Ginger is wonderful

Just that really. I was chopping root ginger for a curry earlier and it has so many uses. Biscuits. Cakes. Chocolate coated. Zing up your rhubarb crumble. Stir frys. It's the only thing I've found that reliably prevents motion sickness. Is there anything else as all-round good as ginger?

Also lemon and ginger tea SmileBrew

Yes it is lovely. One of my favourite spices!

DiscontentedWoman · 29/09/2020 07:45

I chopped some up into stewing apples yesterday - delicious and very warming

I LOVE fresh ginger.

I thought you meant your cat Grin

I thought that you meant redheads for a minute!

Cinnamon is another. Great in sweet or savoury dishes. Gets used a lot here.

AriesTheRam · 29/09/2020 08:13

Love it in sweet things.Hate in savoury.

Breathmiller · 29/09/2020 08:27

I love fresh ginger. I use it to make spiced soups (butternut squash and ginger is lovely) and in curries and dhals.
I also have a really strong ginger and apple shot in the morning its my equivalent of a coffee. It wakes you up.
Also homemade chai tea with loads of fresh ginger.

I like how it goes with sweet and savoury. I jist finished the hotel chocolat ginger chocolate squares.

In Ayurveda (the sister science of yoga) it is called Universal Medicine. It's so good for you.

Cinnamon is foul.

It can also cause allergic swelling in the mouth and throat, just in case anyone has any unexplained breathing problems after not realising it is added to all kinds of things these days. A real pain when shopping, having to avoid things with it in.

HappydaysArehere · 29/09/2020 08:43

After a bad fall I was put on pain killers and generally didn’t feel well. Suddenly had a yen for ginger nut biscuits. Strange they had been in the cupboard for ages and I hadn’t any desire for them. They immediately made me feel better. Kept eating them, now watching the waistline.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 29/09/2020 08:48

I grate ginger with the smallest grater and add it raw to curries/soups at the end. It’s a much stronger and fresher flavour than if you add it at the beginning and cook it.

Montybojangles · 29/09/2020 15:31

@SlopesOff I love the stuff. Moussaka would not be right without it.

I can see it would be a pain in the ass if you had an allergy to it though, lists of ingredients in some things have ingredients you would never have imagined relevant to the finished product. Especially difficult I imagine if it just states flavourings or spices Sad

SingingSands · 29/09/2020 15:41

I love dark chocolate gingers from posh chocolate shops Grin

And it's the base for all curries here - the holy trinity of onion, ginger and garlic.

And made into a tea with lemon and a pinch of pink salt when feeling full of cold.

AlCalavicci · 29/09/2020 15:48

I love it too , I cook with it a lot but my favourite way to use it is choked into small bits and simmered in water for 20 mins drank hot or cold

WellTidy · 29/09/2020 15:48

I cook with it a lot - it is indeed really versatile.

The most versatile food though I think is an egg. I am always amazed at how much you can do with an egg and how many things you can use it in.

IamMaz · 29/09/2020 15:59

I don't like ginger...

Mollypolly2610 · 29/09/2020 19:09

I make a big jug of water with ginger, lemon and cucumber in it. Tasty and good for you.

sequinednostrils · 29/09/2020 19:15

I chop it up finely and add to hot water with honey to kill off any colds or lurghis.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/09/2020 19:17

Love it. Any which way.

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 29/09/2020 19:20

@Breathmiller how do you make your shot in the morning? Sounds fab.

Love ginger here too. Also great with alcohol as a mixer.

Lamentations · 29/09/2020 19:28

Ginger cake is the best cake variety by a country mile. Fact.

Breathmiller · 29/09/2020 19:57

@StepawayfromtheBiscuittin

So simple....
One apple, I like golden delicious best and an inch of ginger (or more if you like it zingy) juiced.

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 29/09/2020 20:01

Thank you @Breathmiller I shall report back in the morning! I would often put ginger in an apple, cucumber and celery juice or with apple and carrot juice but the shot just sounds more invigorating!

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 29/09/2020 20:04

Ginger makes me really ill.

If I eat it, I'm literally doubled over with stomach cramps, and it takes me around two weeks to recover. Sad
