Does dd need to self isolate??

chasegirl · 30/09/2020 17:27

Trying to work out if Dd needs to isolate for 14 days or not. She's got no covid symptoms so doesn't qualify for a test. Her step mom has tested positive for covid today, had the test yesterday. Dd last saw her on Sunday morning so over 48 hours ago.

I am not sure if I understand the guidance correctly. I think she has to isolate for 14 days but I don't? Can anyone confirm??

For those saying you don't have to isolate unless you're contacted .. come on. That's a really irresponsible loophole, isn't it?

She knows she's had contact (even socially distanced they were in the same house) so I would suggest that yes, she should isolate :(.

dementedpixie · 30/09/2020 18:57

Depends when her symptoms started. If in contact in the 48 hours before symptoms started then she needs to isolate. If it was more than 48 hours before symptoms then she doesnt

Stompythedinosaur · 30/09/2020 19:42

She had direct contact with someone who was positive for Covid in the preceeding 48 hours, so I think she needs to isolate.

Can you not phone the step mum and check 1) how she is and 2) when symptoms started?

Of course not. It’s what it says on the NHS website.

People shouldn’t be inventing their own version of the rules and then castigating others for not following them.

Trying to find out when the symptoms started. I think it will still be within 48 hours cos I doubt she'd have been able to get a test the same day

Yes she does and should be able to get a test

CodenameVillanelle · 30/09/2020 20:29

@hippohector

See, I think she does need to self isolate for 14 days as she has had direct contact with someone who has tested positive. Isn’t that the whole premise of the test and trace system?
More than 48 hours ago so no

She doesn't need a test unless she gets symptoms
PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2020 20:31

She can’t get a test without symptoms.

chasegirl · 30/09/2020 20:39

Can't get a test as no symptoms that's clear.

Step mom had symptoms Tuesday morning (mild) and apparently on Sunday they were outside for 90% of the time. Dd was there about 2 hours.

Dd is adamant she is OK to go to school, I was quite surprised by that Grin she read the guidance too.

Sorry I meant to add if she develops symptoms

Nacreous · 30/09/2020 20:44

Didn't you say she was in your DD's support bubble? In which case the screenshot above would say she didn't have to isolate?

dementedpixie · 30/09/2020 20:44

Depends how close they got. Outdoors is much lower risk. Indoors is riskier and close contact is counted as

Nacreous · 30/09/2020 20:44

Did have to* sorry

chasegirl · 30/09/2020 20:51

Step mom is married to Dds dad. She goes there every other weekend so that is a support bubble isn't it? Sunday was a 1 off so dd could get her birthday presents

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 30/09/2020 20:53

I thought a support bubble is where a single adult/parent could team up with another family

PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2020 20:58

People really don’t understand what support bubbles are.

fia101 · 30/09/2020 20:58

My childminder tested positive for Covid on Sunday.

We were all in close contact.

Weren't contacted by track and trace.

Daughter displayed some symptoms so got her tested - was negative.

School was happy to have her back and my husbands boss wanted him back.

We phoned NHS who said regardless of negative test we all have to isolate as we were in close contact with childminder. They said we should've been contacted by track and trace and don't know why we weren't (we all have the app).

School had no idea what policy was and neither did workplace. Had to inform them about what NHS had said and one sought another opinion which confirmed ours.

To be honest she is in a bit of a grey area. I would keep her at home and call school in the morning.
chasegirl · 30/09/2020 21:19

It's very grey. I have the NHS app and nothing has come through.

Fia101 what number dud you use to call NHS? Wasn't sure if 111 was appropriate or not

But she was in their house, as though she lived there, using their kitchen/bathroom etc. Was she in the car with her?
petalsandstars · 30/09/2020 21:28

If it’s covid related you need to call 119 instead of 111

WitchesNStuff · 30/09/2020 21:33

She should isolate for 2 weeks from the last time she had contact with her.

My sons year group have been sent home till 8th October, a girl tested positive this week (has been off since middle of last week as a person they were on contact with tested positive). The guidelines definitely state you should isolate if you have been on contact with someone. The rest of the household don't need to unless your DD shows symptoms then you need to isolate for 14 days.
