For love nor money cannot find kitchen hand towels

Do they still exist? Went to Dunelm and various large supermarkets - they only seem to sell tea towels.

Did kitchen hand towels stop being a 'thing'? How do people dry their hands?

I ended up buying a bathroom hand towel, but it's far too big for kitchen use really.

Please could someone direct me to some online? I've been searching half an hour and feel like I'm cracking up!

@missmouse101

I have the old fashioned kitchen towel loop on a wooden roller to dry hands. All these people drying their hands on a tea towel, yuk! Tea towel is ONLY to dry clean dishes. Even things from the dishwasher have drippy bottoms sometimes and need drying. It's revolting to use something that people have wiped their hands on.
Yes, agree!
SadiePurple · 04/10/2020 22:14

here

Bikingbear · 04/10/2020 22:16

Someone mentioned dishes aren't sterile, actually if they've been steam dried in a dishwasher they are sterile.

However it's still a bit yuk to dry hands on the same towel as the dishes. I'm sure you aren't wiping your hands all over the dishes when you put them away.

movingonup20 · 04/10/2020 22:22

Isn't that what tea towels are forGrin

Clymene · 04/10/2020 22:22

I get mine in France 😂

Cheeeeislifenow · 04/10/2020 22:25

What???

This is what a tea towel is for no? Do you have two towels? And as above your hands are the same size wether in the bathroom not kitchen? I am stumped!!

Like this Douceur d 'Intérieur – Round – 60 cm (0. Sponge Cuistot, Taupe, 60 X 60 CM Cotton https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079S6ZJDR/ref=cmswwrcppapifabb_a3JEFbKW9KCZ1

No. Tea towels are for drying dishes. You have a separate towelling towel for hands

Time2change2 · 04/10/2020 22:30

People are so OTT. Drying your clean hands on the tea towel is fine esp if you have a dishwasher. The only dishes I need to dry is occasionally the bottom of a plastic bowl or similar but even then I often put plastic on the drying rack. Everything else comes out bone dry! I might mop up some water with it from the surface I guess but it is not revolting to dry clean hands on it.
So many people completely over the top with germs- does you no favours in the end

Cheeeeislifenow · 04/10/2020 22:30

Lol @missmouse what a huge overreaction! People change the tea towel very regularly and with a dishwasher it s kind of redundant anyways 😀

Belindabelle · 04/10/2020 22:31

I have two towels in the kitchen. A tea towel which must be the cotton/linen no pile variety, and a hand towel which is towelling material but not as plush as a bathroom hand towel.

LooksBetterWithAFaceMask · 04/10/2020 22:33

I bought a pack of IKEA wash cloths for the kitchen. They have a coloured tag on the corner so I hang it up behind the door. Perfect size for just drying your hands in the kitchen.

I never put drinking glasses in the dishwasher nor my special pans, so my tea towel is used for drying every day.

Like a PP, I buy normal hand towels, cut them in half and hem the edges. Takes about five minutes to make two hand towels.

Ginkypig · 04/10/2020 22:44

I have just naturally unconsciously designated a certain few that helpfully look different from the rest that just seem to just work better at drying hands? I can’t explain it better than that! They hang on the back of the kitchen door and are only allowed to be used for drying hands, there are normally two others around the kitchen for other things but the one on the back of the door is only for hands!
But I haven’t been able to find others that feel the same so I’m not sure what I will replace them with.
They are still tea towels though I think, I’ve never heard of an actual kitchen hand towel.

fizzandchips · 04/10/2020 22:51

TK Maxx/Homesense always have them. Especially love it when they have cheap Ralph Lauren ones.

Bargebill19 · 04/10/2020 22:52

Plenty on amazon. Although we use bar towels with a hanging loop attached.

YorkshireParentalPerson · 04/10/2020 22:55

I've just bought a load of guest towels from Dunelm, perfect size for a kitchen hand towel.

MaggieFS · 04/10/2020 23:02

M&S guest towels... about the same size as a tea towels. I have ones which aren't fluffy so not like bath towels and have a distinctive striped pattern so even DH can't claim to not know which are hand towels and which are tea towels.

Mamagotskills · 04/10/2020 23:10

I’ve learned way more than expected on this thread (I just use tea towel) but I have a question... why do guests get smaller towels? Full size guests I’m assuming? Had no idea a guest towel was a thing

Varjakpaw · 04/10/2020 23:12

We have good ones from Hema - they have a hanging ribbon on them too, so just perfect.

Batfinklestein · 04/10/2020 23:16

I buy the guest towels from H&M for use as bathroom and kitchen hand towels. I didn’t know there was a difference.

QuestionableMouse · 04/10/2020 23:17

@Winter2019

I just use tea towels for drying my hands in the kitchen 🤷‍♀️
Same!

But I have a huge stack and wash them frequently.

This is why I love Mumsnet. The 'guest towel' of 40cm x 60cm is perfect for the kitchen. They are tea towel sized but fluffier, perfect for drying hands. Here's the M&S link if anyone else was on an elusive 'kitchen hand towel' search. www.marksandspencer.com/MSFindItemsByKeyword?searchTerm=hand%20guest%20towel

Hallelujah. (I found some on Amazon too, as others also suggested.)
