How can you post your face on a thread and then have 'privacy concerns'?

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2020 15:32

Yes, this is a blatant TAAT.
The 'how old do you think I am' thread was deleted for the above reason.
Why let it stand in the first place then?
Just don't allow identifying pictures FFS. Not to mention obvious let's boost my ego ones.
I know this will be taken down, but not before MNHQ have a think about the logic behind their ridiculous deletion message, I hope.
Either let people post their faces but then refuse a deletion for privacy purposes, or don't let them do it in the first place.
You can't have it both ways, MN (or shouldn't), and neither should posters.....

Sorry, mine. Just got very excited by your bottom for a moment

Port1aCastis · 20/09/2020 17:59

Well if one only puts one's or someone else's mugshot (latest or years ago) on here for ego boosting then one or someone else is asking for a roasting

Witchend · 20/09/2020 18:01

@mineofuselessinformation

But surely your face is your most identifying feature? I'm pretty sure that if I posted a picture of my arse, no-one would recognise me.
Please try that under the question of "How old do I look?" Grin
giantangryrooster · 20/09/2020 18:02

I think it would be a good idea for MN to have in their guidelines that this is a no go.

Posters who do this are
Too self-absorbed, fishing for praise
Get arsy destructive comments
Pictures of someone who doesn't know in order to harrass them
Posters do it to self-harm

Same with the 'is my nose too big' etc.

That said there was a fun thread about this the other day, so spot on.

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2020 18:03

@Witchend I'm sorely tempted, but think I would offend so many people I'd be banned - and I quite like it here! Grin

OP posts:
DaughterX · 20/09/2020 18:05

Why do most people in this thread assume it was a picture of the OP?

VettiyaIruken · 20/09/2020 18:19

DaughterX - Which posts read to you like they think the op posted the picture?

VettiyaIruken · 20/09/2020 18:21

Or do you mean why do posters assume the photo of the op on the thread referred to where that op said it was her picture and asked how old she looked?

Port1aCastis · 20/09/2020 18:27

I totally agree with OP why post your mugshot and then complain about your privacy, it doesn't make sense as if you want to remain anonymous don't post your face
Most odd!

Rollergirl11 · 20/09/2020 18:33

Why do I get the feeling that the people that object to those threads are the same people objecting when they’re taken down? Some people are never happy.

DaughterX · 20/09/2020 18:47

@VettiyaIruken

Or do you mean why do posters assume the photo of the op on the thread referred to where that op said it was her picture and asked how old she looked?
Yes this. Someone posts a picture of a woman, says "this is me" and everyone seems to think it's automatically true!?
TheSeedsOfADream · 20/09/2020 18:53

Is this the 46 year old? That the first 10 posts said "about 46" and she said "well that's what I think but everyone says I look 8"
She was very pretty and had fab skin. She looked good for 46. But I do agree it's a ridiculous and self-absorbed thing to do.

I look 246 most times.

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2020 19:18

@Rollergirl11, I'm bemused by them, I don't object to them. 🤷🏻‍♀️
What I do object to is posters getting their threads pulled because they don't like the answers.
I've been here long enough to know this didn't use to happen - OPs either had to suck it up, or hide the thread. 30 days only didn't exist then either.
I think it made people think a bit more before target started a thread.
Hiding behind the 'privacy' excuse isn't really in the spirit of posting threads like that in the first place is it? Ask a question, get an honest answer.
I've been flamed before and took it in the chin.

How did I miss this thread? Did someone actually post their pic? Did she look much older than she thought? I need details please 🤣

MashedSweetSpud · 20/09/2020 19:39

I think her friend convinced her she did actually look 31 (she said she last saw him 15 years ago) and to “settle an argument” (strike through show off) she posted here.

Her neck said early 50’s to me but I never mentioned that and I did say she looked great. I’m always honest with those threads and it annoys when people gush that they look 29 when they clearly look older.

BilboBercow · 20/09/2020 19:42

She looked like a woman in her late 40s and wasn't happy when people told her she looked like a woman in her late 40s

ShandlersWig · 20/09/2020 19:45

I saw that thread and she looked great. For her age. I think she thought she would come across as younger. And was a bit Confused when people guessed correctly or older.

TheSultanofPingu · 20/09/2020 19:50

It probably was a bad idea for her to post a photo, but it doesn't affect anyone's life that she decided to ask for it to be deleted. I bet she'll think twice next time.

Rollergirl11 · 20/09/2020 19:51

I saw the thread and at no point did it come across to me that the OP was unhappy with the responses she got. But of course that’s not as interesting as her throwing her toys out of her Oran. And it certainly doesn’t warrant another thread being started about it. Isn’t that a bit of a no-no too? But the OP still went ahead and started one anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rollergirl11 · 20/09/2020 19:53

pram*

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2020 20:47

Yes, I did, @Rollergirl11, because I really don't agree with the 'oh well, I didn't get what I came for, so I'll use an excuse to get it deleted' motive.
For the hard of reading, I made that clear in my OP, and elaborated on it in a later post.
I also made it clear that this is a TAAT (and what I fully expected to happen - I haven't had a slap on the wrist and been deleted yet) but I think it's a valid discussion point.

OP posts:
BalloonSlayer · 20/09/2020 20:48

Those threads are always horrible.

Someone who looks a good ten years younger than me posts and people say she looks ten years older than me. It's just spite, trying to bring someone down a peg or two for daring to hope they look younger than they do (and everyone who buys anti wrinkle cream does it in the hope that they may end up looking younger it's a perfectly normal hope to have).

Similar are the threads when someone posts, say, that their just turned 3 year old is reading their 7 year old sibling's Biff and Chip books from school. Cue 50 replies about how that's not advanced at all - their DC had finished all the Harry Potters by that age. Hmm I feel so sorry for the poor poster who is just proud of their lovely clever DC and just want to share their joy and have someone say "Wow!" but people just have to piss on their chips.

trixiebelden77 · 20/09/2020 20:53

The pretty but very wrinkled chick? Who thought she looked 30 but feigned relief when everyone picked as her late forties/early fifties?

Didn’t know she’d deleted. Hahahahaha. ‘Privacy’ my arse.

I guess everyone’s allowed to regret their post.

userxx · 20/09/2020 22:03

She wasn't very wrinkled. No idea why people do it 🤷‍♂️
