I’ll start by saying I’ve suffered with anxiety and chronic insomnia in the past but have been doing really well recently.

Thai afternoon a woman walking past our house stopped and took a photo of our front door and then our car. Why would a stranger do that?

I can’t stop thinking that something bad is going to happen tonight, a break in or a fire. Dh is working a late shift and I’m here with our teens. I have to be up early so have come to bed but I can’t relax.

I’ll be ok won’t I?

I’ve taken a photo of someone’s porch recently as thinking of getting similar built. But car as well is a bit strange. Could definitely be Pokemon go or taking a selfie from different angles though.

CamelotSweetheart · 30/09/2020 23:00

Maybe she (or someone she knows) used to live in your house? She took a photo to show her family what it's like now and what a flash / shitty car the new residents have!

Itisbetter · 30/09/2020 23:01

Have you stopped paying for the car/have outstanding debt?

Lochroy · 30/09/2020 23:02

Oh god, I do this all the time because I've spent too much time watching Kirstie and Phil. Things I've taken pics of for future reference:

Front door colour
Front door style
House number plaque
Planter by front door
Plants in front beds
Colour of fencing

The list is endless but the rationale works in my head!

Alicenwonderland · 30/09/2020 23:03

My sisters (both in their 40s) still play Pokemon go. I'd go with this, this could definitely look like someone taking a pic. Maybe they lived in the house years ago? Many, many reasons, most likely not sinister.

OldQueen1969 · 30/09/2020 23:03

Maybe she was doing a Randonautica ?

callmeearly · 30/09/2020 23:04

When we were building our house we took countless photos of peoples windows, doors, front steps, drains even. It never occurred to me that if would freak them out Confused

Longdistance · 30/09/2020 23:06

You need cctv.
We have no links to anything like the police but we have cctv. It’s helped my anxiety loads. I can see my house 24/7. Only for my peace of mind.
Originally we got it as parcels went missing. Now it is to watch comings and goings.
I’m sure some will disagree, but it puts my minds at rest.

3ormorecharacters · 30/09/2020 23:07

I took a photo of a neighbour's drive / front door the other day because I saw a cat there that my DH and I have an ongoing joke about, and I wanted to send DH a picture of it. It could be something as random and silly as that! I'm sure it was nothing.

Pachonga · 30/09/2020 23:07

Was she talking a photo or just checking her phone (or even using it as a mirror)?

People take photos of our front porch every day. We have a lot of foot traffic and tourists (well, not right now) go past and our frontage is very of our area, especially when we decorate it for holidays. I don’t like it either.

BreconBeBuggered · 30/09/2020 23:08

We had a whole family lurking in front of our house last week . I'm still none the wiser, and they were hanging about for a good couple of hours, but nothing bad has happened. I'd still love to know what they were up to, though.

Oh dear I’ve been photographing people’s houses/ gardens lately and often the mundane ones. I’m really into my Animal Crossing game and I’m trying to recreate a Span housing estate look with my resident’s housing. I’ve been photgraphing all the housing estates with communal gardens to help me get ideas.

I’d hate it if I was making anyone anxious. I’m too old for you to think I’m doing it for a Nintendo game, too!

Thechase · 30/09/2020 23:11

Could she have been on face time or whatever it’s called and trying to get the best angle. My children do this constantly.

tinkerbellvspredator · 30/09/2020 23:14

I've just got am app where you take a short video every day and it saves 1 second, so you can create mash up / journal of your day to day life. Have done sitting on train, walking down street etc

TitsOutForHarambe · 30/09/2020 23:14

She was probably playing Pokemon go. Loads of people are still doing it.

justasking111 · 30/09/2020 23:18

I hated that pokemon go in the end, had to drive round for miles so DS could pick up lots. So perhaps it was that.

thisplaceisweird · 30/09/2020 23:25

Please stop taking pictures of strangers houses. It's very anxiety inducing. I was in a traumatic situation years ago with burglars and that would really freak me out. Not to mention its just a bit intrusive.

BumbleFlump · 30/09/2020 23:26

Was she definitely taking a photo or just looking at her phone? It’s hard to know what a person is doing with their phone without actually seeing the screen. Maybe a selfie? How do you know she was doing this? Did you actually see her or catch her doing this on camera?

Most people with dogs are nice people, I highly doubt there was anything untoward about it.

thisplaceisweird · 30/09/2020 23:27

Most people with dogs are nice people

Hmmm...

User33019385 · 30/09/2020 23:29

There's a trend on TikTok where people post moody "slice of life" clips underlaid with nice music. Rainy ambience is very popular. People go around filming very short clips of their everyday life and edit them together in the app. It's also possible she took a picture of your door as a background for a Instagram story to capture the feeling of that day.

Especially if she's young and female then social media could easily be a reason. Selfies are actually out at the moment...taking shots of mundane, everyday things is very popular.

Blulorry · 30/09/2020 23:30

You will be fine OP Flowers

Time2change2 · 30/09/2020 23:30

How did you know it was a photo? Could she just have been checking her signal or doing something else looking at her phone?

IndiaMay · 30/09/2020 23:30

Selfie. I take loads everyday to send to my fiance back and forth over whatsapp whilst hes at work. My only defense with this sadness is ive been working from home since march and my human contact is limited Blush. I went for a run in the rain on my lunch break today and took a selfie of how soaked and red I was and sent it to him to prove I went because he was betting I wouldn't go. That was in front of the houses at the end of our street so there are peoples houses in the background
