So what do people think the Queen's been doing over the last 6 months without many engagments?

A light hearted thread.
Her schedule appears to have been quiet. Which is fair enough.

I wonder if she's been getting up late, watching daytime TV - maybe Bargain Hunt?

Or is she a BBC Breakfast or GMB fan?
Watch Countdown?

Relaxing, putting her feet up.
I know she was doing less engagements as she got older.

She is 94 after all.

I very much hope she's done things she enjoys rather than just what she'd scheduled for, that she's eaten nice things and kept in touch with family, and that she's chilled out.

Honestly, I know there are differing opinions of the Queen on here, but however posh and privileged her existence might SEEM to be, I can't think of anything worse than having to go to engagement after engagement, meeting person after person and making the same, boring small talk. The Queen has been nothing but a pawn since she was a young girl. The face of an institution rather than her own person.

Reading her kindle, with a cup of tea at her side, going cold because she's engrossed in a m/m shifter romance series.

I agree she's spent 70 odd years working. It might seem that she's had an easy life but really days of engagements to military timing, being host at functions and the stuff she does with the Government.

Does she actually sign the telegrams herself or are they printed?

I hope her an Phil are doing what they want to do.

Pedallleur · 03/10/2020 21:56

How many engagements did she have before covid? Prob gets to pick and choose anyway. Phillip gave them up a while back. Who is going to say no to to the monarch is they turn down a gig. The Queen is still going to Balmoral/Windsor etc whenever she wants. Doubt she was on the phone to Andrew asking when this unpleasantness will be over.

Phil retired at 95, hes a little old than Liz.
I strongly suspect Liz was planning to give Charlie Prince Regent status come her 95th in April 2021. There were mutterings about it in the press at the end of last year.

Not sure, but she should probably address the nation again. Seems strange she's been so quiet while the country is in crisis.

WINDOLENE · 04/10/2020 15:30

Riding her horses, her hubby, her lover.. Peeling potatoes, picking her nose... Or maybe cracking on with letters, sighing at her kids behaviours.

Walking round naked wearing just a smile and her crown.. That's what I'd do if I were her

OneFiveFour · 04/10/2020 15:43

She is the same age as my Gran, so I am guessing she's been doing similar things to Gran:

  • watching Midsomer Murders
  • reading Catherine Cookson
  • sewing scrubs
  • making flapjack
PercyKirke · 04/10/2020 15:47

Watching racing on the TV.

@Mindymomo

Being woken up with a breakfast tray. Bath run for her. Clothes laid out to wear. Hairdresser in to do hair. Go for a horse ride, horse gotten ready by grooms. After ride, grooms brush down horse and stable it. Queen changes clothes for daytime clothes laid out by lady’s maid. Have lunch prepared for her and Phillip, staff serve, clear away and wash up. Afternoon spent watching horse racing and placing on line bets, reading the racing post and hoping for a winner.

It’s strange to think she has never had to do any of the mundane household tasks that we all have to do each day, such as washing, ironing, cooking and cleaning, food and clothes shopping.

This is the most accurate I think.

The day is set out for her.

Messing around on Gransnet and getting a kick out of the fact she can be anonymous on there!

Making lots of her famous chocolate biscuit cake ( as she made for wills and Kate's wedding) and comfort eating it. Then perhaps absorbing herself by doing some Joe Wicks

Reading the Peoples Friends and sucking on Werthers originals

Going for long walks with her corgi

I love to think she is binge watching The Crown on Netflix and shaking her fist at the screen every now and then saying "wrong! They got that wrong!"

doing The Times Crossword

Gardening, wandering round the Windsor farms (remember how excited she was to see cows at that birthday tribute), sorting out the attic aka the royal collection. I bet she's had time to actually look at all the leonardo drawings and all the Faberge.
And rearranging Queen Mary's dolls house. That's what I'd do.
