It may be worth concreting the bases into the ground to resist the storms, but I think it is doable! Smile

YellowEgg · 27/09/2020 20:48

Wouldn't help if you want to be outside when it is super windy though I know, as it has no side protection.

tsmainsqueeze · 27/09/2020 21:02

I am going to try and make the best of it , its the drab ,ice cold with rain days that i hate.
Today i have had a box of vit d delivered hopefully to combat sad ,
I have changed throws and cushion covers to cosy , furry ones and put down a thick shaggy rug and more fairy lights , i am going to stock up on feel good books from charity shops or free kindle ones ,ie darling buds of may types .
Hopefully it will be a mild winter and before we know it spring, and maybe we will have something however small to look forward to.

InTheVelvetDarkness · 27/09/2020 22:56

I’ve got nowhere to concrete the bases in , the back of our full house is decking 😬

I think it would need to be like a wooden built thing , wish my DP was handier Grin

I think there will be a lot of winter gazebos going up this year... unless the garden visits are stopped too in Scotland.

We did used to drive to relatives gardens anyway and chat through windows so I suppose we could go do that.

Dry winters days - fine
Wet windy days - not so fine

I can cope with it all as long as schools remain open.

My house could be as cosy and lovely and strung with A million fairy light but if I have multiple DC off school for another 6 months - aaaahhh, doesn’t matter how nice the house looks like it will feel like a war zone / monkey house / lunatic asylum/ riot ( insert relevant word for absolute fkn nightmare !)

But yes will grin and bear it , get them all wrapped up , hats on and WE WILL GO OUT OUR DAILY WALK. The bickering / poking / moaning / shepherding is SO worth it for the fresh air Hmm

I’m losing it already thinking of this.

Only because DW's Canadian family will play bad weather top trumps and win all the time.

PickAChew · 28/09/2020 00:08

I'm dreading the school situation imploding. Autistic Ds2 has been a hot mess, this weekend, horrendous tics.

1000umbrellas · 28/09/2020 00:32

@InTheVelvetDarkness I believe informal childminding by grandparents etc. is still ok, I looked up the full rules on scot.gov the other day. There are lots of loopholes provisions for particular situations. Eg MIL is moving house and DH was wondering how he was supposed to move all her furniture etc. without going in the house but it specifically says there is an exemption for house moves.

That might make it easier actually; you could just secure it to the back wall/ fence? Mine is too far away. Definitely would help to have someone handy around, I am a single mum so will be doing this myself! 🤣 That may not end well...

Totally agree, cold, crisp days with sunshine will be no issue. It's the grey and rain and wind that make it unbearable and impossible to be outside. Let's hope for a cold, dry winter!

YellowEgg · 28/09/2020 00:57

Also really not wanting my children at home again and trying to juggle that with work. It was hard enough for everyone doing that first time around. If it happens again, with winter on top, it will be a nightmare. I guess we just have to hope that schools stay open and we are allowed a relatively normal Christmas, to get us all through it.

Lardlizard · 28/09/2020 20:10

Some good plans and ideas on here

CornishTiger · 28/09/2020 20:21

Homewise we will battle through. Harder to get shopping and support family.

Work wise. Dreading it. I have no idea how I’ll deliver the services we do face to face outside.

Holothane · 28/09/2020 20:27

I’m having orange themed stuff for autumn I’m already doing shopping for Christmas red stuff for me, a silk pillowcase for Christmas. I’m trying not to think gloomily but it’s hard work dh has sciatica my gyne stuff is playing up again, .

YellowEgg · 28/09/2020 21:23

Also just placed a big order with Pollyfields for Christmas wreaths, pot pourri candle holders etc. Their stuff is beautiful and smells divine.

Lardlizard · 29/09/2020 15:03

Holo what things have you got in orange ?

Lardlizard · 29/09/2020 15:04

Mrs p interesting to hear your story
I like hearing now how people kinda make over their lives

userxx · 29/09/2020 15:20

I am. I'm not much looking forward to autumn either with its slimy leaves, mud and rain.

Finally, someone who I can relate to. All I hear about autumn is crisp mornings, beautiful colours on the trees, snuggling down nice and cosy with hot choc and other puke inducing nonsense.

VenusClapTrap · 29/09/2020 15:49

I hate it. Bulbs are the answer - I have snowdrops coming out in December, crocuses in January then the daffs start with different varieties coming out in succession till March, when the tulips get going. They keep me feeling positive.

KarenSmith1980 · 29/09/2020 16:55

In some aspects yes, but also no

I am dreading the illnesses like cold, flu, fever... which i always get, the coldness and having those dreadful school dropoff's in the rain. but i do love christmas, having the whole family home make's me very happy

Holothane · 29/09/2020 20:40

Don’t laugh but pumpkin lights for the bedroom, a silk pair of knickers in orange, Halloween socks and mask for Halloween.

MrsPworkingmummy · 29/09/2020 21:31

Oooo Pollyfields sounds great. Will take a look now.

user1471538283 · 29/09/2020 21:35

I'm not this year as we are moving and for a little while I will not have a thing to fix or change. It has been a horrible summer and I usually love it. It is going to be a really tough time for alot of people and I think even the ones of us that are still well are just exhausted

Completelyfrozen · 29/09/2020 21:35

I'm dreading the bitter cold, icy streets and roads, but most of all, I'm dreading queueing in the car park of the supermarket freezing cold, breathing out plumes of frosty coloured breath, rubbing my fingers together in a vain attempt to stop them going blue while stamping my feet to stop them going numb as my ears freeze off in a painful haze.

CoronaIsWatching · 29/09/2020 21:42

Not really, I see it that we will be further down the line and closer to a vaccine. It's the final big push in my eyes.

PlanetBong · 30/09/2020 18:27

Pollyfields stuff is gorgeous, definitely recommended! Smile
