No Flu Vaccinations available for the under 65's anywhere

Just that really, trying to get vaccinations for DD's, DH and myself, but we don't qualify. A nagging, and I know in my heart, probably unreasonable, little voice, is wondering whether it would not be better to vaccinate the working population in order to keep things going. What happens if we all go down with Covid plus Flu....... unlikely but......

I got one done yesterday (under 65) and my local independent pharmacy, just turned up no booking required

There's no rush, flu season doesn't start in September.

We start seeing cases in October and it takes two weeks to develop immunity after the vaccination. There's no benefit to waiting either.

We had ours - DH(53) me (55) and DS (15) this last weekend. We have them every year and have done for about 10 years now (since I got really ill with Swine flu in 2009)

DH is super organised and books early every year but this year he booked us in with the local pharmacy for the Saturday after the vaccine was delivered (on Friday). I joked with him that it would have worn off before the peak season but went with it anyway. I am glad now as the pharmacist told us that there were some supply problems and that she thought there would be shortages of it later on.

@Tfoot75

Why all the panic? It's makes total sense that if loads of people are buying the flu vaccine privately that don't normally buy it, demand is going to be higher than supply. I have asthma and don't usually get invited by GP til November ish - last year I didn't end up having it til january. There's no rush, flu season doesn't start in September.

I don't get it, you're at no more risk of getting flu than in a normal year, possibly much less. The flu vaccine doesn't protect you against covid? The only reason why the NHS are being a lot more proactive is to avoid having a double epidemic of both flu and covid over winter - nothing to do with individual risk?

Core flu season is usually December to March but the flu vaccine takes at least a couple of weeks after being adminsiterd to be effective so getting it by the beginning of November is a good idea. Also flu season can start earlier or go on a bit later.
I think you might be right though about there likely being less flu this year because of Covid and the associated measures.

In fact the Southern Hemisphere has had an incredibly light flu season this year www.advisory.com/daily-briefing/2020/07/24/coronavirus-restrictions

Some of these did have a high intake of the flu vaccination this year so some could be due to that. Hard to say the reasons really but it is good news for the northern hemisphere as we go into our winter.

@ftmnov different drug. 2 yr olds have nasal spray

I booked one today (admittedly I do get a free one but often do it at the pharmacy so I don’t have to deal with the scrum at the GP flu clinic). It’s possible (rightly so) that pharmacies are prioritising higher risk people. I know the surgery receptionist said we would get notified as they worked down the list of who was eligible and most in need. But I had no problem at the pharmacy. They had appointments all day every day this week.
