Calling all mums of boys

DH and I have finally decided to find out the sex of our second baby at the 20 week scan in a couple of weeks. This will definitely be our last baby. We already have DS who is a complete joy. Obviously I will love and adore number two just as much regardless of sex, but I confess I'm feeling a bit apprehensive about having a second boy and being outnumbered for the rest of my life! 😂 I guess I'd expect boys to end up gravitating more to DH as they grow up, but maybe I'm wrong? If you have boys and no girls, tell me all the lovely things about it so I can get properly excited about the future! 😁

I'm mum to two boys. They're close to DH and I in different ways. They share interests with DH and different interests with me. They both have their boisterous side and their more sensitive side. I try to show them that the sensitive side is just as much a part of them as the boisterous side.

Roselilly36 · 29/09/2020 19:52

Many congrats OP, I am mum to two boys, now 19 & 17, just a 21 gap between them. They are best friends. And so lovely, and very protective towards me, they love me & their dad to bits. Enjoy the adventure, the time flies.

GunsAndShips · 29/09/2020 19:53

I have a DS. He's sensitive, kind, affectionate, gentle, loves shopping, bubble baths and trinkets. My DD shaves her head, does archery and likes hiking with her (mostly male) friends, gets filthy and sweaty and refuses to shower.

2 gorgeous boys here! They are amazing and affectionate. I think it’s got more to do with how you treat a child rather than if they are a boy or girl. I just try to enjoy them for who they are and support them in their interests, whatever they may be.

umberellaonesie · 29/09/2020 19:57

3 boys, they have grown into lovely young men/ teens, and recently when I told my middle son aged 16 I had a new job and different hours he said he was so pleased I wouldn't be doing long shifts anymore as he missed me.

Quirrelsotherface · 29/09/2020 20:04

3 boys, all gorgeous, well-rounded little humans. They are all different and they spend equal time with mum and dad. I was a stereotypically girly girl and my boys opened up a whole new world for me..being outdoors a LOT, sport, different ways of thinking and looking at things. They are perfect and each other's best friend most of the time.

CatSmith · 29/09/2020 20:08

Boys really don’t gravitate towards their dad, I had a son and I have three daughters.

I must admit to feeling a slight pang towards my friend who had three sons, now they are all strapping men!

You seem to be a great mum .

Strokethefurrywall · 29/09/2020 20:28

I've 2 DSs, 9 & 6 - both closer to me than DH.

I'm their cuddle monster, their boo boo fixer, their monster slayer, their food server, their question answerer, their tear wiper, their gift wrapper, their party organizer, their homework dictator, their lullaby singer, their secret keeper, their dream maker, their cheerleader, their disciplinarian, their teacher, their Santa messenger, their fight referee, the list goes on and on and on.

I am the centre of their world right now, they're close with DH too, but both are undoubtedly mummy's boys but in different ways

It's wonderful and I hope they will always feel able to come to me with all their questions and fears and think me amazing enough that I can help solve their problems!

frugalkitty · 29/09/2020 20:35

My eldest son makes me laugh like no one else on the planet, he's just wonderful. He's 17 and although he can be annoying at times like any teenager, he's a good lad. My youngest son is a delight, just at the stage of switching on to Dad rather than Mum, but he's my baby and we have a lovely bond. DD is in the middle and a mini-me, perfectly self sufficient and having brothers means she's not boy mad like some of her friends.

It often saddens me when people suggest that it must be hard having boys, that girls are easier etc as it's just not true. Boys are fabulous, they're just a bit muddier and smellier than household of girls might be, and just remember that they eat a lot! No food is safe with teenage boys in the house Grin

Thedogshow · 29/09/2020 20:41

I have a lovely, gentle, sweet boy who is a young teenager. I so much wanted daughters but he is such a joy. Very different to our daughter, in lots of ways, but so much to do with personality rather than sex.
He is funny, easy going and thoughtful and really great company. I find it’s a very simple, uncomplicated relationship.

Libmama · 29/09/2020 20:42

I’ve got two boys and if I ever have another baby I’d be having my fingers tightly crossed for another boy. They are adorable and gross in equal measures!

Slave2love · 29/09/2020 20:46

Proud Mum to 3 sons and wouldnt have it any other way. Some people would hate to be the only female in the house but I love it!

JassyRadlett · 29/09/2020 20:50

My lovely boys are 9 and 4 - they are lovely, funny, curious, loyal and so very different from each other. I have never met anyone who loves as fully and fiercely as DS2 (and conversely can hold quite a grudge) or anyone with the depth of curiosity and thirst for knowledge as DS1, combined with such gentleness.

HunkyPunk · 29/09/2020 20:51

3 boys (4 if you count dh!) and they're all wonderful! I've never felt outnumbered, When they were all at home I felt like the head of a tribe!
Boy or girl - congratulations and enjoy, op Smile

SummerHouse · 29/09/2020 20:55

The biggest privilege of my life is, and will always be, seeing the relationship between my two boys.

Bbq1 · 29/09/2020 20:57

My boy is just 15 and was a beautiful baby and now a lovely young man. We are really close and we still have a hug every night. Ds still likes to spend time with me and his dad as well as seeing his mates. He's always been very affectionate and open. Close to dad to but definitely not any closer to him than he is to me. I'm so glad we had a boy, he was much longed for.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/09/2020 21:06

2 teen boys here. They are wonderful. And much closer to me than their dad. Although that could be because he moved out 11 years ago and only sees them when it suits him.

Spongebob88 · 29/09/2020 21:07

1 boy who is 11 he is the most loving, kind hearted person I know. He would do anything for me and he gives the best cuddles. I wanted a girl when I was pregnant with him but I wouldn't change him for the world.

Martamaybe · 29/09/2020 21:10

I have an adult son and daughter and can honestly say i’m as close to both of them . They both would choose me to confide in but both have very good but different relationships with their father . Our relationships are based on love but also our different personalities, interests etc . I truly don’t think them being male or female has had much to do with it .

Morana23 · 29/09/2020 21:24

2 boys here, aged 6 and 8 - they fight like cat and dog sometimes but they are best friends and play so much together. It's messy and loud here but I wouldn't change them for the world. Don't think I can have any more kids and I'm ok with that. They make my world feel so full, they are so so loving both love cuddles very affectionate. Also love wrestling Grin very active, but so funny and so much fun. Oh and they eat shit loads! Like, loads! And then burn it all off charging around... Never a dull moment.

Circus123 · 29/09/2020 21:28

I have one son and he is a dream, the easiest baby, toddler, little boy I could have ever dreamed of. He is so affectionate, easy going and good-natured. Has never given me a broken night's sleep. My son is 8 and I love and adore him. Halo

stovetopespresso · 29/09/2020 21:31

re the feeling outnumbered worry op. I have 2 of each. Big age gap between dd1 and the rest (different dads). our upbringing style has really changed since #metoo. dh and I really realise how important it is to bring up sensitive young men who realise the challenges women face and learn not to see life through stereotypical male eyes iyswim. so as long as dh onside.... congratulations!!

stovetopespresso · 29/09/2020 21:31

argh meant dont worry op sorry!!!

Delta1 · 29/09/2020 21:35

Two boys here too. 5 and 6. Super loving and cuddly and all about mummy although love hanging out with daddy too. I love the bones of em !

DaisyandRoses · 29/09/2020 21:36

I have a little girl. But I have two brothers and they’re very close with my Mum when I’m not at all. She even said she wanted a ‘tomboy’ which explains it really!
