I can't believe people are saying garden furniture. Plastic garden furniture is very cheap, so cheap I even have it inside. Of course if you want the nicer stuff, that will be more expensive, but it's not expensive in itself.

@GnomeDePlume I've found it varies depending on the product - so B&Q wood paint is actually very good (and valspar crap) but their emulsion for walls is terrible. Plus valspar has about a million colours!

@WaffleCash pretty big - three storey (3 level roof) Victorian terrace. Like for like replacement in slate with reclaimed Ridge tiles... It was the original roof so no wonder it leaked - just hope this one also lasts 120 years and then the next roof will be someone else's problem!
@Dailyhandtowelwash I hope your Christmas guest brings you lots of fabulous presents, at least.
I wish! But they do make an effort with the kids.

Bodywork repairs on cars. Even scratches seem to cost hundreds.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/09/2020 18:30

@Dailyhandtowelwash

What, not even a foot spa?

IndieTara · 20/09/2020 18:42

Yes to mattresses. Hugely expensive for something decent that will actually help my back, hip and neck

Snog · 20/09/2020 19:06

@sm40 so sorry for your loss Thanks

sm40 · 20/09/2020 19:44

@Snog thank you!

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet

The prices on air bnb are ridiculous and extortionate.

I nearly dropped dead

eatsleepread · 21/09/2020 05:24

Tradesmen.

lhmua12 · 21/09/2020 05:27

Front doors!

@The80sweregreat

Anything legal is eye watering. If you have the brains and the will power study law! Less stressful than medicine and all win win ( mostly) is my take on that profession. ( wished I could have done but god didn't give me the brain power) Smile
I am a lawyer but I still need to pay one to do anything outside of my area of specialism I'm qualified in! My personal affairs tend not to be covered by my specialist corporate law area so I've still had to pay conveyancers, property lawyers, probate, contract lawyers, immigration lawyers, will writers, employment lawyers in my time! I haven't got a clue what they do!

Have thoroughly stalked you, all I can say is you are brilliant to have worked out it was me, but your memory is very slightly out. Think naffer.
hopelessbusiness · 21/09/2020 16:46

It's been said already but water rates - best part of £90 a month for a terraced house with 3 people.....grrrrrr 😡

VerbenaGirl · 21/09/2020 17:36

Tyres.

Joeblack066 · 21/09/2020 17:41

@Mintjulia

Kitchens. A stack of mdf should not cost that much.

And council tax - £2200pa to have a bin emptied twice a month, clear the drains twice a year and provide a library Hmm

Have you ever read your Council Tax bill to see what it covers?
JulesCobb · 21/09/2020 17:45

Grin well done
AiryFairyMum · 21/09/2020 17:51

Yes to vets' bills, and kitchen bins. Front doors too.

Carol44 · 21/09/2020 18:05

When my son had to start buying his own food at University it was;

Cheese

I was saving a small fortune

DartmoorDoughnut · 21/09/2020 18:08

Windows. We’re sticking with single glazing, would cost a third of the house value to change them.
