I went on a seminar that did the opposite of what it was for and now I feel rubbish

I did one of these little online seminars that was called Improve Your Confidence While Job Hunting or something. I ended up feeling even less confident than ever. We were told to do things like listing your achievements so everyone except me came up with things. I don't think I've achieved anything recently. Then we were all told to do some exercise and that Couch to 5K would change our lives. I have my own personal reasons for not wanting to go running.

I'm not interested in personal development advice here, I'm just annoyed that I wasted a few hours on this seminar.

Please cheer me up with tales of courses that left you none the wiser or did the opposite of what was supposed to happen.

A friend of mine once said she went on a time management course, and left early because she had better things to do with her time.

I went in manual handling course where the trainer wore flip flops and had long floaty dress on.

She was also affected by back pain pills.l and admitted to feeling spaced out.

Sounds like BS but honestly true.

@fluffygreenmonsterhoody

oh fluffy it's ok as long as it wasn't you who called the truck driver's boss to tell them how good his driving was. It wasn't... was it?

I also feel I should say I rather liked the Fish! video. It was the throwing about of pretend fish in a nondescript room in Hounslow afterwards that I found soul destroying.

This is making me want to google the fish course Grin

I have done the Prevent course a couple of times (Cos actually it is quite worth it as a health professional working with families, you hear all sorts) but the funniest bit for me is that I know a lot of actors and one of them in that video is my friend being all earnest as a care professional so I can’t take that bit seriously!

The course sounds crap. I did a pain management course once, that many people dropped out of because they said we all had to begin by accepting that our medical conditions would never improve. This despite the fact that many were misdiagnosed or undiagnosed and have since improved. Fun times.

@RunningWaterfall

Pretty much every diversity & inclusion course that work has arranged hasn’t been accessible to people with certain disabilities...

For some reason they never seem to like that being pointed out!

Yes! And one in recent memory was held in a room that needed a lift to get to. If you wanted to use it though, you had to ask permission to do so from a receptionist (who probably looked at you sideways to check whatever need you had was visible...)

I lost a great deal of faith when my employer was implementing a restructure, including a lot of redundancies, and as a kind gesture signed that dept up for 'Building Resilience' training as part of the plan.
