Toddler - good thick winter pjamas

Panda368 · 04/10/2020 19:01

We have a cold house and my almost 2 year old needs some pjamas - ideally nice thick fleecy ones as hes started to reject his sleeping bag in favour of his duvet but then wakes up cold at 3 or 4am everything I've looked at online looks like thin cotton.

Currently the house is getting down to about 16 on cold mornings bit will go to 10ish when it gets really cold as we dont tend to put the heating on overnight.

Any ideas?

I bought thick cotton pyjamas for my two young ones from Primark. Cheap, but good quality. They were tied with a coloured ribbon.

Tuck a sheet or blanket across the bed and under the mattress over where his legs should be. It will keep the duvet on the bed but still allow him to push it off if he's too hot.
No idea about pjs!

Next fleecy onesies with normal PJs under Smile

That’s freezing. I’d just have the heating on at night and failing that would do normal PJs with a onesie over.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 04/10/2020 19:22

Vests underneath normal pyjamas

Kidssendingmenuts · 04/10/2020 19:26

Asda do some nice fluffy pyjamas.

Also dunhelm do teddy bear duvet covers which are nice and fluffy, stick a feather duvet in there too and he will be toasty all night! Mine love them.

letsmaketea · 04/10/2020 19:26

This isn't what you asked, but we had the same problem and got a small oil filled electric radiator for DDs room, which has a thermostat and so we can leave it on all night.

peachypetite · 04/10/2020 19:28

Bloody hell why not leave the heating on low?

Madmoxxi · 04/10/2020 19:30

I brought some super fluffy one's from b&m today for my 2 year old but she also wears thick tracksuit bottoms and cardies when it gets super cold.

CornishTiger · 04/10/2020 19:30

Primark was where I used to get flannelette pjs for my smalls.

We don’t have the heating on overnight either but house isn’t particularly cold and we are in the south.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2020 19:31

I noticed they had fleecy and velvor pj's on m&s website. I only looked at the girls stuff but I'm sure they'll do similar for boys

eggontoast2 · 04/10/2020 19:34

Pjs under fleecy onesie. Next have some amazing thick onesies in at the moment. When it's really cold you can layer with a thermal under the pjs.

Mylittlepony374 · 04/10/2020 19:35

Merino wool pjs. Bit expensive but they last. My 3 year old wore hers for about 2 years and now her brothers wearing them. I buy from Babu or Buck and Baa.

TweeBree · 04/10/2020 19:36

M&S did lovely fleece onesies last year.

Shantotto · 04/10/2020 19:36

I get fleecy pyjamas for DS from Lands End. They always seem to have big sales on so sign up to the mailing list of there not one on currently!

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/10/2020 19:37

Asda do fantastic thick fleece ones for only £7.

CornishTiger · 04/10/2020 19:39

Synthetic fleeces aren't breathable and can increase the baby's risk of overheating in their sleep. Overheating has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Great for lounging around but not overnight sleeping

Lightupgin · 04/10/2020 19:39

Next currently have thermal pyjamas. Primark fleecy ones are also very warm

Votesforpedro · 04/10/2020 19:40

M&S do thermal skinny fit pj's, I find these keep the heat in better than the baggier fit ones

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/10/2020 19:41

@CornishTiger op's child is 2 and her house is cold...

EachPeachPearSums · 04/10/2020 19:41

Not cheap but lasts years. Those are outside camping temperatures so you're going to have to dress him accordingly. The merino wool will breath and is less likely to make him feel too hot. At 10 I'd put a vest, merino base layers and then the merino sleeping sack with feet over it all.

motherone · 04/10/2020 19:43

I always worry about my boy being cold he's 3 and he has a 4 tog duvet and vest socks and pjs and I'm freezing he's usually sweating lol just depends on the baby

Feckthisshit2020 · 04/10/2020 19:44

Have you thought about an electric blanket?

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/10/2020 19:45

@Feckthisshit2020 not good advice for a 2 year old! Hmm

HoneyBee03 · 04/10/2020 19:51

We don't have heating and our windows are single glazed so our house is freezing in the winter. We got 2 year old DS some fleece pyjamas from Matalan last year, and managed to get hold of a 9 tog toddler duvet from a friend (they're usually only 4.5 tog). We tuck the duvet down the side of the mattress and he soon figured out that he can pull it up if he's cold. We also got a little oil filled radiator for when it's particularly cold. Last year the temperature got down to 6 degrees in the bedrooms at night. I understand!
