Do you think it’s ok, to push a scooter around a shop, not ride it, just walk it along ?

Lardlizard · 23/09/2020 12:12

Or is it a bit rude ?
Just I don’t want to leave it outside Incase it gets nicked, EveN with a lock on
I certainly wouldn’t ride it in a store
But if I pushed it around gently while waking beside it
Would that be ok ?
I mean I suppose you get pram wheels in shops all the time

What do you think
Yes it’s ok
Or no it’s not

@LoveNote

Covid risk in many ways

Bringing an unnecessary item into store, trip hazard on the narrowed down aisles, ridden on then bumping customers and staff and just another problem for stores to deal with!

Remind me to never ever take advice from mumsnet again.

This thread proves you're all absolute lunatics.

Of course it's fine to wheel your scooter around next to you. It's no different to a shopping basket on wheels, or a pram.

The covid risk is a red herring here - a scooter (which isn't a mobility scooter but essentially a bulky toy or a bicycle equivalent vehicle) is a trip hazard and gets in other people's way, and unlike a wheelchair, walking or pram is not necessary to enable an individual to move around the shop! It is inconsiderate to bring it in and sets a precident if the shop staff feel unable to challenge the person who brings it in.

If the scooter can't be secured outside it shouldn't be taken to the supermarket. It'd be difficult to secure a pony or an expensive pure breed dog outside - solution is don't ride your pony or walk your high theft risk dog to the supermarket, it's not to take them inside with you!

What on Earth are you talking about!

stripeyd If you weren't being deliberately obtuse you'd know I was talking about it being inappropriate and inconsiderate to bring something bulky to the supermarket which isn't a mobility aid and which you're unable or unwilling to leave outside. Scooters aren't a special case - just leave it at home if you're going to the shops and won't or can't lock it up outside the same way you would a bike!

I scoot on an adult one and have taken it into Sainsbury's before when I forgot my lock .. I can't see it's a massive issue really ! 🤷‍♀️

Scooters aren't bulky. As long as the op isn't a complete moron it'll be easy to keep it out of other people's way.

The overreaction here is silly.

I often see people in our small supermarkets with scooters, massive double prams, huge backpacks and other things. No one cares.

If everyone is staying their 1m away anyway, how could someone possibly trip over a scooter that's being held right next to the op?

The "I know my rights - I'll do whatever I fancy and sod the inconvenience and risk to everyone else" attitude is so depressing.

One person acting like a selfish dick doesn't matter, but one person doing it gives two more the idea. Prams and wheelchairs and walking aids need to be allowed in, but when everyone thinks that makes it ok to wheel some random big toy or vehicle in there's a problem. Everyone thinks they're the special exception who's wishes trump everyone else. It applies to a lot of things raised on MN.

It’s just a fucking scooter.
Fold it up and either carry it or put it in the trolley. If you really wanted to avoid judgemental mumsnet frowns give the wheels a quick spray of the D10 spray before you enter the store.

Just take it in and if staff approach you and tell you off, then dont take it in again.

I wouldn't randomly take a scooter into a shop just because I saw someone else do it!

That's silly.

I don't even own a scooter

Is no one else worried about these people who can't see properly wearing a facemask?

Yes I know your glasses can get steamed up but honestly we've been wearing them long enough to know that you tuck them under the bottom of your glasses and jobs a good 'un

I've pondered this about bikes before when I've forgotten my lock. It's wheels are no muckier than a buggy. In the end I decided all the humans frowning would be too annoying so I went home without the shopping I went for.

stripeyd You might not but plenty of people do. We have an issue with people bringing bikes in; if one person sneaks past then you get several other people all going “oh can I?” “Look at him, he’s done it”.

It quickly escalates if you don’t manage to nip it in the bud.

Most adult scooters have one spoked wheel expressly for the purpose of being able to lock it to a bike shelter.

I certainly wouldn't wheel it round the shop, the same as I wouldn't wheel a bike round a shop. But folding and putting into a trolley ... whilst I don't like it, I don't see it as different to children riding in the trolley or even personal shopping trolleys.

It’s part of the governments four point Covid safety advice:
Keep your space
Wash your hands
Cover your face
Lock all scooters in airtight underground bunkers

I spend 0% of my time in supermarkets looking at others Tbh, I wouldn't even register someone carrying or wheeling a scooter, or putting it in a trolley? It's fuckin none of my business what others are doing and some people on Mumsnet need to realise that.

Also why is visibility reduced when wearing a facemask??

I actually can't believe the amount of thought put into what to do with a scooter while shopping. Just bung it in the trolley folded or otherwise.

I put DC's by the security desk. Never had one taken even if there is no security there and it's a high theft area. If you attached it by the wheel with a lock someone would simply remove the locked wheel and take the rest of the scooter. The city is awash with single bike wheels attached to railings. Covid risk - heard it all now! 😆

Scooters are really annoying. Anywhere.

Thinks about the numbers of times I've had to dodge a child on a scooter out of control and no acknowledgement from parent - not even sorry
