Or not bother ? It’s not Covid related

We live a five minute walk from school, I would absolutely take them in for the first part of the morning and return them again after the appointment (assuming it’s not an “all day at the far away hospital having upsetting procedure” type appointment). I try to maximise their attendance.

daisyjgrey · 30/09/2020 17:24

No, I'd just take her in afterwards.

All the other comments have made me realise I am clearly a terrible person Shock

EasilyDeleted · 30/09/2020 17:28

We always used to do that, school was only a 10 min walk away. Sometimes if the appt was 9.30 or thereabouts I'd just hang around outside chatting to someone for 10 mins then go round to the office and fetch them again. School were happy as it ticked the attendance box.

Probably.
DS has been in for 9am register then out just before 10am for an allergy apt. Back before afternoon register too so he didn't lose any attendance points.

alexdgr8 · 30/09/2020 17:47

no.

Mumtumwobble · 30/09/2020 18:31

Yes I definitely would. They would miss either an English or Maths lesson otherwise in my dc school.

SahmedOut · 30/09/2020 18:43

Yes, I'd send them in. I'd ask for them to be sent out at break time / when a lesson finishes.

Aragog · 30/09/2020 18:52

Yes if it was close by

Saz12 · 30/09/2020 18:56

I would. Anything over an hour in the morning and Id send her in.

minipie · 30/09/2020 18:59

Yes, unless DC was a bit tired and run down, then I’d probably keep her home either before or after just for some quiet time.

chocolateoranges33 · 30/09/2020 19:06

Yes I would and often did

pastapestoparmesan · 30/09/2020 19:18

From a teacher perspective, 100% yes. Firstly, that first 90 minutes will be English/phonics/maths. Secondly, it feels far less disruptive to have someone go out to an appointment and come back; rather than assuming they’re not coming and then they appear at a random time.

Scweltish · 30/09/2020 19:28

If it’s within walking distance then I’d take them to school before and after. I’m lucky that our doctors surgery is literally in the same street as the school, though I live 3 miles away and travel by bus, so it would be a faff going back and fore

Rockbird · 30/09/2020 19:30

If the logistics work then yes to get their morning mark.

LolaSmiles · 30/09/2020 19:30

If it's a short walking distance then I would take them to school and collect for the GP appointment.

It it was a 20 minute drive and a hospital or orthodontic appointment then I'd keep them off for the morning and take them in at lunch.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 30/09/2020 19:32

Yes I would. School is a 10 min walk and on the way to the GP surgery so no reason not to really.

anorangeaday · 30/09/2020 19:32

I wouldn’t because it’s a faff to get to school

PotatoHead2020 · 30/09/2020 19:33

Next week DD has an appointment at 09:40 half an hour away - I'm taking her into school (at 08:50) and collecting at 09:10. I checked with school and they said they would prefer me to do it that way.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/09/2020 19:34

If it is tomorrow and they are in England, then yes as it is school census day and get them marked in for school lunch!

BikeRunSki · 30/09/2020 19:34

Yes

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 30/09/2020 19:35

Yes I always did when DC were at primary school as it was only a 5 min walk away.
The kids get their attendance mark & also it helps the school with attendance figures.

Timeforanotherusername · 30/09/2020 19:35

Yes of course!

In that 1 1/2 hour they have learned something.

I've sent them for a lot less time than that before.

I think I've probably picked up at 9.30 before Grin

Taswama · 30/09/2020 19:35

If I had another child to take in anyway yes.
Otherwise probably not. School is a 30 minute round trip (walking) so I'd rather not have to do that three times in a working day. I always tell school if he has an appointment though and that he will be in late. He is happy reading or playing in his room. I would take him in afterwards.

CaraDuneRedux · 30/09/2020 19:36

Yes, because if you get them in for registration, they're marked as "present" for that half day, whereas if you keep them off they'll go down as "absent" and even though this is for medical reasons, it will affect their attendance figures and may come back to bite you later in the year if they have time off for other illnesses.

Taswama · 30/09/2020 19:38

Would be different if he had regular appointments.
