Rainbow blanket for baby

bcccc · 01/10/2020 16:07

Everything everyone has bought for my future DS is blue!! I wanted to get him a rainbow blanket as I think they're beautiful and I think he needs colour in his life. Everyone keeps saying that it's too 'girly'. Am I wrong in thinking he's literally just a baby what is wrong with a rainbow blanket. Should I just go ahead and buy it? Grin

Buy it!

Frazzled13 · 01/10/2020 16:10

Definitely get it! I love brightly coloured things like that for babies.

Sally872 · 01/10/2020 16:13

Of course you should buy it.

Buy it. For clothes green is also a lovely colour for little kids. Pale lime, dark green... looks great with tiny jeans. Re blankets, after white ones kept getting grubby super fast I bought a lovely mid grey one. My 4yo ds loves it to this day and it doesn’t show marks too much!

NameChange30 · 01/10/2020 16:14

Of course it's not girly. We had loads of rainbow stuff for DS and still do (he's 3 now). I avoid blue as much as possible, it's boring!

bcccc · 01/10/2020 16:16

Thank you!! I feel much better now. And green is a lovely colour I've bought him a little green hat. I do agree that blue is boring, used to be my favourite colour now I can't stand the sight of it.

Oh yes, get the blanket. Where is it from OP? Been looking at some as well.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/10/2020 16:25

How/why on earth is a rainbow blanket "girly?" Some people are so daft.

user1471538283 · 01/10/2020 16:25

Yes buy it! Apparently babies can see very bright colours better particularly red

I've been looking at handmade ones on Etsy, knitted or bobble ones. They're just so cute I imagine him in his pram with one they're lovely.

A crocheted rainbow blanket was one of the first things I brought when I found out I was having a DS. Its beautiful and used most days, nothing remotely girly about it at all.

bcccc · 01/10/2020 16:27

I know I hate the girly term it pisses me off and yes exactly why I wanted to get him some colours especially considering his pram and next to me are grey🤦‍♀️

That's beautiful. I'll have to dress him in full rainbow and take him to everyone that said it's girly! Grin

Frugi have a gorgeous one
romeolovedjulliet · 01/10/2020 17:01

ds is your baby and it is noone elses business what colours you choose, a rainbow blanket sounds gorgeous.

Thank you for this. It's happened all too often because I'm a FTM everyone is telling me what to do...

DS2 was bought ALLL if the gorgeous rainbow clothes, definitely dress him how you want!

I hate blue and never put either of my DSs in it. Until I realised that DS1 who is nearly 5 really suits baby blue so I've relented with him a bit Grin

Heyahun · 01/10/2020 17:18

This is part of my reason I’m not finding out if I’m having a boy or a girl - to stop the bike / pink gifts!
I hate shit like this 😆

FourPlasticRings · 01/10/2020 17:20

Oh, good lord. The nerve of some people. How dare they stick their beaks in to such an extent? It's a bloody blanket!

I suppose they think it'll turn him gay if he doesn't exclusively wear blue? Worth pointing out that blue used to be thought of as a girl's colour in this country (because it is a nice calm colour).

bcccc · 01/10/2020 17:51

I genuinely think people assume that they'll be gay if they have any sort of colour other than blue. It's a baby you probably couldn't tell if they're a boy or a girl most of the time anyway!! haha

By the way completely unrelated to this thread but does anyone know if this will clip on to the carrycot? I've been looking for things he can watch but they all seem like they're either made for the carseat or the pushchair https://www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2771494c000/baby-sensory-say-hello-happy-adventures-stroller-arch-multi?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8fbSpuyT7AIV84BQBh3uBw8PEAQYFCABEgK8VfDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I made a rainbow coloured blanket when I was expecting, DS1 arrived and still has it as a comfort blanket.

If you like bright clothes, get onto Frugi Grin

I wish I had the patience for that! I've never heard of frugi before I'll have a look now

You'll make him gay, indoctrinating him into the Rainbow crew. It's also proven that boys exposed to gender non conforming clothes, toys etc have smaller willies.
