Drugs/substance that stains mouth and lips

We have a suspicion that our son is using drugs. A couple of times over the last few weeks he's come home barely able to stand and out of it and his have been blue.

Does anyone know what this could be?

He could be telling the truth that it’s chewing gum but that doesn’t mean he can’t also be taking drugs. When I used to take MDMA/ ecstasy I would always chew gum at the same time as it made me gurn and chew the inside of my mouth and end up with ulcers otherwise.

Red wine does this to my lips. No really mainstream drugs that I can think of though.

You can fly through chewing gum when using speed, coke or ecstasy.

Read the linked article, folks. Fake valium dyed blue turns lips & tongues blue. There's even a photo

user1471565182 · 13/09/2020 22:01

Ive seen the valium thing myself but its a very light blue and very small amounts.

user1471565182 · 13/09/2020 22:02

As well as valium being ridiculously cheap

We did a test last night. All the sections were strongly negative. Cannabis did have a pale second line which the test instructions say is still negative. We had a really good talk with him (and apologised for accusing him of drug taking). He's admitted his so called friends have been taking money off him and he's been buying several bottles of spirits for them all to drink a week. He's had a horrible weekend with us on his back and his girlfriend has dumped him because of his friends. We're hoping that he'll be able to cut ties with them.

Thanks for all your input everyone.

That's good news OP. Just hope he ditches the 'friends'.

The photo in the article shows a blue tongue, not blue lips. I struggle to understand how they could dye lips. Fair enough the tongue if held there long enough but most tablets don't even touch peoples lips.

Could it be red wine? Especially the cheap stuff can stain your mouth dark blue-ish!

lovelilies · 14/09/2020 09:22

It's the fake street diazepam that turns the mouth and lips blue

GirlCalledJames · 14/09/2020 09:29

Where I live the methadone addicts always leave the clinic with blue lips.

Alwaysinpain · 14/09/2020 14:38

Drugs leave your system within 12-24 hours OP. Also, I would not rely on just one test. How do you know it's accurate? You should do at least 3 and WITHIN 12 hours of him arriving home.

Depends on the drug. If indeed it is diazepam this has quite a long half life and can be detected in urine a good week to 10 days after use.

My daughters nursery rang me at home once. She had blue lips and tongue. She had powerade at her grandparents before going in.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 14/09/2020 15:14

Slightly irrelevant but I once met a famous ‘edgy’ rock star. He was off his tits and had blue lips (stained a dark blue). I always wondered what he was on that night - he was definitely really high.

user1471565182 · 15/09/2020 00:31

Some amount of nonsense on here. Its extremely rare for drugs to leave the system in 12 hours, its usually 3 days, except cannabis which lingers for weeks. Methadone doesnt turn your lips blue. If people are walking around with blue lips from a lack of oxygen they need to ring an ambulance. Do people just want him to be using drugs so they get a dramatic story?

pinkcheesecake · 15/09/2020 01:32

Oh @Lookingforhelpplease 17 years old is so young. So many young people are falling into this trap. He might not have taken any substances but who is to say his friends don't? You sound like a very knowledgable concerned parent but please watch him like a hawk and definitely get rid of his friends as this always starts with friends unfortunately. His friends sound like trouble since his gf has dumped him because of them and also taking money off him. Drug users (so called friends sometimes) love to target those who are earning money so they could pull them into the trap to get a commission once they turn the victim into a regular. Good luck and I hope he is filled in with so much knowledge and real life case studies on how drugs could ruin someone's life.

Lookingforhelpplease · 15/09/2020 08:32

pinkcheesecake thank you.

Blue raspberry slush puppies used to do this to me!

Agree with PP about pills not staining your lips. How would they?! Maybe tongue if you suck them but pills tend to be swallowed whole. Sounds more like a drink
