until that length of time had passed.

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 05/10/2020 08:58

I'm getting a taxi.

I just don't feel great, and even if it's out my system I still feel shit.

There's no way I drank 2.6 bottles of wine.

Absolutely no way on earth.

I would die.

This is the best decision. I think if you need to question it, you shouldn't be driving.

Incorrect. Medium glasses in pubs are 175ml.

175ml x8 = 1400ml.

A bottle of wine is 750ml. So it's just under 2 bottles.

Procrastination4 · 05/10/2020 09:03

Good decision, OP. Congratulations on your new job!

Savemyusername · 05/10/2020 09:04

I have worked out that one unit an hour calculation and I have still felt pissed when I am supposedly ok to drive. I don’t rely on that at all. Best not to drive I would say, and certainly not this morning.

Oncemorewithfeelin · 05/10/2020 09:04

@DilynTheDog medium glasses are 175ml, you have calculated it as large glasses which are 250ml

mrsm43s · 05/10/2020 09:07

You didn't. PP has done her maths wrong.

You drank 7 or 8 x 175ml glasses which is between 1.225 litres and 1.4 litres. Each bottle of wine is 0.75 litres, so you drank somewhere between a bottle and a half and two bottles.

Personally I wouldn't drive today, especially if you feel rough.

Spam88 · 05/10/2020 09:10

I want to drink in Dilyn's pub Grin

DilynTheDog · 05/10/2020 09:12

Oh, ok. I assumed that a medium glass would be a 250ml.
Then it would be 18 hours.

GreyishDays · 05/10/2020 09:13

@DilynTheDog

Oh, ok. I assumed that a medium glass would be a 250ml. Then it would be 18 hours.
What would a large glass be then? Grin
rwalker · 05/10/2020 09:16

Too hard to work out and theres loads of things that can affect it give it a miss till tomorrow.

Frownette · 05/10/2020 09:16

@Spam88 Grin

I wanted to put my stats in but I didn't drink yesterday.

OP what time have you got to be there? How much would a taxi cost?

Frownette · 05/10/2020 09:17

Actually you'd feel rough anyway, try to rearrange

Oncemorewithfeelin · 05/10/2020 09:18

@DilynTheDog, you must pour glasses of wine like my mum. I would say yes to a small glass of wine, she would give me a small glass filled to the brim!

DilynTheDog · 05/10/2020 09:19

Oncemore- nah, I just drink it out of the bottle. One bottle = one unit, right? Smile

BoggledBudgie · 05/10/2020 09:20

You got the fear today OP? Grin congrats on your new job and your friend being cancer free!

Clymene · 05/10/2020 09:23

THE OP HAS SAID SHE'S GETTING A TAXI
