Your company phone system and WFH

Inspired by another thread.
Our company is a bit old fashioned so it's been difficult with the phones.

Has your company got a great system so you get calls at home, can talk to each other, pass calls through...

Or is it a bit 20th century?

We have Microsoft teams.

CatBatCat · 24/09/2020 20:30

Zoom, Slack or sometimes personal phone between the immediate team. We use Xinix to dial out to clients.

pearlypidge · 24/09/2020 20:36

We have VOIP phones and they work just as if we were in the office.

When lockdown started, we simply all took our phones with us and plugged them in at home.

Anyone can ring my normal work number, and the phone rings at my desk at home. Even the internal extension numbers work, so we can all call each other easily as well. We can transfer calls to each other etc.

No call-forwarding needed, and no need to call people from personal mobiles either.

It's fab.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/09/2020 20:48

We also use WebEx which is crap compared to Teams, the only advantage being you can have more people on the call.

We talked about diverting our work phones to our mobiles when all this started but thankfully it didn't seem to work. If they want me to speak to customers they can provide me with a mobile!

Twospaniels · 24/09/2020 20:50

NHS, we have Cisco phones and have the software on our laptops at home so we log in as usual, same as in the office. Outside callers just ring the usual clinic number and admin answer it from their laptops at home and can transfer calls to other staff so long as they have logged in wherever they are.

We also use MSTeams, and a lot of the consultations are being done on Teams too.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/09/2020 21:00

Law firm. We use 3CX and there is either an app or web client (I use the latter as the former didn't get on with my phone and kept disconnecting). We can call each other, our usual phone numbers get through to the usual people, and when I dial out, my work number shows. I can see who's available and who's not on my screen.

RunningNinja79 · 24/09/2020 21:01

We use Skype and Teams. We mostly use Skype if we are having a quick chat about something ad hoc, but for meetings we use teams.

We go into the office on a rota basis to answer the phones. A couple of people have got a work mobile, but that's used to ring out. At the start of lockdown we did divert the calls, but it never really worked properly. We got a fair few emails complaining about how we couldn't get hold of. I'd rather go in than make phone calls at home.

Helloyouthere · 24/09/2020 21:02

We use a phone system that diverts calls from customers to our personal phones. We haven't been given work phones yet.

It's bit of a pain as anyone in the business (100s of employees) can see your personal phone number.

DrDreReturns · 24/09/2020 21:07

Software company. We use Teams. I really like it. I don't have to make or receive external calls though.

Mabelface · 24/09/2020 21:23

Cisco and Jabber here. Works fine.

BlueThursday · 24/09/2020 21:23

High street bank. Internally we use Teams but have to use our own phones to contact customers.

I block my number so invariably customers don’t answer and I’m seen as awkward by management for doing so and for not giving my number out to customers

FatGirlShrinking · 24/09/2020 21:27

We use Mitel soft phone, moving to CISCO in a couple of months.

It's a VOIP set up. It does the job.

ceeveebee · 24/09/2020 21:28

People can phone my “landline” but it rings on my laptop...think it’s Skype?
And we also have teams and slack for internal calls

OhTheRoses · 24/09/2020 21:28

Office phones on divert to mobiles.
Zoom
Teams
Skype

QueenOllie · 24/09/2020 21:28

Contact centre. Use genesys interaction workspace

Roominmyhouse · 24/09/2020 21:29

We have a ‘storm’ system. In the office you’d log into a handset then into the storm system, at home it’s been routed via an iPhone. So we have the same ability to take, answer and transfer calls as we did in the office.

Violetroselily · 24/09/2020 21:29

We use Webex conferencing which has a function to call you, rather than you needing to dial in. Can also dial into it through your laptop although I'm not a huge fan of that.

We also use Skype for business but I rarely use the audio or video function on there, just the instant messaging.

I can also log into our internal phone network to redirect calls from my desk phone to my mobile

Basically, there are too many ways for colleagues to contact me and I don't like it Grin

PontiacBandit · 24/09/2020 21:30

My work extension is diverted to my work mobile, it's a dual SIM so I have both my work and personal numbers on my phone. I can't transfer calls but I don't really need to either. We use teams for conference calls and a group what's app for quick messages that keep everyone in the loop.

Fatted · 24/09/2020 21:30

Public sector. I have no idea how it works, but its web based, so we can use our soft phone when WFH or log into our personal extension from any phone in any building. We've been pushing agile working for about five years and we've had this technology since then.

topcat2014 · 24/09/2020 21:36

We have an ancient panasonic system. Put the calls on hold and shout across the office.

No voicemail / night service / etc.

I think it stems from 1990s.

Our IT is probably too old for Teams (plus MD too tight..)

Teams for internal calls, Skype or company mobile for external calls.

Yes. We have a system installed on our PCs, so we can call any number. We have all kept our direct line numbers, which are all Sheffiled numbers, even though a lot of us don't live in Sheffield.

Our IT department have been on the ball with this situation, and I realise that I am very lucky.

LBOCS2 · 24/09/2020 22:12

We make and receive external calls via Teams. Can do everything we would have done from the office from my laptop, and it shows up as my DDI.

Ginfordinner · 24/09/2020 22:47

Our company discontinued using Skype for Business. We use Teams, and Avaya for the soft phone system.
