Does anyone on here have a Filofax or planner?

Not gonna lie, I am a bit of a Filofax and stationery junkie and as it’s been my payday recently, i was going to treat myself in Ryman’s or WH Smith. But last night, I found a gorgeous vintage leather Filofax Cavendish. It’s navy blue, I’m normally more of a pale pink or purple girl, but the quality looks lovely and despite being personal size, it has huge 30mm rings that are normally exclusive to the bigger a5 planners.

It got me thinking, who else on here carries a Filofax or planner? Obviously I do have an iPhone but something about paper I just love.

Can’t be the only Filofax lover here, can I?Grin

I've had one for years and have worked my way through several personal ones and now have a mini as it fits in my handbag. I'm always very smug when everyone is writing the next date for something at a meeting and I write mine in a flash as everyone else is opening up their electronic calendars. I love paper for this - it's fast. I'm always a little excited when I order next year's inserts. So pleased I'm not the only one.

I do a bullet journal in a Leuchtturm 1917 dotted notebook. It goes everywhere with me and I love it. I used to use a Moleskine but get on much better with the Leuchtturm.

Love mine!! Ordered a new pale blue one for this year and have 2021 neatly written up and installed. Once I had all humans safely out in a house fire, I’d be back in for my Personal Finsbury Filofax.

notimagain · 24/09/2020 22:35

Yep another Filophile here...

Whole (unpredictable lacking routine) life was run using it and it ended up as thick as a phone book... it did attract some somewhat adverse comments from PDA addicted younger colleagues over recent years - "oh that's quaint"..but OTOH as I point out to them at least the batteries never go flat...

Things have become somewhat simplified recently (the joys of retirement) so I'm umming and ahhing over whether I really need to invest in 2021's pages...it's going to be tough not to do so...

WitsEnding · 24/09/2020 22:36

I had a leather A5 Filofax when working. My main issue with it was that it was heavy to carry around compared to almost anything else that would have done the same job.

KeepHimJolene · 24/09/2020 22:46

I'm inspired to dig out my Mulberry Filofax circa 1997 A5 size for uni after reading this thread. I loved mine back in the day. Want it for note taking not diary tho

stepmotherofone · 24/09/2020 22:49

Loving the Filo love here. I’ve got an A5 Original. Not been used to it’s full potential this year due to lockdown and hatred of my job though

Sgtmajormummy · 24/09/2020 22:56

My zip-around leather bound pocket size Filofax is on the shelf as a historic address book. Mobile phones have taken over.

But I do use an A5 Moleskine diary+blank page with the same annotation system I developed with the Filofax. Next year it will go down to the small size.

PrivateSpidey · 24/09/2020 22:57

Yes I have a Filofax and I love it! It's a dark red mini.

I use a Leuchtturm for bullet journalling tasks/plans/to do lists etc as well. I use the Filo for appointments etc (not that it's been very well used this year mind you).

AnonUser2018 · 24/09/2020 22:58

I treated myself to an A5 Finsbury in dark green last year when I returned to the workplace after 5yrs of being a sahm Smile. I love it for the look, pockets, flexibility. I keep all my notes on me at all times (no more scrabbling around trying to find a note pad).

I find the rings hard to write around though, and it's big and heavy so doesn't fit in my handbag Sad

I've now found myself having to fill it in for me, but also having to fill in my work Outlook calendar so my colleagues know what I'm up to, AND then I fill in my phone calendar as I always have my phone in my hand.

I write birthdays on a calendar in the kitchen, otherwise I forget them.

AnonUser2018 · 24/09/2020 22:59

@Sgtmajormummy good to know I'm not the only one who keeps historic address books!

I had a Filofax for year. Now I only carry an iPhone but I still miss my beloved Filofax and hanker after a new one. All those inserts you could buy!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 25/09/2020 08:20

I’m a Filofax lover, much to the amusement of my colleagues (when the office was open). I find it a bit sad though this year looking at the empty pages!

BrieAndChilli · 25/09/2020 08:34

I use a box clever press organiser
Each week spans 2 pages and has enough columns for me, DH, 3 Kidd, work and other plus a menu planning column and a to do list.
Then it also has loads of notes pages, Christmas and summer holiday planning pages, budget pages etc.

fatfacesellcupstoo · 25/09/2020 08:49

I still use mine daily. I was given it when my daughter was born and she's almost 34.
No idea what one it is but it's brown leather
I always buy the inserts from WH Smith each Christmas

Mumsnut · 25/09/2020 09:00

I have an A4 sized one that I must have bought aboit a 1990. It is lovely thick, black grainy leather

However, I haven’t actually used I for a couple of decades. It is more of a paperweight now

Ilovewillow · 25/09/2020 09:05

Not a Filofax but I'm a sucker for a moleskine diary and notebook which I alway carry around.

SouterSally · 25/09/2020 09:06

I have a dark tan one bought in 1985 and still going strong, really good leather.

I have kept my outgoings on my first flat from 1987 in the back ever-since (an expenses page, dont think you can still get them) makes me smile when I look at it.

I but the dupes from WH Smith though as I though the Filofax ones were getting way to expensive

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 25/09/2020 09:45

Every year I buy a moleskine pro weekly vertical planner.

It’s perfect for me. Both my husband and I are police officers and it has space for me to record all his shifts, all my meetings and work related projects as well as everything for our three and four year olds.

I also write everything from the diary on the box clever family calendar with columns for each family member which is in the kitchen and has space for meal planning.

I’d never be without my moleskine!

DominaShantotto · 25/09/2020 10:04

I don't normally but this year with the online learning for uni I've switched to a day-to-page diary where I can write in things to do as well as live sessions I need to be at. Just to help me structure my thoughts a bit better than I was doing.

The annoying thing is though that my uni has their own timetable app and change things on the fly so you write them in your diary and then have to change it every time.

ColleagueFromMars · 25/09/2020 10:06

Aaaah always nice when you find your people!

I had a black A5 filofax given to be donkeys years ago, brand new, possibly for my first office job. Its been unused for years and I must have got rid of it to a charity shop during lockdown clear out, which I now bitterly regret Blush

A friend bought me a purple personal size one a few years ago which I used with love for a few years. Then I got into bullet journaling and then "business & life planners" and used branded ones of those for a few years. I bought the A5 refill of my favourite one ( ultimateplanners.co.uk/product/udp2021/ ) because I figured i might as well use my A5 filofax again before realising that I'd got rid of it Angry and then was doubly cross with myself when I realised how expensive replacements were even second hand on ebay 😳

In the meantime I bought a passion planner (not yet arrived, oh the suspense!) And then decided to buy a cheap and wonderfully cheerful fake filofax for the pre-ordered diary refil which isn't due to arrive yet either.

I'm now wistfully looking at the purple personal one and wondering if I have any project that justifies resurrecting that one too. Maybe as a food journal... there are certainly good inserts available on etsy.

QueenMabby · 25/09/2020 10:15

I used my Filofax (personal size) when the children were small but now they’re both at secondary school I need more space to schedule in all the taxiing I have to do! My ECLP is too big to carry around but I’m a SAHM and it’s perfect for organising housework/children’s activities and appts. etc.

I have a leather Ralph Lauren one bought for me by a boyfriend in the mid 90s. I used it all the time and now it just sits in my bedside cabinet. It's funny because I've only recently been thinking about how, pre Google, I would write down references, phone numbers and all sorts in it. I'm going to get it out again after reading this.
