Where to buy loose leaf tea?

Bookaholic73 · 04/10/2020 09:30

I’ve always been an avid tea drinker, but have never tried loose leaf tea.
Where can I buy some really nice good quality stuff, either online or in a shop?

Any supermarket.
Do you have a tea pot?

moonlight1705 · 04/10/2020 09:32

Teapig do a good selection online. I was given some last Christmas and they are very good.

I also like Cheshire Tea Company as they do one called Cream Earl Grey which is my new favourite.

Definitely from the Brew Tea Company. One of the nicest independents I’ve ever bought from and a great way of supporting a small company.

I was hoping for something a bit more special. Yes, I have a teapot.

These are local to me but also deliver. I love their red berries and green tea (can't remember which one I bought!)

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/10/2020 09:42

T2 are great - I have tried so many but their English breakfast is the best!

They also do some other really nice ones and have good delivery.

Kernowgal · 04/10/2020 09:44

I get mine from Cardew's in Oxford, bought online. They have a huge selection and prices/delivery charges are reasonable.

CatBatCat · 04/10/2020 09:47

Uk loose leaf tea company. You can order quite small amounts or huge bundles. They also deliver in totally recyclable packaging.

The best tea comes the Glenburn Tea Estate in Darjeeling. I'm pretty sure they sell it (at least they used to) in Fortnum & Mason.

You need very few leaves - they are whole twist, and unfurl into the full leaf. Their first flush is superb. Personally I like their Silver Needle which is a rare white tea that can only be picked a couple of days a year.

It is the champagne of teas and there is no comparison.

Northern tea merchants! They supply Harrods... www.northern-tea.com

I often used to pop in when I was visiting dad but they do full mail order and sell fab coffee too, both beans and ground. I currently have Earl Grey, Darjeeling (expensive after a couple of bad harvests sadly) Assam, Ceylon and decaffeinated. English breakfast is a blend so you may as well get Twinings.

Fortnum and Mason also started as tea merchants and have fancy tins too.

Have to admit I keep my loose tea in G and M cookie tins!

InglouriousBasterd · 04/10/2020 09:52

Fortnum and Mason. Massive range and not actually that expensive - I bought a tin last year for £13 I think, it’s still going!

ChrissyPlummer · 04/10/2020 09:54

Fortnum & Mason, they also have infusers so that you can just make it in the cup if it’s just for you. I did go a bit Hyacinth Bucket when I realised they use DPD for deliveries and not a van with the Royal warrant 😂

Bird and Blend for sure!! Some amazing teas, their shops are wonderful too!

Mmmm. Delicious teas. Herringbone is my favourite - smoky, a bit like lapsang souchong.

reluctantbrit · 04/10/2020 10:35

Fortnum and Mason here as well.

I our stay away from most supermarket teas unless they stock a specialised brand.

longtompot · 04/10/2020 10:37

Sorry to barge in on your thread op, but does anyone know if any of these independent tea companies do a tea similar to the now discontinued Twinnings Buttermint? It tasted like a Murray mint but in tea form and my yd and I are sad we can no longer get it.

Off to look at the companies suggested

Fair Trade do a nice loose leaf tea that is very reasonably priced.
Local fair Trade stockist, Oxfam or online.

T2.

lazylinguist · 04/10/2020 11:19

My local independent tea seller is Farrers. They are very good, but there are lots of good online ones. I'd go for a small independent one rather than somewhere like Whittards personally. If you live in certain bits of the North of England and have a Booths supermarket, their own loose leaf teas are also very good.
