Toddler - good thick winter pjamas

Panda368 · 04/10/2020 19:01

We have a cold house and my almost 2 year old needs some pjamas - ideally nice thick fleecy ones as hes started to reject his sleeping bag in favour of his duvet but then wakes up cold at 3 or 4am everything I've looked at online looks like thin cotton.

Currently the house is getting down to about 16 on cold mornings bit will go to 10ish when it gets really cold as we dont tend to put the heating on overnight.

Any ideas?

Thicker pj’s just aren’t going to cut it in those temps. My toddler absolutely refused a sleeping bag and I used the jojo snuggly sleep suits linked above and they were perfect. They are 2.5tog, have normal warm pj’s and long sleeved vest on underneath plus thick socks and you should be fine.

Crunchiedelight · 04/10/2020 22:35

Actually I misread and saw 16 degrees and not 10. Stop being so bloody mean and put the heating on, that’s not ok!! Turn the radiator off in your room if you don’t like it warmer.

Look on la redoute and verbaudet. The french clothes stores have loads of warm velour pyjamas. You hardly see them.in the UK, but I always got french relatives to buy them then discovered you can get them from those places

I got these for my nearly 2 year old... so snuggly and warm and really nice quality for the price

Merino thermals from Mountain Warehouse are excellent value and very warm. DD wears hers as pyjamas all the .

shesgonebatshitagain · 04/10/2020 22:39

@letsmaketea

This isn't what you asked, but we had the same problem and got a small oil filled electric radiator for DDs room, which has a thermostat and so we can leave it on all night.
This works really well

Also put a warm fleecy blanket underneath the sheet on their mattress, it really does make a difference

Layering is better for keeping body heat in than one thick layer so out a best body a long sleeved body then pyjamas on You could also use socks and a very thin cardigan

Yes they are really good we had some great petit bateau velour pyjamas

doadeer · 04/10/2020 22:46

10 degrees is so so cold!! Can't you have heating on? Won't his hands and face be cold?

My flat never drops below 22 I honestly can't imagine that temp inside.

Have a look at www.slumbersac.co.uk/baby-sleeping-bags-with-feet/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxbrt2d-X7AIVj9_tCh2IRQymEAAYASAAEgLa4_D_BwE

Our almost 2 year old hates his covers and hated sleeping bags. We got him these with legs and he’s warm all night now been using since he was 1

addictedtotheflats · 04/10/2020 22:47

We've got a cold house too and swear by his slumbersac with feet. You can get 2.5 and 3.5 tog with detachable arms. They do adult sized ones too Grin

AlohaMolly · 04/10/2020 22:48

We live in rural wales and it does get very cold here. We also have just been camping in a camper van with DS4 and discovered exactly how much of a difference keeping socks on makes!

I would invariably end up in DS’ bed with him until very recently so know just how cold his room gets. In the depths of winter, we’d put a hot water bottle in before he went to bed, then tuck him in with a thin fleecey blanket first, duvet over the top and then a knitted blanket in arran weight wool on top of that too. I never really put him in anything but normal pyjamas though!

Oct18mummy · 04/10/2020 22:53

@addictedtotheflats have seen the adult ones am very tempted! 😂

QueenOllie · 04/10/2020 22:54

@doadeer it's not that cold! My flat is currently 16c and I have pjs on which are cotton, and short sleeved
If it goes down to 12-14 and I'm sitting around then yes it's a bit chilly and I would put a blanket over me/hot water bottle/heating on to get it up to 18c

I find 18 cold 😅 it sounds freezing to me but obviously each to their own! I know lots of people don't like to be too warm

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 04/10/2020 22:56

I got some lovely thick warm cotton terry pyjamas for my toddler from sainsburys a while ago but honestly you need to just put the heating on, at 10 degrees their little hands and face will be so cold even with warmer pjs on

MsEllany · 05/10/2020 00:30

Primark was our port of call when ours were little. Lots of fleecy onesies and pyjama sets.

But i would also consider putting the heating on for an hour at 2-3am when it gets really cold. I have the radiator off in our bedroom all year round and a window open most of the time so I get you, but for a toddler especially when prone to kicking covers off I’d set it to come on for a bit.

Yesterdayforgotten · 05/10/2020 08:48

@CornishTiger thankfully it is rare and yes I follow all advice too re: not overheating

bookgirl1982 · 05/10/2020 09:03

The gro company zip bedding stops duvets going wandering. Or tuck a bigger duvet under the mattress.

Janevaljane · 05/10/2020 09:06

Primark 100 cotton thick pjs.

And an oil filled radiator with a timer set to come on at 3am.

Panda368 · 05/10/2020 10:51

It wouldnt get down to 10 without us putting the heating on. We arent cruel. But the temperature in the house can drop quickly and the heating flicking itself on is really noisy and disruptive.

He only wakes very occationally (once in 2 weeks if that) when hes fully kicked off the duvet. I think its common to be a bit cold if you cant keep under a duvet.

Thanks for all the useful sugestions. The slumber sacks look ideal!
