Do you think it’s ok, to push a scooter around a shop, not ride it, just walk it along ?

Lardlizard · 23/09/2020 12:12

Or is it a bit rude ?
Just I don’t want to leave it outside Incase it gets nicked, EveN with a lock on
I certainly wouldn’t ride it in a store
But if I pushed it around gently while waking beside it
Would that be ok ?
I mean I suppose you get pram wheels in shops all the time

What do you think
Yes it’s ok
Or no it’s not

Some twat was pushing his e-scooter around our local Tesco yesterday.

Moaned because he couldn't get down an aisle which had a column in the middle.

You know the sort of scooter..that is illegal to use anywhere other than private land. Bet he didn't walk it to the store. Probably pavements but that's another thread.

BigRedBoat · 23/09/2020 14:58

Covid can spread faster on wheels than if it was just walking around don't you know Grin

justasking111 · 23/09/2020 15:01

Covid scooter heard it all now I needed that laugh. If the store do not mind why not. I would think with an inexpert steerer it could be a trip hazard.

Bikingbear · 23/09/2020 15:25

Why wouldn't you lob it in the trolley and push the trolley?

Don't see how it's a covid or any other virus risk. Surely people know trolleys aren't exactly sterile, kids sit in them, they are left out in all weathers, and only the handles are cleaned in covid times. Confused

CloudSingsAloud · 23/09/2020 15:29

Not allowed in the shops near us, they have to be left by the tills.

LunaLoveFood · 23/09/2020 15:32

Can you fold it and carry it? Ours have carry straps so we can put them over your shoulder.

Bargebill19 · 23/09/2020 15:40

Lovely- something else for those with poor sight to trip over.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/09/2020 15:41

Definitely. It makes it breathe harder than a panting jogger. Grin

Folding and putting in a trolley is probably the best bet.

WorryWartOne · 23/09/2020 15:52

What type of scooter are you taking about OP? Do you mean a plastic or metal frame with wheels that is manually pushed, ie like a kid’s scooter? Or do you mean an electric one? Or a moped, ie like a Lambretta?

Legoandloldolls · 23/09/2020 15:54

Well, I cant see why a sensible adult cant push a scooter around the shop. However I dont think it would be allowed.

So..... if one more item increase your covid risk, does that mean more layers of clothes, more covid? More bags more covid? More hair more covid? The bigger you are, the more surface area, the more covid?

Someone needs to inform Chris Witty asap as this never came up in my biology degree.

Only thin bald people wearing top, bottoms and shoes can be trusted going forward.

I personally would rather take my chances liking one person's scooter than licking a touch screen in a shop. But that's based on my degree. Which in today's world where nothing is based in fact or research is rather pointless I fear.

My car is around 100 times bigger than a scooter, more wheels, travels further. 100 x more covid. Bus about 1000 times? I think we have a new transmission vectors 🤯Hmm

purplecorkheart · 23/09/2020 15:55

A kids scooter or a mobility scooter. I could see a child's scooter being a trip hazard by someone not paying attention. I would have no issue with a mobility scooter.

Changethetoner · 23/09/2020 15:58

I don't think you'd be able to scoot home and carry very much shopping as well. Maybe with a rucksack on your back? It doesn't seem very practical, so probably best just to leave it at home, and do a shopping trip later. Or is this your mode of transport?

Standrewsschool · 23/09/2020 16:15

Pushing or carrying a kids scooter would be fine.

A kid scooting on a scooter as I saw in a shop last week, not fine. (Next in Milton Keynes).

Lardlizard · 23/09/2020 16:56

Perhaps it can wear a face mask ! 🤣
It’s just a normal metal frame rubber tyre scooter
It’s not a moped !

I thought if I put it in a trolley, it can because you can fold it in half
It would perhaps get the trolley dirty

It will get the trolly dirty - just like the kids that are allowed to stand or sit inside the trolly and not in the toddler seat. Lovely when they’ve trodden in dog poo. (Not the toddlers fault but still don’t spread it around others food)
Please don’t do it.

Tinkywinkydinkydoo · 23/09/2020 17:53

You wouldn’t be allowed to bring it in in any of the supermarkets by where I live, nothing with wheels. I wouldn’t want the embarrassment of being told by staff to take it outside.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/09/2020 18:15

Why are scooters (non mobility scooters) special in some people's opinion? Why not use a bike lock to lock the scooter up outside in the same way as a push bike?

It will be in the way and a trip hazard, and as soon as the shop lets one person in with a scooter more people will think "oh that's allowed, I'll stop bothering locking mine up outside and bring it in too".

Would people saying it's fine also wheel a push bike into a supermarkt? After all that also might get stolen, and loading straight into the bike basket saves time and avoids using a bag...

emilyfrost · 23/09/2020 18:40

No, it’s not okay. You either leave it locked up outside or leave it at home whilst shopping.

Bikingbear · 23/09/2020 19:11

Trolleys aren't exactly the cleanest things in the world anyway, plants, soap powder and stuff that leaks often end up in them. Not to mention kids, sometimes it's easier when they outgrow the baby seat but are still small and aren't that great at staying beside you. Other than the rain they are never washed. And they might get the occasional poop by a passing bird.

Nobody puts unwrapped food in the trolley for a reason. All food stuff is already wrapped and even loose veg is likely to be bagged before going in the trolley and washed / peeled before eaten.

Honestly I wouldn't think twice about putting it in the trolley.

Bikingbear · 23/09/2020 19:15

Why not use a bike lock to lock the scooter up outside in the same way as a push bike?

A bike you can put the chain through the frame and through the back wheel making it difficult to steal. Not so easy to securely attach a scooter to a bike rack you can't actually get the chain though it.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/09/2020 06:12

If the scooter can't be secured outside it shouldn't be taken to the supermarket. It'd be difficult to secure a pony or an expensive pure breed dog outside - solution is don't ride your pony or walk your high theft risk dog to the supermarket, it's not to take them inside with you!

pinkbalconyrailing · 24/09/2020 06:27

fold it and put it on the crate rack at the bottom of the shopping trolley?

pastandpresent · 24/09/2020 06:39

If I knew we are working to the town and going into the shop, I always discouraged my child to take scooter with him. If he insisted, I told him he needs to leave it outside. I knew I can't hold onto the basket and carry the scooter, and dc won't be able to push nicely along without getting in other people's way.
When dc was old enough, I asked him to wait outside if he ride the scooter to the town. But if he wanted to go into the shops, he can't take scooter with him, or needs to be left outside, which he definitely didn't want to do.

Suzi888 · 24/09/2020 06:43

Is the covid risk because propel might touch it or cough on it Confused genuinely confused... what about prams.
Ring the store and ask? better than someone coming up to you and saying “you can’t bring that in here”.
