Wash

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 23/09/2020 22:48

I don't but it's never smelled odd.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2020 22:52

I've always just opened the packet and flung it on the bed. Until I bought some new bedding from IKEA and it smelled awful, so chemically. I see another poster above said the same about IKEA stuff. The smell was so bad it gave me a headache.

Is this a thing? Wow. Mumsnet makes me feel like a right scutter

DappledThings · 23/09/2020 22:59

I'm just thinking about the multiple times I've had guests and deliberately saved the new bedding for them. Straight out of the packet and onto the bed because I think that feeling of brand new bedding makes it a bit special.

Hope none of them have been offended! Grin

SheeshazAZ09 · 23/09/2020 23:01

Always, to get rid of chemical smells.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/09/2020 23:02

Yes, right after I've slept in it for a few days! Life's too short to wash clean things

LeaveMyDamnJam · 23/09/2020 23:05

Always. Fabric is strayed with fungicide, insecticide etc to stop it going mouldy or being eaten in transit.

I wash all new bedding/clothing before use.

Fozzleyplum · 23/09/2020 23:07

No – I think it's a waste of time. I've never noticed the chemical smell that some posters have mentioned. I buy only pure cotton bedlinen, so that might have something to do with it.

Divebar · 23/09/2020 23:11

Yeah. Where are you buying your bedding from? First world problems and all that

Notfeelinggreattoday · 23/09/2020 23:16

No never realised it was a thing to wash new things until recently on here

DustyLoafer · 23/09/2020 23:18

No. I love the crunchy newness.

And I've never had stinky bedding (Dunelm, The Range, Bedeck).

AdoraBell · 23/09/2020 23:20

Yes.

flourbroach · 23/09/2020 23:22

The only things I tend to wash before first use are tea towels, because they don't dry things very well when new. And they're small, and they don't need ironing.

Msfoxy17 · 23/09/2020 23:23

Never even considered it. Same with clothes!

DustyLoafer · 23/09/2020 23:31

I do wash towels though as the water just drips off them when they are new.

clipclop5 · 23/09/2020 23:38

Yes - always wash new clothes as well. Hate the chemically smells

I bought some 100% cotton bedding recently and it absolutely stank. It's from M&S. Admittedly the last time I'd bought any bedding was quite a long time ago, but the "new clothes" problem has got worse and worse recently. It's horrendous, some of the stuff they cover your new clothes and sheets in.

“ I buy only pure cotton bedlinen, so that might have something to do with it”

Hahahahaha

Pipandmum · 24/09/2020 06:15

No

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2020 06:16

No, never have.

But the point is, it's NOT clean!

It's full of manufacturing chemicals & Christ knows what else 🤮

@Lardlizard yes, there are loads of chemicals used in the manufacturing & packaging, it's really not a good idea to have them on your bare skin.

I don't know anyone who irons bedding though.

So people say. But I've never noticed any smell from new clothes or bedding, nor have I ever had any kind of skin reaction so I'm not swayed to the idea of washing new stuff. Seems clean to me!

I do!

Alfiemoon1 · 24/09/2020 07:33

Yes it smells nicer and feels softer
