Drugs/substance that stains mouth and lips

We have a suspicion that our son is using drugs. A couple of times over the last few weeks he's come home barely able to stand and out of it and his have been blue.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Ah, I thought he was a young teen. That's what made blue WKD spring to mind. No, if he's adult it's definitely something more suspicious. Unfortunately, unless he wants help there's not a great deal you can do about it.

Hopefully it's nothing too dangerous and he doesn't have a bad reaction. If it's any consolation most of my social group did drugs in our twenties and we're all sober, responsible adults now.

Keratinsmooth · 12/09/2020 16:55

In your shoes I would calmly direct him to the new story about the blue valium

Gilead · 12/09/2020 17:00

Dd was taking the blue Valium a while back. It stained her lips.

Lookingforhelpplease · 12/09/2020 17:02

Frequency he's 17 but working full time instead of 6th form college.

Gilead how did you handle it?

What kind of job does he do? Maybe warning him re: random drugs tests and how being sacked for failing a drugs test would impact his future might make him think twice.

Lookingforhelpplease · 12/09/2020 17:10

They used to do random drugs tests before Covid. I will definitely mention that to him as he'd be sacked on the spot if he failed a test.

Huffing blue spray paint?

Nospringchickendipper · 12/09/2020 17:20

I think it’s Valium.

RB68 · 12/09/2020 17:33

next time he comes in like that just call an ambulance - it sounds dangerous and you don't know what could be happening and they will know what it is or find out then there is no denying it

Lookingforhelpplease · 12/09/2020 18:19

I've just ordered a testing kit on Amazon. Delivery tomorrow.

IDontLikeZombies · 12/09/2020 18:55

I think valium as well

IDontLikeZombies · 12/09/2020 18:57

The 10mg pills are blue

Sorry are you trying to imply that drugs are....ok.....???? ShockShockShock
Frequency · 12/09/2020 19:19

Um, no? Confused

Where did I say it was all ok? Why do posters on MN insist on reading things that are not there? I was pointing out that not all young people who experiment with drugs end up as crack addicts with no future. In fact, the vast majority don't. That doesn't mean it's a not dangerous thing to do.

Anyhoo, OP, a test is a good idea. Hopefully it will get you some answers and you can have a calm chat about the dangers. Although, short of stopping him accessing his own money or locking him in the house, if he's determined to take drugs he won't listen. Any 17yo knows the dangers. They just think it won't happen to them. Certainly, that was the case for me and my friends. MDMA was the thing back then and we all knew about poor Leah Betts. I remember talking about how to make it less dangerous i.e drinking sensible amounts of water during the night to avoid dehydration or water intoxication and not mixing substances. I can't really think of anything that would have stopped me, other than a threat to my income. I grew out of it by my mid to late twenties and now realise I was just a bit of twat.

madcow88 · 12/09/2020 19:38

Defiantly gas of some kind. Nitrous oxide maybe but that wears off within seconds but sniffing gas can last longer. Both very dangerous!!

MC68 · 12/09/2020 19:48

A form of oxycodone

Crinkle77 · 12/09/2020 20:56

Err no don't call an ambulance unless there's an actual.emergency.
Zippy1510 · 12/09/2020 20:57

Blue Valium will not stain your lips dark blue

MrsMariaReynolds · 12/09/2020 22:10

I would say nitrous oxide, or huffing some other aerosol. Spray paint, maybe?

LUZON · 13/09/2020 10:07

Are you going to manage to get him
To take the drug test?
Hope it sorts itself out.

MinnieJackson · 13/09/2020 10:18

I'm prescribed 10mg diazepam tablets and they are very very pale blue and I've never had a stained mouth. Vodka slush puppies? That sourz shite? A combination of blue alcohol and some sort of drug maybe?

Doyoumind · 13/09/2020 10:23

I don't see how anything but a drink would actually stain your lips. No kind of drug is going to be in your mouth long enough to stain it. That doesn't mean a drug isn't causing the behaviour you're seeing.

Chungking2046 · 13/09/2020 10:58

Some opiates like oxycontin now contain a blue gel, could be that.
