Or not bother ? It’s not Covid related

No way. I can't believe all those saying yes

lentilsforlunch · 30/09/2020 19:40

I am also clearly a terrible person

Varjakpaw · 30/09/2020 19:43

Yes of course. Not just because of registration but because otherwise would mean missing a whole lesson. That is probably the worst time of the school day to miss.

No, you just clearly have a robustly healthy child and have therefore not had one of those letters saying "your DC's attendance is not good enough, we will therefore mark all future absences as unauthorised unless you get a doctor's note signed in triplicate in blood (yours, your DC's and the doctor's) and involve the attendance officer..." Grin

Trust me, one bad head cold and an episode of D&V (compulsory 48 hours off) plus a couple of occasions on which the school send your child back home (thanks for that, school - your decision counts against my parenting record...) in the first term of the year, and your card is marked for ever after.

I just got one of those letters after DS spent the statutory 10 days self-isolating with covid type symptoms (it wasn't of course, it was a head cold, but we couldn't get a test for love nor money).

Yup, they are still sending those letters out in the middle of a global pandemic with a case fatality rate of 0.5%, at the same time as they are sending kids home if they cough more than twice in any one lesson!

Not that I'm pissed off or anything.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/09/2020 19:54

Definitely would in our situation. GP is five minutes from the school. I wouldn't for an appointment before 10am because they'd barely have settled before I came for them, but after that I'd pick up and return.

MojoJojo71 · 30/09/2020 20:54

Yes, I would and I have, I look at it the same way as my job, don’t think my boss would be very happy if I didn’t come in before an appointment at 11. I’d take them straight back after too, with any luck they be in time for lunch

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 20:58

Yes. The first hour and a half is English in the school I work at. You'd miss maths, but missing part of the learning sequence for English isn't helpful. If you can only miss one lesson, why would you miss two?

Coffeeandaride · 30/09/2020 21:00

Yes if logistics allow. I wouldn’t want to disrupt class but it was a GP appointment that would be quick enough and back for lunch?

HereComesTheSnow · 30/09/2020 21:15

Our school won’t allow that atm, been told no back and forth so they either go in for the 1.5 hours and miss the rest of the day or go in after the appointment for the rest of the day.

WINDOLENE · 30/09/2020 21:49

I'd rearrange the appointment for either first thing or after school if not possible I'd keep them off until after the appointment then send them in

bonbonours · 30/09/2020 22:04

Yes because then they are marked in in the morning. Otherwise they'll be marked as absent for the whole morning.

AltoCation · 30/09/2020 23:50

Do people not know that the first hour is literacy / numeracy?

RepeatSwan · 01/10/2020 00:02

I think most people probably do know this.
StopMakingShitUp · 01/10/2020 00:26

My daughters primary school would ask for them to be brought but it was only a ten min walk. She'd then be back at school after the appointment unless it ran hours late.

There's been days where her app has been been 9.20am and school have suggested I take her in wait for register to be taken and then take her home again so she's got her attendance mark.

This was five or so years ago though.

MadameBlobby · 01/10/2020 00:27

Yes

AlwaysLatte · 01/10/2020 00:32

Yes because they'd get the important morning lessons in, but only if it's a shortish car journey or a short walk.

SauvignonGrower · 01/10/2020 00:38

Yes. But our school is opposite GP Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/10/2020 00:41

No.
This was in pre covid times though.

HoppyHop · 01/10/2020 00:50

Yes, for the attendance reasons already mentioned. If logistics work.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 01/10/2020 00:53

Yes - I would & have but mine do breakfast club as well so I can get 2hrs work done in the interim.
I wouldn't take them back after 2pm

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 01/10/2020 01:05

You're all so good. I'd look upon it as a bit of an extra lie in Blush

notangelinajolie · 01/10/2020 01:16

Yes I would.

RepeatSwan · 01/10/2020 01:29

This is the definition of pointless. Honestly, this country is so stupid at times, that a school either has to or chooses to waste time thinking about that.

emptyshelvesagain · 01/10/2020 01:47

I wouldn't. I would think 'thank fuck' and enjoy and extra half hour or so in bed Grin
